  1. For people who have been accepted to OISE's Master of Arts in Child Study & Education program, are any of you in the RIT (Research Intensive) Stream? Wondering whether only PBI (Practice Based Inquiry) has received acceptances yet or RIT candidates have also been accepted.
  2. This is my first post. I found The Grad Cafe by searching Google for topics pertaining to graduate programs that do not require the GRE (to which I was directed to the following topic): And I must say that I was very intrigued. However, given my current difficult situation I am now somewhat more concerned and/or perplexed as to how deep this rabbit hole I currently seem to be in is going. But before anyone gets too confused by my own confusion let me explain my situation (and I apologize in advance for being long winded). I have a BA in philosophy, currently work 2 jobs (7 days/
  3. Hi, Just saw an update on the result page re. an interview with the language and literacy studies (phd) at UBC. Just wanna see if interviews are common. I am applying to EDST and needless to say...no news yet... Thanks!
  4. Hi all! I haven't seen much about anyone applying to the Stanford POLS program, so I thought I'd start a new thread. Please introduce yourselves!
  5. While I am in this agonising, drawn-out waiting game, I thought I would start a post for people who have applied to graduate programmes in Educational Studies. I have applied to two schools in Canada (UBC and UVic, but none in the US). UBC's deadline was on Dec 1 so I am really hoping to hear from them soon. UVic's domestic deadline is not until Feb 15 so it will be a while. Are any of you also waiting for the admission results? Let's get this thread going!
  6. I have room for 1 more class in the fall and seeing as it will be the last full semester graduate schools will see on my application I want to make it count! Here are my choices: A measure theory independent study. I don't think I have any or much exposure to measure theory and I am reading it is very helpful for graduate level probability/stats. A con I see for this is that I will probably be taking a class in this my first year into a program so having this before hand doesn't look or help me THAT much (or does it?) Another option is a graduate level time series
  7. I am still waiting for two more programs' decisions. I got accepted to the UCSB without funding (PhD in education). Nothing about funding was mentioned in the decision/welcome email. It seems like it is quite common that the UCSB does not offer funding to new students. Hmm...what would you do?
  8. Just got admitted in this program, education technology and learning design, but the letter doesn't mention any funding, which is weird for doctoral study. Their website does mention PhD student may be eligible for 18k per year and up to 2 years. I'm an international student btw. Anyone is also got the admission?
  9. For anyone who is considering attending UCSB for the PhD in Education, or anyone currently attending, or anyone with an opinion.... What do you think of the program? How available are research opportunities? Are classmates smart and do you have a lot to learn from them? What is the admit rate? I'm mostly curious about their research methods/stat program.
  10. Hello all! I've been a longtime lurker on this forum and I was hoping that I could get some input on the decision that I have to make regarding grad school. I was recently accepted to the Stanford Ph.D. program in Higher Education (full funding and fellowships) as well as a Master's program in Higher Education from the University of Michigan (in-state tuition). On paper, it seems like a no-brainer because Stanford is a better program with better funding. I'm torn though because I'm an Ann Arbor native and my whole family has attended Michigan. I went to an Ivy for undergrad, but I always
  11. Hello! I am starting this because I am hoping that having a place to discuss the admissions process (and the agonizing wait for acceptance/rejection). I am a student from the U.S., applying to UBC's M.Ed program in Educational Studies SCPE program. I was wondering if anyone has been offered acceptance by the Faculty of Education, now or previously, and could offer any advice or comments on the process. Or, if anyone else who applied wanted to chat/comment about their experience I would love to share this journey and welcome the company so that it may hopefully distract me from my own cont
  12. Hello! I respectfully ask if anyone has received invitations for interviews at Harvard for Fall 2016? I hope for the best for everyone! We should have a meet & greet over coffee in DC/NoVa area, notwithstanding the Harvard matriculation.
  13. Hi all! I hope to hear back positively from Harvard. It is unclear whether all interview invitations have been sent out, but I do hope for the best (for everyone). I currently teach at the college level and I would like to change the way in which the public school education system in America operates, particularly for students with disabilities and those living in poverty. If anyone wants to connect and has the same ambitions of positively impacting our national interest, please send me a message. Perhaps we can meet over a cup of coffee in the DC metro area. Don't be stra
  14. Hey everyone! I recently got invited for an interview at Teachers College--my top choice! It's for the doctoral program in Social Studies ed. Has anyone else gotten an interview? Or know how they use interviews (for funding, interviewing shortlisted students, or do all students receive an interview)? I understand different programs use them for different reasons and the likelyhood of acceptance varies, but any insight would be great!
  15. Hey everyone, I have an interview at one of my top choice doctoral programs and I know they're going to ask me about my research interests. I'm wondering how specific my answer should be? I'm not sure how specific and concrete my research interests should be at this point. Obviously, I addressed my interests in my personal statement but they're still pretty broad. Any suggestions on how to respond to this question?
  16. Are there any Joint MBA and MA Education (or MEd) applicants? I'm looking pretty closely at three programs, and am currently trying to decide between that and a Ph.D. Haven't seriously considered getting an MBA before now, but I am very interested and wondering how/if I stack up. I'm also considering several Master's and Ph.D programs in Education, with a focus on African Americans in Higher Ed. Feel free to ask me for more info if it helps you to respond. Thanks for your input!
  17. Interview invitations apparently went out for the Harvard Education PhD program on January 23. Is it safe to assume (today is Feb 3) that no invitation for interview means no shot at acceptance?
  18. Hello, has anybody heard back from Vandy for the child studies program?
  19. Hi all, I just wanted to start a topic on CU Boulder's PhD Applicants. Has anyone received an offer of acceptance yet? Post when you have! PB
  20. Has anyone else received an email from the Program in Social Studies of Teachers College inviting them to an open house/interview?
  21. So I just got in to Vanderbilt for an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration. And by just got in I mean like 7 days ago...but anyway. Who else has?! Anyone else going to Visitation Day on the first weekend of February?
  22. Anyone planning on enrolling in the International Education Policy program at HGSE in the fall? Is there any interest in starting up a Facebook group to share thoughts, ideas, questions, etc?
  23. Hello, I applied for a masters in International Education/Development at 5 schools, with 2 being international. So far I have been accepted into my top 2 choices which is exciting but really leaves me wondering about the quality of each program as I don't know anyone who has pursued an International Education MA, never mind at the schools I applied to. Since I don't have much to go on aside from endlessly googling, I thought I'd reach out to you all. These are the schools I applied to: University of London, Institute of Education- accepted Columbia Teachers College- accepted NYU- waiti
  24. A few programs have heard back, what about yours?
  25. I am hearing from many of you that you are waiting on funding before you make your decision. I had always assumed that most schools gave out their funding information with their acceptances as a package. This seems to be how it works for most other majors, even non-science ones. Is this something singular to the world of education? I applied within the funding deadlines for all of my schools and not a single one has given me specific financial aid OR funding information, even though they have had all of the necessary paperwork (FAFSA, essays, etc.). I know all of the basic information
