  1. I'm applying for fafsa for a phd I'm starting this fall, and am planning on filing as an independent. The only thing I am nervous about is that I am planning on staying under their insurance, but I am under the impression that this is not an issue. I am also wondering about entering their demographics. While I'm living on my own dime, my parents are fairly well off and very educated (mom masters and dad PsyD), so I am wondering if this could somehow hurt my aid offerings?
  2. Hey everyone, I am about to join a PhD program in US this fall. I recently came across an Article about debt during PhD. The article mentions that the average grad school debt for Social Science PhD holders is $24,581, but it doesn't mention how students go into debt. My field is Social Sciences. Although I have been offered a tuition waiver and stipend for 5 years. Should I be concerned?
  3. Hello All, I have received the PhD admit to UCF EE program on the 3rd week of Feb, 2018. I am yet to receive the financial aid letter from them to process my I-20. Anybody else got the fin aid from the EE department or know what to do or how to proceed?
  4. I was recently accepted into a few graduate programs for speech-language pathology but am yet to hear about any sort of financial aid with the exception of NYU, who stated that I will not hear for another few weeks. Some of my acceptances were given over the phone or via email, with formal letters to follow yet I have not even received those yet so I am not sure what to expect. Is it standard to call each school to inquire about financial aid or should I know once I receive my admissions letter? Accepted: New York University, New York Medical, Hunter College,
  5. I have just received an offer from Columbia University in Mechanical Engineering Master of Science program. The thing is, I haven't received any financial aid. I am an international applicant and it will be extremely difficult for me to pay my tuition (about $46,500). The deadline to confirm my offer (by paying $1000) is 12th of March (they gave me only 13-14 days). I have emailed them to request reconsideration of my financial aid award (explaining my situation), but haven't received any reply. What should I do? Should I submit $1000 and hope that they will provide me financial aid
  6. Hey everyone! Columbia hopeful here! I was wondering if there was any here who has any information about Columbia and how they are with scholarships, grants, assistantships, and financial aid in general? I am hoping for a lot of money, but this wait is painful.
  7. Hi guys, I'm from Pakistan and am interested in pursuing a graduate policy degree abroad. Can you guys share a list of universities which are known to either give significant amount of scholarship/aid or have inexpensive base tuition rates, specifically for international students? Include universities from all over the world, but please do mention universities in the US as well. Also, is HKS known for giving aid/scholarship for its MPP program? And if so, how much? Thanks!
  8. Dear friends, I am stuck in a MAJOR dilemma and my life has been majorly messed up because of it. I would appreciate some responses urgently, as I have to make a decision as soon as possible. So I am a Pakistani student with a passion for policy and development, but still confused about what to specialize in. I completed my undergrad in June 2016 and have worked in an NGO in agriculture since (1 year). I applied to Cornell CIPA in Jan, 2017 and got in with a 40% tuition reduction. Because CIPA's base tuition is $34k, my per year tuition is $20k (which is very little compared to compe
  9. Was wondering if anyone has heard from Indiana University - Bloomington's SPEA about their merit based aid? I was accepted for an MPA / MAAA on 3 February. After a month and a half, I'm becoming more anxious as each day gets closer to March 15th (everything I've been told says that they'll finish allocating merit aid "by mid-March."). I e-mailed them on Friday just to inquire and they said, "Hi Sunsickclown, Thank you for your email! We are still in the process of allocating and awarding merit-based aid for our incoming class and will notify you if we are able to offer you an award. I hop
  10. Decided to move this here: Was wondering if anyone has heard from Indiana University - Bloomington's SPEA about their merit based aid? I was accepted for an MPA / MAAA on 3 February. 11. Hey all, For this masters program I have applied to, they have emailed me asking me to set up a new account with them so I can be eligible for financial aid. Does this mean they are going to accept me or am I just reading in to it?
  12. I've always wondered - do all acceptance letters come with details about what type of fellowship/stipend is being offered to you, or does that information come separate? What do you do if you want to compare offers but just one has financial details, and one doesn't, so you can't really make an informed decision?
