  1. I'm thinking about applying for grad programs outside of the US. Has anyone had experiences or sucess with this? What are some good programs to consider?
  2. I was wondering if anyone else out there is enrolled in/applying for grad programs for Religion programs with focus on SE Asia or vice versa? I am applying for master's programs for Fall 2020 and also summer language programs like SEASSI and the IU Language Workshop. I know I didn't cast my net as wide as I should have, but I am applying for Cornell's Asian Studies M.A., Wisconsin-Madison's M.A. in Southeast Asian Studies, and Syracuse's M.A. in Religion. I am also applying for FLAS funding for both of those schools. I am very nervous about how competitive the programs are, not mind-blowingly
  3. Greetings, I have recently been accepted to an MS/PhD program at КАUST and am trying to decide if I should go there. The professor and the group's research look great to me, they moved there very recently from a top 20 uni (their motivation was that КАUST provides much better funding, they don't have to apply to any grants and have nearly unlimited travel funds, more time and freedom for research, etc.). Judging by the current PhD students and a discussion with the professor, I think there are great prospects to do some amazing research and publish in top conferences during my
  4. Hi everyone! It's beginning to look a lot like application season again and I've been wondering if there's anyone else out there applying to East Asian Studies programs? There must be, right?! I'm starting to get nervous (and excited) and would love to hear from others going through the same ordeal. I'm sure we'll all need to commiserate at some point, perhaps early and often My research interested are focused on pre-modern/medieval Japanese history and religion. The programs I'm most interested in are at Harvard, Columbia, University of Chicago, and possibly UBC. I'm also trying to n
  5. Hello, everyone. We have reps from the Schwarzman Scholars program coming to my school later this month. According to their website, they pay for your tuition for a one year master program at Tsinghua University in Beijing. I know of Tsinghua as being a top university in China (I've heard it being compared to their version of MIT for excelling in STEM), so as far university brand, it sounds compelling, but I've never heard of this program. They have Michelle Obama and previous US Secretary of States all over their page. Any thoughts?
  6. Another one of those long-time "lurkers," first time poster. Is anyone else deciding between SIPA and SAIS, or have suggestions for the pros + cons list? Although I'm doing a Asia/South Asia concentration, I'd appreciate any insights regarding the programs as a whole. One of the things I'm most curious about is about how folks here measure the programs' prestige. Although that won't be the defining factor, I still am not completely sure how to assess the "ranking" of the programs, outside of the TRIP/FP study from last year. Thanks in advance for your help!
  7. Hello all, Just wondering if anyone has heard of this program/went to the program/know something about it. I'm thinking of applying as "safety" school, obnoxious term, but it seems like a strong program if a little-less famous. Or it could be famous and I am ignorant. The link is here: http://irps.ucsd.edu/index.htm Merci~
