Relative to the other Biosciences Programs, is it true that Genetics is the most / one of the more competitive programs in Biosciences?
-
Dear all, New member here. I am thinking of applying to Rockefeller, and wondering if anyone here will be applying to their Biosciences PhD program this Fall? I would really appreciate any general information and advice about the application process from individuals who have already been accepted in previous years and how current applicants are preparing in general, as well as things like non-official GPA requirements (Current GPA is 3.3, it can be fixed but will be known after application deadline ... is it worth applying?). Many thanks in advance.

I heard that Stanford Biosciences is more competitive (acceptance rate wise) than its peer institutions, e.g. MIT Biology, Harvard Integrated Life Sciences (HILS), UCSF, GSK. Why so?

I am a second year microbiology student at UC-Riverside and am studying melanized yeasts found in biological crusts. Not a lot of students at my university even know about the NDSEG, and even less in my department, which is why it's so critical for me to look for other people who also applied in the Biosciences and were actually successful in achieving the honor. The NDSEG application seems very different than any of the other fellowships I have applied for and I am still confused.. is the first prompt only about 3,000 words and about my goals? From what I can tell the new website has been confusing a lot of people.. and it doesn't explicitly say 3000 words, but other online sources have mentioned this. Also, there really is no direction for the research prompt, how would I write this one? I understand that I need to pick one of the disciplines.. but in these fields which are more engineering heavy, how does one write a bioscience one that intrigues them? Any type of guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All - My spouse wants to attend the interview weekends/recruitment events with me. I am in total support of that because they will also be moving to our new home whenever I choose a school! Should I ask the administrator about providing us a single room in hotels, or should I even tell the schools that my partner will be coming? Obviously they won't be coming to the interviews or the social events with me, but they would like to see the city that we might be moving to and meet locals. It seems silly for me to even ask the administrators these types of questions because we are full-blown adults, but I just don't know the etiquette! Any input would be extremely helpful.
