  1. Hi everyone! I'm planning to apply to the MA in Political Science at UBC for the September 2021 intake (I've got everything ready but the three recommendation letters but that shouldn't be a problem) Here's my "stats": GPA of the last two years (BA degree): 3.73/4.0 and 3.8/4.0. My final grade was 110 cum laude which in my country (Italy) is the highest you can get TOEFL: 107/120 Extra curricular: sadly not much except for the fact I've spent a semester in China (my BA is in East Asian studies, so I want to conduct research into Asian politics at UBC as it's one of the
  2. Hi political scientists. I have been preparing my application for 2021 MA application at UBC. I was hoping some one may have some advice about what classes should I take and an evaluation for my profile. Here are my stats. Undergrad Institution: Known research university in Vancouver, Major Communication (current CGPA 3.85) Minor Political Science. Relevant courses: Pre cal (A-), Introductory Stat (A-), Communication quant research (A+), Communication qual reseach (A), Political Economy (A-) Political Science courses: Introduction (A), Introductory game theory (A+), Intro Pol qu
  3. Hi all I've applied to graduate programs in Canada for Classical Archaeology and Classics with a focus in archaeology... My advisors have been a bit unclear and not up-to-date on what the best programs are, international reputations, and the reputations of academics in their departments. Does anyone have any insight into the classical arch programs at UBC, UofA, Mcmaster, and Brock? Where do they rank, which supervisors are highly recommended, if programs are well funded or not? Thank you!!! (i originally posted in decisions, decisions but i think this is more appropriate)

    Goldsmiths & RCA

Hello, I was curious if anyone has any information regarding how the Goldsmiths MFA program compares to the RCA CAP (Critical practice program MA)? I am an international student and have not been able to visit because of the pandemic, but have been accepted into both. I am probably going to defer because of the travel limits/safety issues but need to make a decision beforehand. From what I understand goldsmiths has more space and is very conceptual, and the rca is very prestigious but the CAP program also seems to be very conceptual. I have looked through all their program specifications and p
  5. Hello. I just joined the forums because I need help but have no one to ask around me. I just got accepted to Columbia University's MA program in Social-Organizational (IO) Psychology. I understand that the program is mostly designed for students who are looking for a terminal program. I hear it is possible for students to continue their studies into a doctorate but it is not so common because the program itself isn't research based, but rather theory based. However, I don't want to rule out the option to obtain a PhD in case I do decide to continue my studies. The MA program at
  6. Hi, so here's the deal. I got accepted into UChicago's MAPH in Creative Writing with a scholarship of $12000 (of course, it isn't really much keeping in mind the total tuition for the program.) I've also been accepted into an MA in English program with a creative writing concentration at Texas Tech University, which offers me a teaching stipend. The program at Texas Tech is decent (plus cheaper) and I've spoken to a few current graduate students and honestly, I was mentally prepared that I'd be accepting their offer. However, I didn't really expect UChicago to accept me. Naturally, I'm quite

  9. Hey all! I didn't see many forums for the counseling and other related master's and I've been obsessively starting to check my email for interview invites so put yours below! School Name: Program: (MHC, MSW, MFT, etc.) Date invite received: Interview date: if you want
  10. Does anyone know of scholarships and grants for MA in JHU? Specific programs for Indian students is also welcome. Thanks.

  12. Hello,, I'm trying to apply for International Relations MA programs in the UK and I've wrote my first draft on Personal Statement. English isn't my first language so I feel there are a lot of grammatical mistakes and the context doesn't seem strong enough. Please look over my SOP and give me feedback/advice. Thank you in advance!! ________________________________________________________________________ Personal Statement China-US Trade War, Brexit and the EU, North Korea-US summit, and the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong. 13. Hey all, Could use a bit of advice here--I'm still in the acclimation process to my grad program, and I have fallen sick with a bit of what seems to be a developing cold. I don't think it is terribly severe, but I do wonder if you have any advice for managing this situation when my schedule is dominated by coursework, teaching, and work at a side job for which I can't readily find a stand-in for my shift. Please let me know what your tips and tricks are?
  14. Hi y'all! Love all the advice in this forum. I'm currently finishing up my MA in Psychology in Spring 2020. I have decided to take a year off between my MA and starting my Clinical Psychology PhD. So I'll be applying for and starting my PhD in Fall 2021. Is this a good idea? Any thought/advice/tips on what should I do in the year to amp up my PhD application? Background: BS in Biomedical Engineering Current: MA in Psychology, RA in 3 labs on campus, 1 poster presented on campus, no publications yet... Thanks!
  15. Hey guys! I was wondering if any Group B applicants to OISE's GA positions have heard anything back yet? I know they said end of august or first week of september, but the waiting has me so stressed out.
  16. Greetings everyone. I was wondering if someone could take a look at my statement of purpose for graduate school applications? It would be good to get perspective(s) on it so that I can be more prepared! Thanks! -Izzie Statement of Purpose- Graduate Applications.docx
  17. I’m applying for an MA in English for spring entrance, and I have a question. The app says academic writing samples should be between 10 and 20 pages long. All my academic samples (lit analysis, not creative writing) are 8 pages at most. Should I submit two? Try and extend one? Or submit one as is and hope for the best? Any advice would be lovely!
  18. So, I've seen threads in other groups where people share their funding packages for MA/PhD as a useful resource for people who want to apply for schools, but aren't sure what the funding may be like. Or you know, just for sheer curiosity too. Anyways, the google sheet is editable by anyone, so feel free to add your school. Cheers! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qoEVD2hIshffv07L00z0pDS0M25cKCB7PcjXpk-v5X0/edit?usp=sharing
  19. So, TL;DR deadline day is coming up for me to choose on Sol Price at SC for my MPA or do my MA IR at NYU. SC will be slightly cheaper, but price isn’t a big factor to me as much as career prospects. From posting over at r/gradschool and a couple other forums it seems like MPA is more in demand and offers more diverse options, but I’m not sure. I want to go into politics longterm, but want to lecture at the uni level in the interim, which would require a PhD. Right now the real hold up is being worried whether or not I’d be able to do a PhD in IR without a masters in the field. Als
  20. Seeking out International Finance and Economics (MA), Ryerson University FALL 17 STUDENTS Hi, I applied to International Finance and Economics (MA, F-17), Ryerson University. Lets gather all the applicants under this thread. Share your status! It's been more than a month and I have not yet received any communication from them (apart from GS Acknowledgement). Has anyone heard anything back even from them even in different subject? Moreover, how many students do they enroll in that course and how do i know about my application status?
  21. I'm fairly new to grad cafe so sorry if I'm doing this wrong but I need some advice. I'm an aspiring history professor but I only have one language under my belt (French) and know that I definitely need to pick up Latin before applying to Ph.D. programs. I also have an average undergraduate background and would like to improve my chances of getting into a top 30 history Ph.D. program. That being said, I realize that some of the programs I'm applying to will be a reach. I'm looking into getting my MA in either history or medieval studies. I'll detail some of my academic background below
  22. I am extremely grateful to be accepted into both these schools, however, I now need to make a decision! I need to choose between the MA in Teaching of English at TC Columbia, or the STEP program with a focus in Teaching of English at the Stanford GSE. Both programs are one year in length - with Stanford beginning this Summer, and TC beginning this Fall. I am a qualified teacher from Australia. The STEP program will provide me with a teaching credential in California, whereas the MA from TC is non cert. At this stage, I am undecided about what I will do after I complete the one year progr
  23. Did anyone hear back from this program? I think the first wave of offers and rejections came out around March 7th, but haven't heard about anything since then. My status is still "under review."
  24. Hi guys, So I applied to the MA program in Comparative Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam in Fall 2019. Deadline for program application was March 1, but I submitted mine before Jan 15 because I also applied to the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship. On March 11 the school sent me an announcement that I was granted the scholarship. However, they told me that the fact I got the scholarship meant I “would likely be an excellent student for the program,” but I was “not yet officially admitted to the program.” They said the scholarship and the admission are 2 separate processes, a
  25. Hi all, I have been offered admission to Simon Fraser University with a good funding package. I have heard back from Tufts as well and will receive the offer soon. I know that funding at Tufts isn't very good. However, they have a good placement record. The placement record (link) at SFU is also decent, but it doesn't have as many big names as the Tufts record. I'm confused about where I should go. AOI: Philosophy of medicine, philosophy of mind Any suggestions about what I should do? Thanks
