  1. I am back with another question! This one is actually relevant to my immediate decisions rather than for applications a year+ in the future. Thanks for being SO consistently helpful, everyone. Did anyone here use a letter from a professor they did not take a class with/a professor who did not supervise them in any formal way? Was this successful? Does anyone not recommend doing so? I ask because I am about to start my 1-year MA and there is a particular faculty member I'm very interested in getting to know because his interests are strikingly similar to mine. I've read some of his wo
  2. All American universities publish on their websites the minimum requirements of their master programs. However, I can't find information about class restrictions for most universities, notably UCLA. Can a master student take more classes than the requirements of its program? Can students enroll in as many classes as they want? Can a student enroll in classes that do not belong to their department? For instance, can a EE student enroll in any CS classes?
  3. Hello, I applied for a PhD program and was accepted. I became pregnant after acceptance and had baby in fall so I took the first semester as mat leave which is unconventional but they accepted that. They are discussing with me whether I want to make it as a deferred acceptance to Winter or next Fall. Here is the problem. My university is in a different city. Years ago I was living there and finished 3 courses in that same program and left after for personal reasons. I have since moved to a near by city. I thought when I applied this time I would be able to travel for courses once o
  4. Hello! I am a first year entering a PhD program in Learning Sciences and Human Development. I am supposed to register for classes on the 5th, and I don't know what to take. Is this something I should discuss with my adviser? Thanks!
  5. So it is becoming apparent to me after 2 rejections that I may very well have to try to apply to grad school again at a later time. I was wondering if any of you had advice as to what to do if an individual was not able to get into graduate school straight out of undergrad? Did any of you apply to be an Speech Language Pathology Assistant? Also, if anyone has taken Post Bacc classes, do you have to apply in order to enroll into post bacc classes? Are you able to enroll into Post Bacc classes simply to boost your GPA?
  6. Hello, I'm a undergrad student and I'm still debating on whether to major in archaeology or bioarchaeology. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what classes to take for bioarchaeology other than anthropology classes. And what to expect if I want to major in bioarchaeology.
  7. Hi All, So im required to submit a course list of relavent classes (they explicitly ask for math, econ and politics courses and the application is for Woodrow Wilson MPA Public Policy) I was a history and sociology major... and took 1 math: precalc..... 2 econs: macro and micro and zero politics courses do you think i can 'stretch' some of my sociology classes into the math zone? namely social statistics (which was a stat course!!) and sociological research methods (data collection, analysis and preparing for thesis paper) help!!! thx DWD
