  1. Hello everyone, Could anyone shed some light on the differences between environmental management, environmental policy, environmental geography, sustainable development, environmental science, and environmental studies Master's degrees? I'm wondering not only about the types of careers that people enter after, but what mix of life sciences, social science, and project management are taught in the programs themselves. I realize this is EXTREMELY broad and therefore difficult to specify---particularly given how interdisciplinary many of these programs are---but any experience or insight wo
  2. It's almost priority deadlines for Yale F&ES, Nicholas school, SEAS, and others. I saw there was a 2019 topic on env management and policy, so I thought I'd start one for this admissions cycle. Let's help each other out, commiserate (hopefully not), and (sustainably) celebrate together! For all applicants to MEMs, environmentally-focused MPPs/MPAs, etc
  3. It's almost priority deadline day for Yale FES and Duke Nicholas. Anyone else applying? And any other MEM or MPP/MPA programs environmental policy?
  4. Hello, I would appreciate thoughts regarding graduate school decisions/comments from people in the same boat. Interested in environmental policy and potentially private sector consulting or NGO work. Accepted to: George Washington University - Environmental Resource Policy, Trachtenberg School ($10k/year fellowship) Still waiting on a decision from UCSB Bren MESM. Obviously this could all be for nothing depending on decision from Bren, but going into this process I regarded UCSB Bren as my #1 choice due to program respect in the environmental field, location (Santa Barbar
  5. I have a bachelors in Economics from India and an MSc. in Environmental Management from UK. I also have 4 years of experience in policy research. What universities in US/Canada can I apply to? I want to do research in environmental policy in developing countries. Most programs I look at have a science focus rather than a management one. My GRE score: V- 160, Q-163, AWA- 5 Top Unis like Columbia and UC Berkeley are out of my reach. Any suggestions of schools which have great PhD programs in Environmental Management?
  6. Going to grad school for environmental policy, especially energy/climate/transportation policy. Which one?? Each has diff strengths. Have visited all 3 and asked plenty of questions. Haven't spoken with Bren alums yet though -- anyone here a Bren alum? I'd love to pick your brain before admission offers all expire on Sat Apr 15. Duke Nicholas: policy school classes, energy initiative, big alum network, generally big and lots of resources (maybe research?) George Washington U Trachtenberg: environmental resource policy program, location in dc lots of govt and ngo opportunities while
  7. Hi, I am looking to apply for environmental policy PhD for the fall 2017 intake. I have an undergrad in economics from India and an MSc. in environmental management from UK. I have 3 years of work experience but only a year of that is in environmental research, other 2 years of work ex is in finance. I will be appearing for my GRE in September, though I currently score between 300-320 in my mocks. I wanted to know which programs should I apply to with my background? I found Ivy League colleges like SIPA columbia, FES Yale and Duke's PhD but I am skeptical of my ability to get admis
  8. We're a relatively small bunch, but I'm hoping to connect with others who are applying to PhD programs in environmental studies. This interdisciplinary field doesn't seem to have a home on The Grad Cafe forums, so let's start with this thread. I've tagged this post with several pertinent keywords, so I'm hoping that these tags will help us to find one another. Here are some representative stand-alone programs in Environmental Studies. Many, but not all, of these schools are known primarily for their Master's programs, but all have PhD programs as well. Most implicitly (or explicitly) requir
