  1. Hi All I had posted this elsewhere originally but I think I put it in the wrong place, because nobody replied..and surely there are people out there who have applied to this program haha. I'm new to this website so I do not really know what I am doing, buttttt I thought I’d start a thread for everyone who has applied for Fall 2022 to NYU for their MA Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness. I just submitted my application for the online program this last week after turning down an offer from Northwestern University. Would love to connect with others who have also applied for Fall if you’ve already been accepted, congrats!! If youve attended this program, please feel free to share your experience. Have a great day! -Jen #mentalhealthcounseling #MACounseling #NYU
  2. Just figured I'd start a thread to see who's on the same boat! I'm applying to Columbia, NYU (Cultural Reporting and Criticism), CUNY, Boston University, Northwestern (Magazine Specialization), School of the Art Institute of Chicago (New Arts Journalism), and possibly The New School's Creative Publishing and Critical Journalism if I have the time. Top choice is NYU CRC, but I'm not getting my hopes up because it seems as if people who have gotten into these programs already have bylines or internships at major, nationally recognized publications and/or are established journalists. I also opted not to take the GRE, even though it says "optional but strongly preferred", even though I acknowledge this may hurt my chances. I have a theatre/creative writing major (I know, hence grad school), my minor was in journalism, and my GPA is 3.7, Magna Cum Laude, Dean's List every semester. I interned for a major city magazine with a circulation of about 300,000, a nationally syndicated broadcast tv show, a non profit political organization, and I've written for three relatively well known fashion magazines. For my letters of recommendation, even though I'm applying to journalism programs, I opted to use my creative writing professors over my journalism professors. This is because I did better in their classes, because it was my current major and what I was more focused on at the time. Plus, they've known me longer and we have closer relationships. Maybe I'm overanalyzing things, but my one professor said they're planning on writing one letter and sending it to different schools, but wouldn't it be better if they customized the letters for each program? Not really my place to correct them I assume, as they've very busy and doing me a favor. None of my journalism professors have time to look over my SOPs, so I may have to go somewhere else (currently frantically emailing people). I was just hoping for one of them, because they seem to know the most about what these programs are looking for. But I'll take whoever I can get at this point. I also still need someone to look over my resume. As for my writing samples, I'm pretty confident in which ones I'm going to use. I'd ask my professors for their thoughts, but they've already dealt with me enough, and I should probably trust my own instincts on this one. As you can see, I'm really enthusiastic about going to J-School. I just feel like everyone I know who's gotten into these programs has been a Fulbright Scholar or something. Anyway, more comments to come, as I have a lot of thoughts. What J-School Masters are you applying to?
  3. Hey all! Just wondered if there was anyone in the same boat as I am, after finishing applications for various Performance Studies graduate programs, and is freaking out! Did anyone apply to the Columbia Theatre and Performance Studies Program? That's my dream program but it must be crazy difficult to get in....where else did folks apply?
  4. Anyone hear back from this program yet or know a notification of decision date?
  5. RCA IED: Royal College of Art Information Experience Design NYU IDM: New York University Integrated Design and Media RCA IED Pros: - Number one Art School, prestigious network and reputation in art scene - The program aligns with the 'purpose' of my artistic practices - One year program, less tuition and living costs to pay RCA IED Cons: - Few faculties(4, including part time faculties) - Post-brexit London - One year program, no internship opportunity - No focus on computing/technical aspects NYU IDM Pros: - MS Degree, higher employability - The program aligns with the 'technical approach' of my artistic practices - 12 faculties, with 3-4 faculties aligned with my interest NYU IDM Cons: - NYU Tandon is not a good engineering school.. - The overall quality of graduate showcase is not impressive compared to RCA It's such a hard decision to make! As I'm coming from an engineering background, going for NYU Tandon might be a bit more safe choice as it is an engineering school, but I'd also like to adventure through new field of art as my aim throughout both of the program is to be an artist, afterall. Any advices?
  6. Me: MPH for health policy and management concentration. Submitted my application on sophas around Jan.26. Find that GPH has extended its ddl to Mar.15. Can't stop checking my email these days as my anxiety intensified. Anyway, wish me and everyone good luck.
  7. Hello! I am preparing the UX/HCI graduate school for 2022 Fall semester My background is marketing experience(promote, research, commercial design), web-developer and design website. (I am not Computer Science major my undergraduate degree is Bachelor of Art, I learn the coding skill through boost camp - I know Javascript(react) , Java, database, CSS, html and I also know how to use adobe tools and Figma which I took through the online classes ) The reason for graduate school is to study the design. Because I never had a regular course of Design and want to be a UX designer. However, I am still interested in coding, even Arduino and technology Currently I think about applying SVA interaction design, Parsons(The New school) design and technology , Pratt Information Experience Design, MS and NYU ITP or IDM. But I don't know which one is suit for me.. Especially NYU ITP or IDM. Can you give me advice to choose the school??
  8. Hi guys, I applied to NYU Neural Sciences PhD Program and I would like to know when they invite students for interview. I found nothing about it.
  9. Hi, I am receiving a lot of mixed feedback about NYU Steinhardt's online master's program. I got accepted there and at another school but I would be required to move. I don't know if I should choose the program where I would get to be in the classroom (but move across the country) or pick the school where I get to stay home and do it online.. I think hearing from students who actually went through the program or even know someone who went through the program would be really helpful. Please let me know anything you know about NYU Steinhardt's online full-time master's program.
  10. Hello, So basically I have got NYU Tandon MSCS for Fall 2021 and USC MSCS for Spring 2022. At this point I don't really have any interest in doing research. In terms of jobs I've heard that its better being in California due to the proximity to tech jobs. Another factor to consider for me is starting in the fall vs starting in the spring. I've heard a lot of differing opinions regarding this so any clarity would be good. In your opinion what would be the better choice? Thanks in advance
  11. Hi! I am new to this site and just created an account, so apologies if I am doing this wrong or posting in the wrong area! I am a rising senior and I am pretty certain that I want to do a masters program in PR and corporate communications wanted to ask if anyone with experience in or knowledge of these programs would be willing to share some insight into your graduate school admissions process. I am looking to apply for the Fall 2018 or Fall 2019 start dates and would love to go to NYU, but am still discovering all of the other top programs (any recommendations or insights into programs would be much appreciated, too!). I'm at the very beginning of the admissions process--I haven't begun preparing for the GRE or anything yet and am still trying to figure out the lay of the land for these programs--and I wanted to know if there was any advice you would pass down to someone in my position. -Did you use a test prep service for the GRE? -What was your GRE score and how important was the GRE in your admissions? -Were there any other forums or websites you found valuable as resources when you were doing the applications? Just trying to figure out how to get started. Any help or insight you can give me is appreciated!
  12. Hi guys, i've been accepted to both UMass Amherst MS CS and NYU Courant MS CS. I have found mixed opinions regarding which one I should prefer. I am an international student. Not very much inclined towards continuing research work at masters level, just wish to have best possible job opportunities. NYU its new york DUH its more expensive nearer to more industrial openings UMass Amherst its in the middle of nowhere its cheaper (rent + living expenses) more reputed CS program(atleast online rankings as far as i could discern) Please vote in the poll and submit opinions!
  13. Hi, I have been accepted to both NYU Courant MSCS and Georgia Tech MSCS, both without funding. I am looking to do with thesis, as I want to keep PhD option open. I am interested in AI/ML applications for finance and would ideally be researcher/developer for a bank, though don't mind working at a tech company as well. Currently, working as a software developer at an international bank and have been working for 5 years since bachelors. I am leaning towards Georgia Tech because: Cheaper than NYU Can be completed in 1.5 years Better ranking and reputation for AI/ML and CS. NYU Pros: Better city Great business school and overall reputation as a university. Near Wall street Any inputs?
  14. Hi, I got admissions from several great schools for this fall semester, but I cannot decide yet. Where will you choose if you are in my shoes? I have 8 yrs work experience as ux designer and I have BFA in visual design. I’d like to work at FAANG as product designer later, and also I want to be a professor in my country(Asia) later. Here are the pros and cons: 1. CMU mDes + great name value in field/academia ? small cohort size (~10) - location (Pittsburgh) - no STEM 2. UW HCDE + great name value in field + location (close with tech companies) - location (Seattle = boring, rainy..) - low name value in my country ? Big cohort size (100~) 3. NYU ITP + location (New York!) + can experience physical computing - not focus on UX directly ? Big cohort size (100~) 4. RCA GID + double degree (MA in RCA, MS in Imperial College) + more innovative curriculum - location (London.. BREXIT.......) - not focus on UX directly If you have any experience or opinions about these schools, let me know! Thanks!
  15. Hello! I've received offers from NYU and Boston University, both programs are master in Piblic Relations. Meanwhile I am waiting for the IMC program of Northwestern U. As a graduate student majoring in foreign languages and without PR related working experience, I intent to gain some professional experience while studying. Personally I don't think Northwestern wants me because they usually require experience; and I am not confident enough to choose its IMC program because a lot of courses are about finance and statistics. Boston U is good, but when talking about internships and job opportunities as well as related industries in the city, isn't NYC a better place? I guess BU is more academic. As for NYU, I really want to go there but I worry a little about the name of the school to which the program belongs. School of continuing and professional studies... Will it cause some misunderstanding? Another concern is the quality of the program. Some say it is highly practice-based, which is exactly what I want; but others say that it accepts too many students so it becomes less valuable. Could you guys share share some experience and give me some advice? Thanks a lot!
  16. Hi everyone, I am going to pursue a master degree in the UI/UX field. Now I have got the following admissions recently, and both are STEM programs: NYU- Interactive Telecommunications Program(ITP) , waiting for scholarship Pratt- Information Experience Design (IxD), w/ scholarship I was major in logistics management that is not related to art or design when I was undergraduate. And I had some work experiences as a marketer in recent years. Now, my career plan is to become a UI/UX designer. However, a friend of mine, studying at NYU-ITP now, told me that ITP does not focus on UX even though it is a well-known school. Question: Does anyone have any advice on choosing the program? Which program is more competitive in the UI/UX field in the U.S.? Which program has more opportunities to find an internship? Thank you for your kind support! 💗
  17. Has anyone heard anything from NYU Wagner? MPA fall 2021 applicant here. I assume they’re going to stick to their March 1st deadline.
  18. Hi All, is it just me or is GSAS later this year than previous years? I’ve only seen a few posts about GSAS admissions so far. Specifically I am looking for information on the Hebrew and Judaic Studies PhD program for Fall 2021 entry. Has anyone heard from them yet for this or any other GSAS programs?
  19. I am impatiently waiting for *hopefully* an interview notification from NYU's Art Conservation MA. If anyone has applied, I am casting my hook into the ether to see if you have received a notification. I know that we are supposed to find out this week, but as the week drags on I am getting more and more nervous. If you have received correspondence, congratulations, and for me, third time is the charm😬? I am keeping my fingers crossed.
  20. Hi all! I applied and was accepted to both NYU and Columbia, and am trying to choose between the two. I would love anyone's opinions on the two, and also wanted to create a thread for NYU and CU folks who applied, were accepted, and/or committed?
  21. Hi guys, I am new to the forum, I am a little worried about my application to both Columbia and NYU. Let me introduce my background, I graduated from Penn State this May, and planning to apply for Fall 2021. I majored in Psychology and minor in Labor Employment Relation. My GPA is 3.6 and I got V158 and Q157 on the GRE. I attend the Columbia Info session and they said they rarely give admission to students who don't have 1 full year of full-time work experience (which I don't have, I only have summer interns and part-time jobs). Therefore, I just want to ask those who got in or know this program, are my chances big? Also about NYU, is my GPA and GRE good enough? Or should I retake my GRE? Thank you for anyone who is willing to help:D
  22. Hi! Anyone here applying to Gallatin for the MA program starting Fall 2021? I am interested in a concentration in media, social justice, and entrepreneurship. What are you all applying for and how far along in the application are you?
  23. Hi All, I'm planning to submit my application for the American Studies Ph.D. program at NYU this December (for Fall 2021 semester start) and was wondering if anyone had insights to the program and/or tips for the application. I attended NYU for both my undergrad and Masters and worked at a contemporary art museum in fundraising for two years before deciding to leave earlier this month to focus on Ph.D applications while also looking for other development positions in the nonprofit sector. My research interest lies in the intersection of art, social justice, and philanthropy -- which is a continuation from my Masters thesis. I'm worried as I've been reading how competitive it is to get into the American Studies program at NYU. I was also a bit lost if I have to mention specific research by certain professors in the program that I find particularly interesting and also if I had to list names of professors I'd like to work with in the Statement of Academic Purpose. I know that some programs want you list potential advisors, but it seemed like NYU is more interested in hearing about the kind of work I'd like to do/career goals/and why NYU (which yes, can be because of a certain professor but it doesn't seem to be too concerned about that). Also, should I be reaching out to the professors or is that not really necessary? I'd greatly appreciate any kind of feedback/comments, thank you!!
  24. Hi there, so I am currently trying to apply to an MA program in Art History. Currently, I'm looking at NYU, Williams, Bard, UPenn, SAIC, and Columbia. I'm getting a bit nervous since my BA was in Anthropology with a minor in Classical Civilizations. My focus was in Roman and Greek Art so I did take a good amount of art history classes. The problem is I want to switch over to contemporary art with a focus on social movements. Is that going to be hard to achieve? Also would anyone happen to know any professors/programs that center on contemporary art with a focus on social movements? I know that NYU and UPenn seem to have pretty good professors and courses that have such focus, but was just wondering of more. Since first finding this site I keep on hearing a lot about Boston University and Courtauld. Thanks for the responses!
  25. I am struggling to find information about New York University's funding opportunities for students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program. Do they offer any funding in the form of scholarships, grants, research assistantships, graduate assistantships, etc?
