  1. Hi! I am in MAJOR need of advice! Here's the sitch: I live in California. I work for an educational non-profit that I LOVE and care for deeply. I was given an unofficial job offer last week to take over our region as a Regional Manager (making a salary, full-time hours, management experience) for minimum of a one year commitment. DAYS later, I receive awesome news! I have been accepted into the Masters of Arts for Psychology with a focus in Cognition and Neuroscience at NYU!!! NEW YORK OMG! I have dreamt of New York for nearly ten years now and even applied to NYU for my BA ou
  2. Seriously confused here. I have very competitive funding at MSU and Peabody. MSU course isn't best suited for me but my advisor is amazing and really well known in the field and in my home country. CRA Peabody course is AMAZING and very much in line with my interests and faculty interests align but I wouldn't have as much support to research in home country. Cambridge and UCL - no funding yet, but thinking about waiting it out. Thoughts?
  3. Hey! I saw an old thread on this so I figured I'd start another one up for the upcoming year! I was just accepted to the Masters in L & T at Harvard, and I am currently worried quite a bit because I'd obviously love to go to Harvard, but I am afraid of just how much debt I will have to incur to go, for just a year. There are several resources that are available on the Admitted HGSE website, however, I'd like to know if anyone has a good understanding of what previous financial aid packages look like and what we might expect. Thanks!
  4. Hello! In this application season, I've received two PHD offers from mid-tier universities in the field of education. And then this week, I was accepted into a Masters in Education at Harvard! I was shocked to say the least, and after the celebrations cleared, I found myself seriously thinking about getting a second Master's. Both my Bachelor's degree and my Master's degree that I currently have are from the two institutions that have offered the PHD programs to me. The Master's that I currently hold in education was more concentrated on getting me ready to become a certified teacher in m

    UCLA GSEIS?

Hi all! Glad to hear that so many people have gotten interviews and acceptances Best of luck to everyone as we start hearing back more... I saw that several people have started hearing back from UCLA, and was wondering if all the concentrations get notified around the same time, or if they tend to be really spread out? It looks like Urban Schooling has heard back so far... Anyone else heard back from any other concentration?
  6. Any opinions on UCLA's TEP program from current students/alum? I was curious to hear anyone's thoughts on the program while I await admissions notification And to any applicant: called and they stated decisions would be sent out mid to end of this week! but we will see! good luck to us all
  7. Has anyone heard from the Indiana University's Department of Education? I know they offer several degrees. I have applied for the EdD Literacy, Culture, Language Education online. Applications were due January 15 though, mine was in December 5th. Should the acceptances go out at the same time for PhD and EdD in the same department? It seems like they would. I have not seen anything on the board yet for this year and a year ago they went out on the 13th. I am also unsure about the possibility of funding for an EdD. I would assume that's a no and they would be happy to accept my fully qu
  8. Hi Everyone, I'm not sure if anyone else is applying for this program. We don't have much of a presence on the results page over the past 8 years so I was just curious to know if anyone else had applied this season? I haven't heard a peep from Davis, but two rejections supposedly happened in early Feb. Also, compared to previous years it appears that decisions are coming out later than usual? Hopefully, decisions haven't gone out yet, but I guess it's possible that they forgot to reject me. D:
  9. Did anyone else apply to their Ph.D. (or Masters!) programs? I was invited to the "finalist weekend" yesterday and am really excited.
  10. Hello, everyone! Anyone waiting for UCI's emails for interviews on PhD Education? Hope I at least receive an email about anything in January...
  11. Hi, I feel a bit too new to open a new topic, but here goes. I just checked on the status page that someone got an interview for cs & ls. Oh no. I am freaking out as this is the first or at least second school on my wishlist and also had thought as application deadlines were so late, that interview emails would come later this month. Plus I saw past posts that said the interviews were on feb! Did anyone else get emails? Does NU send out interview emails over a longer period than just a day? I'm extremely anxious and completely unable to focus on anything else, HELP!
  12. Does anybody know if all decisions have been made at UCSB for the Education PhD program? I saw one person nominated for fellowships list an acceptance on the results page last week, and the school website mentions that Admit Day will take place on February 5th, but other than that it has been radio silence. In previous cycles it looks like rejections have gone out about the same time as acceptances so I don't know what to think. Has anybody else heard from them? Starting to get worried...
  13. Genuine question on a potentially controversial topic: Does anyone have any insight into current graduate programs (of particular concern, education graduate programs) and their usage of affirmative action? I understand the Supreme Court ban, the current ban in 8 states, but also the "under the table" continued use of affirmative action for "diversity". I am a male and underrepresented minority race. Is there some preference for this demographic in education graduate programs? My searches haven't found any recent forum posts on this, only years old ones that did mention certain f
  14. Hello all! I am hoping someone more experienced can give me some insight. I have applied to the Masters of Teaching program at Kansas State University. The admission process for it seemed like it would be pretty quick, but since it had been several weeks I checked in with the director of the program. His response was: We have reviewed and recommended but are waiting for the Graduate School to process. . .Should be soon. Would this mean that I have been recommended for admission into the program? Thanks!
  15. Hello Grad Cafe Forum! I have yet to see a USF forum and thought I would start one. I am applying for the Ed.D in International and Multicultural Education program with a concentration in Human Rights Education. Does anybody know what their acceptance rates are like? I guess I am just really nervous about the GRE since I haven't taken it yet.. Thanks in advance!!
  16. I'm a current Senior at a small liberal arts school and I want to earn my Master's in Secondary English Education in NY. The problem is that every program I look at includes a looong list of prerequisite "General Educational Core" courses in which I'm supposed to have credits before I apply. Here's an example from Hofstra:Artistic Expression/Humanities (3 s.h.)Communication (3 s.h.)Information Retrieval or placement exam (0-3 s.h.)Concepts in History/Social Science (3 s.h.)Language other than English (3 s.h.)Scientific Processes (3 s.h.)Mathematical Processes (3 s.h.)Literature, Analysis and W
  17. Guys, have you beard about Georgetown University's brand new program - Master's in Educational Transformation? It is very hands on and looks perfect for practioners like myself. I will be applying this year. http://edtransform.georgetown.edu/
  18. Who's planning on applying to a Masters of Education for 2017-2018 school year? Trying to figure out how everyone tackles this process...

  20. I want to conduct research on the psychological effects new technologies like smartphones and social media has on our creativity, education, social interactions, etc. Is there a program in which I can study the effects of new technology, since the psychological research on this topic seems so scant.
  21. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone here has applied/been accepted to a PhD in international education policy without a master's degree? A little about me: Graduated from my school's honors college: 3.7 Completed an honors thesis Full-time research coordinator for 1+ year Hopefully, will have a publication or two by August Will have great letters of rec! Upcoming Fulbright grant (2017-2018) ESL tutor for 3 years Volunteer for a girls' school in Tanzania 4 years of undergraduate research Teaching assistant, wor
  22. Could not find a thread on this but thought this could be a good place to get acquainted! Super excited for the fall I'm in the Ed.M SSP program
  23. Hello, I am currently considering applying to a handful of MBA/MA programs, and I was wondering if anyone else has knowledge of these kinds of programs, or if they are currently enrolled in one, particularly with regards to the field of education. If so, please let me know - I'd love to hear about your experiences! I'm also mulling over entering an MA program directly and applying to an MBA program after accepting an offer of admission from the school of education. Again, if there are any students with that kind of interdisciplinary interest or experience, please let me know! Thank
  24. Has anyone heard back for the International Education MA at NYU for fall/summer 2017? Decisions were out by now last year but some years it looks like they took closer til the end of March. Or has anyone spoken to admissions and have an idea when they'll go out?
  25. Okay, so I'm a first generation college student, trying really hard to wrap my head around grad school and my odds of being accepted. Background: I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education from a small, private liberal arts college. Graduated in 2014. Immediately after college, I joined Teach for America and spent two years in an inner-city school. After, I moved back to the western Chicago suburbs. I have since been teaching kindergarten at a not-for-profit child care center since June 2016. Here's the catch: I have decided I want to do research psychology. Psychology
