  1. I am now morally and ethically opposed to snail mail #SSHRC

  2. Super big important meeting with superstar academic today. Wish me luck!

  3. That moment when you see your professor's 30 page CV and want to cry.

  4. I love critical and lit theory but 200 pages of theory a week (plus readings for two other classes) has me a bit spooked... :o

  5. Registered for courses, ordered books, made schedule: freakout begins!

I have--I'm taking required intro (boo, too), a seminar on medieval literary thought, a history seminar that's a broad overview of recent medieval historiography, and auditing a comp lit seminar on desire in medieval Latin lit!

I'm freaking out a little this semester as well. I didn't take more than six hours my first year of grad school now I've signed up for nine hours; group counseling, clinical mental health, counseling children and adults. Freaking out can I really handle this load and still be a good wife and mom.

@unraed ooooh medieval desire! chain mail and roses all that good stuff :P

@threeboysmom yikes! sounds like you'll have to do some hardcore efficiency and time planning before the semester starts. i'm sure you'll rock it!

  6. Am having the most difficult time finishing this MA thesis....

      Thank you!!! :)

Writing 18 pages in three days has my head spinning but... yes, almost there!

  7. So humbled by the good news and good luck from today. Two acceptances!

      Yay! Congratulations!

  8. Honestly don't know how I'm going to survive up to and past April 15 if I don't get a call between now and then.

  9. So exhausted. I just want to KNOW! Very envious of all who have accepted and finalized their schools for Fall.

  10. I feel like Jim Carrey in Liar, Liar trying not to pester people about wait list matters.

  11. So close I can taste it.

Manifest your destiny. Keep thinking those positive thoughts!

  12. This has actually been the longest month of my life.

You're telling me. And it's not over yet. Dun dun dun.

Agree. How ironic is that given that February is, in reality, the shortest month on the calendar? Hang in there. It will be over soon. Good luck.

This has been the longest week of my life. I think next week may be longer.

  13. Had the most vivid dream that my online app for UCI changed to accepted. Sigh...

  14. Well, I got the one acceptance I was asking for but I probably can't go because their funding is too tight :( ... Fate is cruel!

Might make sense for a science degree, quantum... not so much for a humanities degree ;)

Ack! Hope it works out for both of us smg. It's still pretty early during notification season... departmental matters and budgets may shift by April, perhaps?

  15. Please Academia, just one acceptance. That's all I ask in order to continue my work.

Dont give up yet. It just takes one. Stay Positive.

  16. With more results coming out, things are starting to go a bit grey now... making this last semester of MA seem much more futile/pointless.

Hang in there, my friend. I can definitely empathize, however. It's hard to focus on schoolwork when your potential career as an academic hangs in the balance.

  17. It's really hard to not start planning for a future that may not be in your grasp yet.

I'm sure it's no consolation, but you're definitely not alone in that. All I can think about is the things I would do differently.

@kurayamino Thanks! In a perfect world, we'd all get at least one, eh?

@unræd I appreciate the vote of confidence! I guess I just really had my heart set on USC and it's been a tough first blow to take. You're right.. it is early, let's hope the rest of the season goes better.

  23. Didn't think I could cut a 27p essay down to 12p but here I am... #thankgodforendnotespace
