For those who have interviewed and already secured acceptances, how did you prepare for your interviews? Is there anything in particular you did that you feel really made the difference for you?

Starting to get really nervous about my upcoming interviews!!

I actually had an AWFUL interview at the school where I got accepted (cried for a good 20 minutes after because I felt lousy about it). Evidently that didn't matter. On the other hand, I've had interviews where I've felt super confident about where I've then not been accepted (or even waitlisted). I'm a nervous interviewer, so I'm never quite sure what to do. Just go in, know your stuff, be excited about life (but not too excited), and have fun with it. Having a pre-interview pump up song helps as well (I've been listening to "Be a Man" from Mulan before!).

  2. Will people stop causing drama on my thread! This is a place to discuss the current application cycle, not to air your personal grievances about the mods. @byn /@unbelievable I'm sorry that you're having trouble with the mods, but this is not the time or place. Please make another thread and refrain from derailing this one.

It's very annoying that it's gotten so off topic when this is supposed to be a place for people to ask questions.

Haven't you had most of the programs you applied to interview you?!

It all comes down to how you feel you did at the interviews.. Are you feeling less confident than you'd hope to post-interview for some of these programs? I have a feeling this is your year.

It's always hard to tell how I did with interviews. I've had interviews where I've felt awesome after only to be rejected.

Looks like you're having a great cycle thus far. I definitely get it though. This entire process is just one big stress explosion/implosion cycle.

I know. It just feels so high stakes since this will probably be the last time that I'll be able to apply, and I want to finally be successful.

Right and I'm too scared to check a bag because this WOULD be the time that it gets lost.

I'm become a master at the 1-litre bag...I only just managed to fit all my liquids in on the last trip, hoping I can replicate it tomorrow.

Oh just thought of something I am growing concerned about. My ladies (and dudes!) with long hair, what did you do with yours for interview? I want to wear it down and curly but am worried that I may be messing with it too much throughout the day. Do you guys think wearing it up is more professional? Thoughts?

Mine is long and curly and I wore mine down in Alabama (and then tied it up for lunch and forgot about it).

  7. I worry about two things with this administration:

    1) international student visas: I didn't work over 5 years to get to this goal only to have some cheeto who's never had to work hard toward anything in his life destroy my dreams when he changes the rules about international student visas

    2) my clinical/research work: I plan to work with/conduct research with offenders with mental illness. With Trump being elected, I can see a dual "tough on crime"/defunding of the CJS happening at the same time, and it worries me.

    Hey everyone,

I was wondering if some of you could share the places that you've applied and in an order of preference. I think it would be useful for everyone to get a sense throughout the process what are the chances that they may get accepted off of a waiting list!

My top choices are SFU, Saskatchewan, and New Brunswick, and I've also applied to UBC Okanagan and Ryerson.

at least one school in downtown toronto has sent out all invitations for interviews.  some might even call it a "visiting day".  the competition was beyond insane this year.  # of applications between 200-400.  i've received word from 2/3 schools that i didn't get in. waiting on one more school.  second time around applying (last year only applied to one school though).

    Ryerson?

Hi! I have heard back from a few schools but am waiting on Emory and Auburn. Does anyone happen to know whether all interview invitations have been sent out for these schools? Thanks!

I heard that the interview day for Emory for February 10, so I would assume that all interview invitations have been extended.

Does anyone have any information or insight on the interview process at Saskatchewan? Thank you in advance!

When I did an interview with them 4 years ago, I interviewed on the phone for around an hour with a member of faculty who was not my POI. This was near the beginning of February. It was a very relaxed interview.

Does anyone know if Alabama (Tuscaloosa) is providing any type of reimbursement? The flights for the weekend I'm going are crazy

Nobody mentioned anything to me about reimbursement, just transportation and accomodations. I'm lucky my flight was rather cheap considering I'm going next week (and flying internationally).
