  1. Hi, Did anyone hear anything about the results this year?
  2. Hi all, I'm starting a phd program in the US this fall and I am exploring FRQNT and NSERC doctoral scholarships opportunities for 2021-2022. My understanding is that you cannot hold both the awards. However, the FRQNT has an exception for students outside of Quebec whose tuition fees are greater or equal than the award itself but must not be covered by other organizations. My tuition fees are higher than the cost of this award but are usually waivered by my university as I hold a TA/RA position. However, I did some research online and from a few LinkedIn profiles it seems that some people were awarded both (although they could have declined it). This is rather unclear and I was wondering if anyone been in that situation and is able to give me some advice? Thanks.
  3. Has anybody got notification of decision from NSERC PDF? I got "short-list of alternates". They didn't tell me my rank. Do you know how possible can I get accepted?
  4. Hi All, If a topic for this has already been started please forgive (and redirect) me! Are there any Canadians out there who want to stress / commiserate about the fact we won't know about funding through the CGS Master's until April 1st. I'm not a current grad student and applied for CGS (SSHRC) funding for three schools- 2 of which I have already been admitted two, the other I should hear from either today or early next week. It's a significant factor in my decision and the waiting process is killing me . . .
  5. Hi everyone, I got this email a last week regarding CGS-M. Does this email say I've gotten an unofficial acceptance? __________________- Dear [Me], I am very pleased to inform you that your application to CGS-M award to the [University] was nominated by our departmental selection committee and has been ranked highly by the [University] in its central adjudication process. Results will be made available to applicants and posted on the Research Portal as of April 1st 2017, the date mandated by the Tri-Agencies. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions regarding your application. I would like to extend my congratulations and best wishes for your future success.
  6. Hello all, I'm a Canadian who graduated this year and made the decision to take a year off and work before attending graduate school. It's that time of the year again. I initially had no intention of applying for NSERC funding, but changed my mind last minute. I'm now struggling to write a summary of proposal. I was thinking of recycling the proposal I had used for my honours thesis, despite having no intentions to pursue said research any further. Would this be unethical? Would the professors writing me a letter of recommendation be able to see my profile and view that I've recycled an old thesis? Am I eligible to apply for NSERC funding if I have taken a year off and am no longer associated with an institution? Cheers.
  7. I am currently applying for an NSERC masters scholarship which requires a research proposal. However, I am currently discussing multiple potential research projects with different professors. I can put in different potential universities for the scholarship but only one research proposal and am unsure how this works?
  8. Hi all, Anyone else waiting to hear back from NSERC? I believe letters were mailed out on March 18th last year, so hopefully it won't be much longer.
  9. There is no thread for the NSERC 2012-2013 competition and I wanted to know when do we find out if our application has been forwarded by the university to NSERC? As a side, any discussion on NSERC is welcome.
  10. Hello out there, As far as I can tell, no one has started a thread for the current (i.e. awarded in 2012) Vanier CGS competition. I thought it would be great for people to join and share when they hear the word about the Vanier and how they hear (i.e. by mail, email, through their university). From past years it looks like we have about six weeks to go, the results seem to come out mostly in early April. Good luck!
  11. Hello, I've applied to the SSHRC Doctoral scholarship and my application has proceeded to 'round 2'. In my application I suggested I would be attending a Canadian university. However, I've actually accepted an offer to a US University. I also received full funding for 5 years - 22k/year. Now i'm wondering if I am also awarded SSHRC, how much of the 20k would I be allowed to keep? Does anyone doing their PhD in the US have experience with this? thanks!
  12. Hello, Anybody heard anything from NSERC in regards to PGS/CGS ? Many thanks,
