BS Electrical Engineering from country's top college graduated 2019 with one extra-year GPA 3.0 GRE (168 quant, 155 verbal, 3 analytical) 1 year research experience Decent Letters of recommendation TOEFL 113 No publications so far What kind of grad school can I target? Is it worth applying to U of Alberta in Canada? What can I do to improve my chances now? How can I build a stronger profile going forward?

My dream graduate school is Columbia's English and Comparative Literature program, mainly because their courses align with my research interests, and, from what I understand, they allow a wide range for exploration to those interested in comparing literature and other media forms. My grades, I believe, are fine. However, the school feels very out of reach because of my GRE scores. The last two times (yes, twice) I took the test I pulled average in everything except math (just barely met the average on that subject with 0 improvements the next time I tested). I have now been studying for the general and see some improvement, but I do not feel any more prepared for the exam--specifically regarding the English Literature Subject Test. If anyone has resources they recommend, I welcome them greatly.

I used to be a grad school applicant struggling with the whole application process, then I was lucky enough to get into the program I like and I've been studying here for a year. However, thinking about my life back in the day when I was using forums like The Grad Cafe, I still feel overwhelmed. 1. There are large amount of disorganized information here and you need to sort it out by yourself, which always spends a lot of time and energy. 2. There is a specified section for people to post admission result there. Going there and checking out people's admission status doesn't make it easier / faster for you to get your result. 3. Maybe emotional support for each other is important along the application road? Anyone want to say something about the reason why you come to the Grad Cafe and what information you found super helpful in here?

So I know this is hard to know but I mostly just want tips on where to head from here GRE: Have not taken it yet but practice testing in high 150's both right now. GPA: Overall and major GPA from 3.75-3.77 from UC Berkeley. 4.0 My last year if that matters. (CC transfer student though - GPA the same at both institutions). Experience: A lot of organizing experience will have two years of post-grad work experience by application time in non-profit work. Writing sample: 17 pages on On the Changing Role of Police Practices Targeting universities ranked 5-20. Mostly UCSD, UCLA, Berkeley, Duke, and maybe UofW in that order. 1 semester of research experience. 1-2 strong LORs and one mediocre one. Come from a low-income Latino background, fluent in Spanish, and want to focus on Latin American politics. Where should I focus my next 9 months of prep to best increase my chances? Improve my GRE scores? Get a research focused job? Thanks in advance. Scared to post Writing sample but if ya'll think I can get some good tips on ere without getting it stolen I will.
