  1. Hello guys, I have received admits from UniMelb and ANU Business School for a graduate program in Accounting. I am confused between them and want to know more about each of the business school's than the university! I know little bit about both Canberra and Melbourne. The size of the city does not really matter as long as the programs are good and have something to offer. Thanks! ;)
  2. I was wondering if anyone can help me. I am graduating grad school soon with a major in Speech-Language Pathology. I am looking to do my clinical fellowship year abroad in Australia; however, I need to be under the supervision of an SLP who is ASHA certified so that I can get my CCC. I contacted both ASHA and SPA but both organizations do not keep track of SLPs in Australia who are ASHA certified. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to find an SLP in Australia who is ASHA certified? I would greatly appreciate any information about this!
  3. Hey guys, I have received an offer from the University of Melbourne for their Masters of Speech Language Pathology to start in Feb 2019. I'm planning to return to work in Canada (Alberta) afterwards so I'm wondering if anyone else has gone this route? Based on the course information I've found on their website and comparing it to the registration requirements here it looks like I'd be short some hours. I don't want to spend 2 years and a lot of money on the degree if I won't be able to practice here afterwards! If anyone has gone through this process I'd love to hear how it went for you. I'm thinking of applying to the Canadian schools because it will be easy to get licensed, but because of the time lines I'd have to give up my Melbourne offer to apply here. I know it's crazy competitive here so I'm worried about getting in!
  4. Hey everyone ? I'm an international student who has been accepted in a university in the US (PhD program) with a fellowship for the first year, & then an assistantship. I'm considering also application for a scholarship in an Australian university this July, which has a research center that I'm highly interested in. However, the results of Australian apps only appear in the start of the American academic year, whence I will probably have started my PhD in the American university. I'm asking if it would be possible, or bad to leave that American university (after I started there, with a fellowship) if I get accepted in the Australian program that I prefer? I highly need your advice, please, because I'm very confused. Have anyone passed through a similar experience before?
  5. Hello everyone,,, Now I got accepted with an assistantship offer into a university in America. Still, this university is not my favorite option. So, I'm thinking about also applying to the Japanese government scholarship (next May), & to an Australian university that has a research center which I'm highly interested in its research (next July). But since I can't guarantee that I'll get accepted into any of these two scholarships, & I don't want to waste a year of my life, so I will meanwhile go to the American university, & start to prepare to travel there. & the results of the two Japanese & Australian scholarships appear after the start of the academic year in America! However I I'd like your opinion about whether to go ahead & apply also to those two scholarships, especially two questions: 1) While starting my academic year in the American university, if I find out that I got accepted in the Japanese or Australian scholarship, is it possible to leave that university to go to the other one in either Japan or Australia? 2) Is it possible to do the visa procedures for traveling to Japan or Australia inside the US, although I'm Egyptian & not American?
  6. Hello everyone! I am - an Indian Chartered Accountant - 3 years of internship and 8 months of professional work experience - 78 % in Bachelor of Commerce I am confused between Masters of Management at University of Melbourne or at ANU which starts in February 2018. I have read a few other posts about Uni Mel vs ANU and still cannot make a decision clearly. I am aware of the reputation, rankings, location factors, etc. And as of now I am more inclined towards University of Melbourne mainly because of the city itself and the location of the university. Also, since I am a Chartered Accountant in India, I also intend to become a member of the Australian CPA Community. What are other factors which I should consider? Also, how are job opportunities for Masters + CPA at Canberra and Melbourne? Would be really glad if someone helped. Thanks & Warm Regards, GS
  7. Hi, I am thinking about applying to an Australian graduate program of Actuarial Science (or Actuarial Practice or similar). My GPA is 3 out of 4 in the American system (A, B, C, D, F, etc), how does this score correspond to the Australian system? Here are a few programs I am thinking about, with their entry requirements normally at around 5 out of 7 or 65% in the Australian system: http://programsandcourses.anu.edu.au/program/7420XMACTP http://courses.mq.edu.au/international/postgraduate/master/master-of-actuarial-practice https://www.business.unsw.edu.au/degrees-courses/postgraduate/masters/actuarial-studies#Entry-requirements https://www.study.monash/courses/find-a-course/2018/actuarial-studies-b6014#entry-requirements-2 Do you think my GPA can fulfill this overall requirement? Also, my GPA in the first two years was very very high, but in the last two years, it dropped quite a lot, for a variety of reasons combined. What should/can I do now, since I only have one semester left? Best and thank you all in advance, GPRW
  8. I've heard that applying mid year to Australian unis (for the semester that starts in late July, early August) is a bad idea, both for your chances of getting in and for getting a scholarship. Is there any truth to this?
  9. Hello. I have recently earned an A+ on my MA thesis. I also have professors willing to write good references. I had always assumed that if I did a PHD I would simply carry on here because my life is here. However, considering my grades, perhaps its worth a shot elsewhere - a better university where I could stand a better shot at getting a TT job afterwards. Can someone weigh in on these questions? 1. Is it reasonable to contact philosophy depts and scholarship offices in order to "shop around" for the best stipends/scholarship (I am somewhat worried at how arrogant this might seem). 2. Would an A+ on my MA and decent written references land me a real shot at a top ten (like Harvard or NYU) or is it naive to think grades matter - perhaps letters from advisors and writing samples matter more? How about the grades alone getting my into a top 20, (like Australian National Uni)? 3. I am older with a partner and dependent child. Does anybody know the best package for a guy like me? For example, ANU is tempting because of their scholarship amount, travel/moving allowance, and dependent-child allowance - but it doesn't cover fees. Auckland, on the other hand, covers fees and offers 27K. Any insights into these practical considerations would be much appreciated. If I was younger and less tied down, I suppose I'd just aim for the best schools with the most topic - relevant faculty (that is, potential advisor). But being older with a family makes this trickier. THANKS! David
  10. Hi, I have completed my undergrad in dentistry from India. I am interested in doing MPH. But I am unable to decide where to pursue it. I have read about unis, both in Canada and Australia. I know that the quality of education is similar in both countries. So can anyone tell me which country is a better choice to do mph, in terms of job prospects, salary and getting a pr? Further does an Australian education give you good job prospects in Canada? And is the vice versa true? I'm really confused about where to apply and appreciate any valuable insight.
