  1. Hi, I have been invited to do a Skype interview with a professor at Cornell Tech for the M.Eng in Computer Science. I was wondering what kind of interview it will be and what kind of questions I can expect? The only information I got in the email from the admissions department was that I should be prepared to answer technical questions about my experience in computer science. What do you think they mean by that? They also mentioned that the interview will only take between 15 - 30 minutes. If anyone has some experience, then I would be grateful if you could share your advice and exp

  3. I'm a GSU student and already got a MS in computer science. I want to apply 2019 Fall CS phd program. My GPA is 3.65/4, GRE is V152, Q168, AW(still waiting the score). No publications, no job experience, but I have some related research experience and TA experience. So what ranking range of CS phd program I could apply? Top 50 to top 90?
  4. I would like to provide some information regarding the reality of getting admitted to top 5 ranked Canadian graduate schools in the Computer Science Program. I work in the field and it appears to me that many applicants are not aware of some of the basic requirements to be admitted that are not overtly stated but definitely required. Unfortunately, I am unable to reveal my university or position as I wish to remain anonymous. Most of the time, you MUST have previous degree from a top school of your country, especially for students with a degree outside of Canada/USA/UK. This is extreme

  8. Hi all! Looking for any advice and input from anyone familiar with MSCS programs. I have an unrelated undergraduate degree and would like to know which schools are worth applying to, and which are not. I know there are other individuals trying to get into CS without a CS undergrad degree - so perhaps this will be useful for them too in future. For context: I have a Bachelor of Music as an undergrad. In preparation to apply for masters programs in CS*, I have completed the following 10 courses (by application date): Discrete Structures, Programming I, Programming II (completes on
  9. Hey, just decided to start this to check in with everyone who'll be applying to MS or PhD Canada Fall 2018. What schools are you applying to and subfields?
  10. Hey guys, I am planning for doing MS in Computer Science. Please suggest me ambitious, moderate and safe universities based on my profile. GRE - 308 TOEFL - 90 Academics - B.Tech. in IT (8.27 CGPA) Work Experience - 6 years as an Android Developer
  11. Hi! I know it's a bit late now but I just received my offer to MS in data science from Columbia and MS in Computer Science (Scientist and Engineers) from USC, besides MS in data science in NYU. I am having great difficulty deciding among these three programs. My brain literally shut down and beg for other's suggestions... A bit of background, I am graduating from UCSD majoring in Applied Mathematics and minor in Computer science with specialization in Machine Learning. I am a bit inclined towards becoming a data scientist in the future but I don't mind studying computer science. Fo
  12. Hi I'm CS undergrad with 1 year industry experience, 1+ years of lab intern experience (machine learning, computational biology). I'm trying to apply at phD programs. I love machine learning but during my internship, I found I'm not that really interested in computational biology as I first thought and I want to search labs where I can research deep learning and trading system such as stock recommendation system, trading agent using RL, stock forecasting with various deep models, interpreting chart etc... I've been told at ML courses RL and machine learning system has been successf
  13. Hello guys, I got accepted into ECE MEng at UIUC and CS MS at UCSD. I wonder which programs will help me more in my future career. I have good background in CS and already got an internship in big company this summer. Could you please share your suggestions and reasons? Many thanks.
  14. Any NYU admits for MS CS fall 2018??
  15. Hi everyone, I recently got admits from UCSD, UCI, UMD, UMich, all MS in CS. None comes with funding. I'm having a hard time making a decision, and really appreciate any help you could provide. For the context, I want to focus on AI/HCI for my MS CS. Because I am an international student, these are my top two priorities to decide: 1. ROI, or career prospect in the US after graduation 2. TA/RA opportunities, anything to help with the cost These are general feelings I had from reading through the internet and department websites (the only source I had), please cor
  16. Hello everyone! I submitted my application for Columbia University master in computer science 11.14 last year. I have noticed that there have been some admissions and rejections as regard to this this program, but my status of application is still pending. So, is there anybody in the same situation as me? BTW, do some of you guys know when the admissions and rejections will be given to me? Thanks for your kind help!
  17. Hi guys! I'm a South African EE undergrad that got admitted to MS CS at Georgia Tech I haven't made a final decision yet,but I think I will accept the offer - I got rejected from all the other schools I applied to (Stanford, UT Austin and UCSD). It's pretty clear to me that the degree offers a pretty good ROI and job prospects, but I've never been to the GT campus or even to the state of Georgia, so I was just wondering what the quality of life in Atlanta is like? I'm also very curious if any South Africans have been admitted to Georgia Tech this season? Are you thinking of accepting? I
  18. Which course is better? Georgia tech CS or Columbia DS. I am leaning towards a data science course.
  19. I'm interested in pursuing a PhD&career in either data science or machine learning in the future, but don't have an undergrad degree in CS, data science, machine learning, etc. and discovered my interest late so I've only taken 1 intro programming course and I'm assuming they have pretty rigorous pre-reqs I majored in Physics at Cornell (cum.~3.6, 3.3 in major) and have had a couple years of research experience in multiple settings (working on first publication). I'd be willing to take a masters program in between, but wondered what my best option would be to make the transitio
  20. Applied for MS in CS. So I just received an acceptance from: UNC Charlotte Georgia State University (GCU) Universities yet to reply: University of Michigan Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) University of Missouri University of Georgia Should I wait or go either one of these? If so, which one???
  21. 22. Hi all, this decision thing is becoming a torture. I narrowed it down to Northeastern Uni vs Brown. I like both possible advisors, who work on different things (albeit in the same broad field). I have also visited both campuses, but it didn't help much because I liked both. Has anyone got any experience with those schools for a CS PhD?
  23. I was accepted into 2 Computer Science PhD programs. When applying I had a favorite school, but back then I thought that ranking was the most important thing. Now I am struggling a lot with my decision, especially because I find the advisor in the lower ranking program I got in (90s according to USNews), the best match. I also saw that previous students seem to have gotten excellent placements post graduation. I talked to some of them and they were very enthusiastic about their experience. While in the highest ranking program i got in (ranking around 50th), my advisor is new and therefore
  24. I have been accepted into PhD programs at UCSC and Northwestern. Everything else remaining equal: should being closer to Silicon Valley (to the tech industry and research labs there) be a factor in my decision?
  25. I got accepted into a couple Computer Science MS schools and I've narrowed it down to: Stanford's MS CS program and CMU INI MSIS program. I got a full tuition scholarship and an RA stipend at CMU. I've also heard that Stanford has TA/RA positions available to students. I am interested in doing industry related research in the computer security and ML field. I am currently doing my undergrad at UC Berkeley EECS and I feel like Stanford might be a good fit for me just because other Masters students at Stanford may have a similar educational background. Stanford would also give me the flexibility
