  1. What would your dream art university look like? • Studio Space • Art Business courses • Interdisciplinary art courses
  2. I've been looking into the MA programme at John Cabot University based in Rome, and I was wondering what people thought of it? If anyone has been through the programme or is looking into it as well? And if anyone disapproves then for what reasons?
  3. Does this exist? I felt like there should be a place where we can post on here (I know about the MFA draft facebook but that thing stresses me out.) So far I've been rejected by Ohio State and I still have pending: Michener, New Writers Project, Michigan, UMass Amherst, NYU, Brown, Houston. What about y'all?
  4. I didn't see any forums for performance studies PhD programs beginning in Fall 2018.... probably because I'm the only one overly excited to be posting this early! I'm applying to quite a few schools. Columbia and Northwestern are my top picks. Just hoping to find a few other friends who might want to drive themselves nuts with me on this forum for the next twelve months! Ha! I'd love to know where else you are all applying.
  5. Anyone here apploed for daad fine arts scholarship? Or anyone who avail it?
  6. Task: Nations should suspend government funding for the arts when significant numbers of their citizens are hungry or unemployed. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain Essay: In the capitalist era there has been a growing in the inequalities among populations of western nations. The pareto rule of wealth people being wealthier and the poorest being poorer through the time has put on the table the discussion about reinvestment of public budget in order to develop more equality societies. However, there is a lack of information in taking decisions for cutting budget in cultural areas, instead of, developing sustainable strategies for promote economical and cultural development. In that reason, is that I consider that governments should not suspend funding of cultural purposes in order to give money to hungry and unemployed citizens. There is no guarantee of taking the money dedicated to funding for the arts will solve the problem of hungry or unemployed citizens. The nations that have problems regarding to hungry citizens or unemployed tend to have different social problems that reinforce the inequality problems. Therefore, taking money of funding for the arts won’t solve the social, health and economic disparities. Moreover, nations tend to assign a few percentage of its budget for cultural purposes, then, the amount of saved money won’t be enough for solving the problem. The government should consider its entire budget for controlling the investment in the different aspects that could develop its population safety. For appropriate purposes the government should plan an entire budget in which it considers the entire amount of money received and spent. After considering the entire scope of its economy, the government should produce and entire model of cost-benefits in reason to reinvest in the optimal way for minimizing its costs and maximizing the citizens benefits. For that reason, taking money of the arts funding without considering an appropriate methodology of reinvestment will be irresponsible. Instead of suspend funding for the arts, the government should plan a program that could promote appropriate and dynamic employs for helping hungry and unemployed people. Considering the methodological approach for the reinvestment the arts funding, the government should consider purpose program that won’t affect the arts workers meanwhile it will promote reduce the unemployment rates. In that way, a reinforcement cycle in which the unemployment citizens will be less, the amount of money that the last earn will be more and their families will have better life conditions could control the health and social disparities. In conclusion it is necessary that nations consider all the variables before suspend funding of cultural purposes, and with complex arguments the government could take assert decisions and make policies in reason to reduce hungry and unemployed citizens rates.
  7. A school that I like a lot, but that is not my top choice, is pressuring me to accept by April 1. However, I am still waiting to hear back from my top choice, and am currently waitlisted at my #2...if accepted at either of these schools, I would almost definitely immediately say yes (pending some financial considerations)...is it ethical to say yes to #3, knowing full well that I may change my mind very soon? I like all three schools very much, they all have strong programs in my field, and if I only get into #3, I will certainly go there.
  8. Dear all, My specialism is political thought and intellectual history. At top US institutions like Princeton and Harvard, would I have a greater chance of admission if I apply for PhD programs in history, or in political science? Which field is less competitive in top research universities? Thanks, Dem
  9. This is precisely what the title suggests. Invite everyone planning to apply for a master's course in the field of Music to share concerns, updates here. And I request everyone already enrolled in such programmes to help us out. @Musicologist I am personally confused between Musicology and Ethnomusicology and want to find out more about Music therapy as a programme. Any disussion around it is much appreciated!
  10. Is anyone applying to VCU for an MFA in Interior Design? An announcement was posted that all applicants were supposed to hear during the week of March 20th, and when I called that week, they said letters were already sent. But then I emailed the head of the department and she said " they are being sent in the near future"? I'm getting really anxious now and Im curious if anyone has heard back for the Fall 2017!
  11. Hi everyone, first off I apologize if this is not the right place for this topic or if it has already been discussed. I'm literally brand new, made the account today. A little about myself, I graduated from my undergrad this past december from Appalachian State University, a small school in the mountains of North Carolina. I moved to Albuquerque NM to take a year off and build new work in solitude. My plan is to apply for a graduate program in painting this upcoming cycle. I am a little overwhelmed with all the options, and need some advice on how to REALLY research a program besides reading through each program's website and sending emails. I am really looking for a school that gives their students the direct attention we deserve for committing so much time and effort into a unpredictable business. I really do want to go to a school with a good reputation, but that's not my primary motivation, however, there is something to be said from having a good reputation. A lot of my work comes from my interest in literature and philosophy, which ends up having a lot of representational abstraction. Any help would be wonderful! If any of this sounds good to you let's stay in touch!
  12. I'm an international student majoring art and design, mostly digital arts. I can do UI/UX works but I'm more into exhibitions and media arts. I love school!!! I hate working!!! Getting my BFA from a small/unknown art school in LA in May 2017. My mom just told me that it'd been too much pressure to support my education, my lil sister's going to high school this year, boarding school costs a lot. So she wants me to either apply for funding or just work. Last year I got a chance to talk to an art instructor from MIT (introduced by friends of my parents), and he wrote me a recommendation letter for MIT's media lab(fully funded)!!! Well, I guess it's more like a dream to me, I know it's super hard to get in, and there were only a few (or none) of them are fresh college graduates - most of the admitted students have tons of working experience and awards. And I'm like no one. So I got rejected email this weekend. I planned to apply to UCLA Media Arts too, but guess what? I had a car accident during the last week of the deadline in January, so I totally missed the chance. missed the chance. Now what? I'm out of choices, I have to wait for another year and think about more realistic and affordable programs. I'm 23 now, and I'm so frustrated since OPT(working visa for international students) is becoming even harder, I can't live on my own, feeling like a trash... but still, I hope anyone who has similar experience like me, never give up the chances of getting higher education, it means much more than a degree.
  13. Hey all, I am looking to see how likely I am to get into the following schools with the following criteria. I feel like I am fitting in somewhere around the average requirements of most applicants at these schools, with maybe a slightly lower GPA. GPA: 3.3 from a small liberal arts school in Ohio GRE: 161 V and 159 Q with 5.0 Analytical Writing Experience: 3 campaign cycles as an intern/volunteer (since '08), 3 campaign cycles as a paid staff in field management and data analytics; 1 year in nonprofit fundraising; 3 months interning with a lobbying firm in D.C.; Only 2 years of work experience after completing my undergrad (I took a semester off to work on the 2012 Presidential campaign) and volunteered/interned throughout college on various local, state, and national races in digital and organizing related work. I am applying/have applied to the following schools: Duke Sanford (MPP), Chicago Harris (MPP), Syracuse Maxwell (MPP), UT-Austin (MPA), Georgetown McCourt (MPP), NYU Wagner (MPA), OSU John Glenn (MPA), USC Price (MPA), IU SPEA (MPA). Thanks!
  14. Hello all! I have applied to the Master of Arts- child study and education at OISE, and was wondering if anyone had received interviews offers yet? (to start school in 2016 fall) The waiting is making me extremely anxious... especially since I thought I had a good chance of being accepted
  15. Afternoon, I'm Chel, and the first thing I have to say is a quick confession - I'm not planning to go to grad school! Rather, I come to absorb knowledge, perhaps seek advice, and hopefully strike up a few conversations with like-minded folks. If I'm unwelcome here because of my lack of interest in formal education, feel free to direct me somewhere else. Take two. I'm Chel. I'm an independent music journalist, fresh to the industry, hoping to be published by a publication outwith my own shortly. I also have several (music) book ideas circulating my mind, although they're all quite grand-scheme projects, and I'd need advances for them to be able to afford the research and travel, which no decent publisher would give to somebody with no experience in books. My pieces focus on iconic figures in the music industry, but also on resurrecting the work of brilliant yet forgotten artists - my most recent published piece was on the band responsible for Britain's first independently-released punk LP, and a heavy influence, lyrically and stylistically, on, amongst others, Joy Division, the Manic Street Preachers, and Echo and the Bunnymen; however, time has passed them by. (The Outsiders - the LP in question is "Calling on Youth".) Er. I'm not certain where to take this post from here without shamefully plugging my work. So - over and out from Chel. If you have any interest in my work, or would like to co-author or sub-edit for an independent music website, don't hesitate to get in contact.
