  1. Right now, I am choosing between the following for data science/analytics: -NYU: MS Data Science -Columbia: MS Data Science -USC: MS Applied Data Science -UChicago: MS Analytics -Northwestern: MS Analytics Having lived in the NYC area my entire life, I am leaning towards Northwestern/UChicago to try a new place. Any input specifically to which of these two programs (or any of them) might be better? I have looked extensively at both and think either would be great.
  2. Starting this thread for a friend who's applying to MSBA programs and anxiously waiting. We'd love to hear any updates anyone have on their applications!
  3. Has anyone received interview invitation for MIT MBAn (Fall 2021)? It seems like they sent out some interview invites last week, but I haven't gotten anything yet. Wondering if more interview invites are coming out in the upcoming week...

I want to understand how I should evaluate my chances of getting an admit with my profile/target the right universities. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

  6. Hey there, I'm curious about y'alls thoughts on degrees like Columbia's QMSS and UChicago's MACSS as compared to programs like UChicago MSCAPP, and CMU Heinz MSPPM-DA. The classes seem to be really similar between both sets of programs, but I'm getting the sense that QMSS and MACSS are more suited towards people looking to go on to PHDs, does that resonate with current/former students? I'm hoping to attend a program that sets me up to be a practitioner immediately after, and don't intend on pursuing a PHD. It also seems like the MSCAPP and MSPPM-DA can be encompass more city planning courses (demand modeling, spatial analysis) which is interesting to me. I was considering programs like Upenn MUSA and Northeastern/NYU Urban Informatics, but I'd rather attend a program that contains those planning elements as well as some more research/quant-heavy coursework. Any thoughts? Mainly, do you all agree that QMSS and MACSS are better suited for those looking for a PHD eventually? Thank you in advance
  7. I can't seem to find much about people applying to data science and analytics masters programs so I thought I'd start one myself. I'm super frustrating with not being able to find information on when decisions will be sent out, so I'm hoping find out if anyone has heard from anywhere. I've applied to: Chicago's MA in Computational Social Science Chicago's Masters in Analytics Georgetown's Masters in Analytics (focus in data science) Northwestern's MS in Analytics LSE Applied Social Data Science and Data Science masters programs I just found out yesterday that I've been accepted to UVAs masters in Data Science. Has anyone heard back from any of these schools??? Just for reference... Major: Psychology and Political Economy, minors in French and Mathematics GPA: 3.53 (4.0) psychology major 3.90 (4.0) GRE: 162 (81%) Q, 165 (96%), 4.5 AW Relevant Courses: Statistics for the Social Sciences, Econometrics, Linear Algebra, Multivariable Calculus, Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Learning Other things: As far as programming I have experience with R and SPSS and have basic knowledge of HTML, C++, and SQL. I'm in the process of publishing psychology research as first author, have leadership experience in my sorority and two other campus organizations, have been my psychology department's statistics and SPSS tutor since sophomore year, am part of both the psychology and economics honoraries, and spent a month at Oxford this summer taking two courses.
  8. Does anyone receive the interview invitation for Northwestern Master of Analytics?
  9. This is my first post to this site and I'm relatively new to the whole process. I'm graduating this coming may with a BS in Applied Mathematics and a Minor in Business Administration. My GPA was a 3.6, GRE scores are Q : 168 V : 153 AWA : 5. I have applied for programs at University of Denver, Depaul, UChicago, Columbia Data Science Institute, and USF and I'm working on several more. I've gotten into USF, Denver (which i don't plan on attending) and Depaul, I've interviewed with Columbia last Wednesday but I'm aware it may take another week or so to get a decision. I was a research assistant at K-State and helped publish a journal with several professors for a few of the years I was there and gave talks at several conferences. I'm having trouble deciding which program to choose so if I could get any feedback on the above programs I would appreciate it. I really want to attend Columbia but I might not hear back from them for a week and USF says I may lose my spot if I don't commit by 3/20. My reason for Columbia is they seem to offer a substantial amount of research opportunities. From my understanding USF doesn't have as many research opportunities as Depaul and Columbia because it's only a year long program compared to two years. Can anyone attest to the value of a two year program over a one year program? On top of that can anyone attest to the overall experience or what they've heard in regards to opportunities they've gotten at these institutions?
  10. Does anyone know when will NW Master of Analytics admissions team send out interview invitations? Thanks!
  11. Hi everyone I've worked as an analyst for 3 years and am fascinated by the application of statistics and related sophisticated algorithms by tech firms to drive business value. I want to deepen my knowledge base of the same via higher education. While researching programs, it appears to me that Analytics and Data science programs are sort of general purpose and don't go quite deep into the subject matter. Due to this I've been considering Statistics / Operations Research / Management Sci MS programs. Thoughts?
  12. Anyone still waiting for SJSU MS Data Analytics program? My status is still "referred to Grad department" like forever.... I got a msg on 5/1 that "According to our records, your file has been referred to the department. At this time your application is under department review. The Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations Office is not involved in this phase of the review and will not be able to provide any additional information about your status while you are referred to the department. We want you to know that we do not have specific updated information to provide because departments have a separate review process" just want to know if anyone got any news from them recently.....
  13. I have got admission from BGSU(Ph.D. in Data Science) and CMU (MS in Applied Statistics & Analytics) Which one should I go for? I am referring to learning and future job opportunities. Thanks
  14. Hi Everyone, I have been admitted into UT Austin's MSBA and Duke's MQM program but I'm unable to decide which one would be better. Any thoughts?
  15. Hi Everyone, I've been asked to interview for Masters in Analytics at Northwestern. Can someone throw light on following question: 1) General format of interview 2) Highly technical? 3) Resume and past projects based? 4) Will they be checking my maths and programming knowledge. (Scared coz I'm a little out of touch) This is my first ever interview and I don't want to screw it up as this program is my dream univ. P.S - I reached out to previous students but no luck there. P.S - Went through threads of Masters interview but could not find a relevant one.
  16. Hi guys. I know this might seem a little too soon as I have barely seen any other discussions happening on Fall 2020. But I have finally narrowed down to this course and I wanted to see if anyone else has started to shortlist schools for MS Business Analytics/MS Analytics. For now, I have referred to the QS ranking list to see which universities would be a good fit for my profile. Please do share your progress on this post. Let us all get through this nerve wracking one year together!
  17. Hello everyone, I am applicant from India wanting to apply for Masters program in Data Science/Data Analytics/Computational Chemical Engineering. 18. Hi All, Anyone applying for the NCSU Master of Analytics program this year (2018). How long does it take to get an update after we submit the application?
  19. Hi- I've been out of undergraduate for about 2 years now and working professionally in the business/IT field and I was accepted to do a Fulbright ETA (English Teaching Assistantship) in Europe which is something I was really interested in but wasn't sure if I'd get it given my background. However, now it's a reality and I'm faced with a dilemma. I'm not passionate with the career/field I'm in now as I'd like to get into doing analytics/data work so I applied to a few very competitive grad schools and only got into one of my back up schools for the upcoming 2019 year. I'm not crazy about the program I was accepted to as I was interested in one with a better curriculum and opportunities for jobs in data science. I can defer it up to a year as well. I know the Fulbright scholarship is very prestigious and recognized in the US but do you think it will help my chances of getting into a better school/program/job the following year after my Fulbright? I'm hoping to take advantage of my ample free time (which I don't have too much now with my current job) with the Fulbright to devote time and focus to take relevant classes in the field I'm interested in, do a research project, or even pursue an related internship to stand out on future grad/job applications. Overall - I'm looking to see what everyone thinks about Fulbright/grad school. My current company is a large corporate firm with global opportunities but I'm just not heading in the career direction I want to. If I forgo to the Fulbright grant, I could try to do work FT and go to school part time but I'm just not sure how happy I'll be as I'd want to be dedicated full time in the studies but that would also be more of a financial burden for me to go to school FT. I think the Fulbright ETA would be a terrific experience and I'd develop a lot of valuable skills and intl experience but I just don't know how helpful/useful teaching English and the prestige of the program would be for my long term career goals (and if it'd hurt me in the professional world). I would love to hear thoughts from the community.

  21. I got admit by the MS in Analytics program at Georgia State U with GA and tuition waiver. I couldn't find much information about this program. I'm an international student, so I will need sponsorship to work after graduation. Is this program a good one? It has good courses and high placement rate, but I'm still not sure if Atlanta is a good place to develop career in the data field. By the way, I also have admissions from the MSDS program at U of San Francisco, and MS-MIS at Texas A&M, anyone can share come comments on these three programs? Thanks.

  25. Hi I wanted to get an idea from people who are also applying to Masters in Analytics programs in US for courses starting in Fall of 2107. I know it is a bit early and most applications have just started but I wanted to understand what kind of colleges I could target considering my profile which I detailing below Undergrad Institution: Middle of the pack Engineering College (India) Major(s): Electronics and Communication Minor(s): GPA in Major: 4 Overall GPA: 3.4 Position in Class: Top Type of Student: International - female Grad: MBA in HR - one of top 5 B Schools in India, Class Rank: Top 5, GPA: 3.9 GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q: 165 V: 165 AWA: 4.5 TOEFL Total: 115 Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Have close to 10 years of experience in Retail process improvement and Management Consulting My top choices for schools are: Columbia: MS Applied Analytics UChicago: MS Analytics University of Texas Austin: Masters Analytics Univ of Southern California : MS Business Analytics Purdue Univ: MS Analytics Northwestern: MS Analytics If someone could help me out with the following: 1. Am I Ok to target these colleges or are they too much of a 'reach' for my profile? Please suggest some other colleges where I will have a better chance of getting admission 2. I am 35 years old, mid-career professional, will that be a disadvantage for me as median age for most of these programs is 25-28yrs and median work ex is 2.5 - 4 years. For instance Duke Univ has clearly mentioned that their program would not be a good fit for me. Thanks
