    Low GPA, Super Stressed Out

Hi! So the past few months for me have filled with endless stress and self doubt about applying to grad school and my future in general. I only applied to two schools because I didn't have much confidence that I would get in anywhere and didn't want to waste the money just to be rejected. I got rejected from University of Rhode Island and am currently waitlisted at LIU Post, which I'm actually shocked I even got waitlisted to be completely honest. As hopeful as I am that I'll get excepted, I know I need to be realistic. I have a 3.3 GPA, but with the way my grades are looking this semester, it's probably going to go down to a 3.2. I wanted to see if I could retake some classes in the summer to raise my GPA but my college doesn't let you retake classes to be factored into your GPA after you graduated. However, I could retake them as a nonmatriculated student, but it would make no difference in my GPA. Would grad schools even care if I did this? I was thinking about retaking anatomy because I got a C and I'm especially nervous about that being a CSD course, but I don't want to spend $1000 retaking it for grad schools not to even care. Anyway, does anyone know any ways I could increase my chances of getting accepted, or am I doomed because of my GPA? Am I even being realistic applying with a 3.2/3.3? And does anyone know of any backup plans/other career options with a bachelor's and CSD? I'm sorry this is so long, I'm so beyond stressed and none of my family or friends understand because to them, "I do have good grades". Thank you so much!!

    Low GPA/any advice?

Hi! So i have been super stressed during this whole application process. I only applied to 2 schools because i didn’t have much confidence i would get accepted anywhere and i didn’t want to spend a ton of money just to get rejected. I got rejected from one school and waitlisted at LIU Post. Even though I’m trying to stay hopeful about Post, i know my chances are pretty slim. I have a 3.3 GPA but the way my grades are this semester it’s probably going to be around a 3.2? Am i even being realistic about applying? My GRE scores, recs, and essay are all pretty average so i don’t even really have that going for me. I wanted to retake some classes in the summer to try and boost my GPA, but my school does not allow you to retake classes for a higher grade once you’ve graduated. However, i could take them as a nonmatriculated student, but the grade would not replace my old one. Is it even worth it to do this? I was thinking of retaking anatomy because i got a C and I’m nervous because it’s a CSD course, but if grad schools wouldn’t even care then I’m not going to waste the money. Does anyone have any advice on ways to stand out more or any kind of back up plan? I’m so stressed that I’m not even excited about graduating. None of my family or friends understand because to them “i have good grades” (for any other major i would!) any advice is appreciated! And if you actually read this whole thing, thank you so much!
  4. So I got accepted to FSU's online distance learning program for my masters in speech-language pathology. I haven't heard much about it. This is my first and only acceptance (I'm still waiting to hear from the others) Does anyone have reviews or heard anything from people currently in the program? Thanks!

    SLP in waiting

Has anyone heard/know when we should hear from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Midwestern AZ and Midwestern IL? Thank you and good luck to everyone!
  6. Hi! I was accepted to UNH the beginning of February. In the acceptance letter they explain how they will be making decisions for assistantships within the month. So I'm assuming that could include the month of March too since they accepted people throughout the month of February. Anyways, I've been anxiously awaiting to hear back since I think that would be an amazing opportunity. Obviously, they only have so many spots so I was thinking to make this forum to see if people have been offered such a position/if they accepted it. I'm hoping I have a shot! Thanks! Good luck to everyone applying to grad schools!!
  7. Hello! I am in the process of making my graduate school decision and cost is a huge factor for me. Has anyone received any news of funding from UNCG?
  8. Hi Everyone! I'm curious if anyone has been offered admissions to a school and then heard at a later date about funding or assistantships. I was accepted back in February. The acceptance letter said they are making decisions about it within the next month. So far, I haven't seen anyone accept or get offered any funding. But I feel like I just want to know now and I'm sick of waiting. So I'm looking for advice, do you think it would be bad if I call and as if they gave them out yet? Need help because I'm going crazy waiting haha! Anyways, I am talking about UNH. However, this may apply to other schools as well! Send me in your thoughts and advice!

  10. For those of you who applied to Adelphi University, I spoke with an admissions counselor and she stated that first round is under review and we should receive a notice in the mail in 1-2 weeks (probably 2 weeks)!

    Should I retake my GRE?

I'm a senior applying to graduate schools for Speech Pathology. My major is Health Sciences with a concentration in Communication disorders. I took my GRE and I got a 142 Verbal, 152 Quant and 3.5 writing. I know my scores are very average and I don't know if I should retake them. The minimum for all my schools is 140 Verbal and 152 Quant. My GPA is a 3.6 and I feel my essays are good and my letters will be good. My resume is really packed- I have over 1,000 service hours at many different locations, shadowing hours, I worked at an AAC communication camp, I am the President of a service organization and on the state board for the same organization, I help run the $40,000 Relay for Life event at my school and am on the committee for planning our annual "Day of Service". I also have research experience with a Speech Professor and am a part of NSSHLA on campus and have started an initiative for VocalID in our club. Do you think I should retake my GRE or do you the rest of my application will balance it all out? Thanks for the advice
  12. HIII everyone! So a bit of me.... I graduated a year ago and got rejected from 8 schools, so I decided to get my SLP-A license and I've been working for a year in Texas. I have a overall GPA of 3.1, CSD 3.2, upper CSD 3.46, last 60 3.4 and upper division gen is 3.5. MY gre scores are 150V and 145Q and I'm retaking it in a month, cause I know they are terrible!! I have a list of schools that I may potentially fit in their ranges and I need advise! or even suggestions
  13. I read on the University of West Georgia's program page that all three letters of reccs. must come from professors/ academia. I graduated, and I can count on 2 professors to write my letter of recc. ( not sure about the third due to not hearing back from her). I've attended the open house for other programs, and when asked about using a Speech- Language pathologist for the third letter of recc., the program director said that it was acceptable ( as long as two letters of recc were from academia). Can anyone currently in the program verify this? Are there any CSD pre-reqs. that must be completed prior to applying to Nova's online program?
  14. Hi, everyone. I just wanted to know what the GRE scores of people who were accepted into programs such as University of South Carolina (ONLINE), Eastern New Mexico(HYBRID), University of Georgia, and University of West Georgia. My stats: 153 V (60th percentile), 4.0 AWA,,and 144 Q; Overall GPA 3.67; last semester GPA 4.05; CSDCAS CSD ;GPA 3.67. The GRE scores you see above are from taking it twice. I have leadership experience as a NSSHLA officer, working with students who have autism, and also observation hours in different settings. This will be my 2nd time applying, and I am just really nervous because at first I was placed on the wait list at my alma mater, but they didn't use it this year. So, I'm going to reapply. However, I want to show the committee that I really tried to improve and gain more exposure to the field. I'm looking at more programs this time around and trying to get a realistic idea of if I have a chance of getting in somewhere. I'm noticing that some schools say they require a certain GRE/GPA range on their website and ASHA Edfind but then I see people in the results forum with stats way below it getting accepted. I'm happy for them. I just want to know how that works. I already signed up to take the GRE again just to see if I could increase my verbal score to 160 and AWA to 5.0 even though others have told me that I should just focus on getting more outside experience at this point. This would be the last time that I take it because I don't want to keep stressing on the GRE as if it's the only component of my application. Any tips? Thanks in advance!
  15. I am having a difficult time choosing between Ohio State and Kent State. From what I can tell just from the websites, Ohio State's program lets you develop a focus whereas Kent State's program is more general (I may be incorrect about this). If anyone has any thoughts on the programs or just the schools themselves, I would love to hear! Also, anyone who has accepted their admission to one of these schools, I'd like to hear what factors influenced you to make that decision. Thank you!
  16. Does anyone have any input on what they like/dislike about the programs or just the schools in general?
  17. Hey guys, Has anyone heard when decisions from TC will be released?
  18. Has anyone been accepted to FSU's distance learning program and attending or currently attend? I'd like to hear more about the program and possibly get in touch with other students starting this fall!
  19. Applied to 12 schools for Fall 2016, rejected at 10, waitlisted at 2 (which will not give me any info still about when they will expect to know. I'm about to take myself off the waitlists at this point it's ridiculous). CSD GPA post bacc is a 3.7, undergrad is 2.5. I have no experience in the field since I stayed at my old job for money after making the decision to go back to school. It paid well enough for me to pay post bacc and grad school fees. I also wanted to devote all my time to raise my GPA this year. And I'm pretty sure that I did a damn good job. Had decent LORs and statement of purpose read by several grad students/Ph.D. Students/professionals both in the field and outside. Is applying to Spring admissions worth it? There's a small list I made of schools that have a spring semester cohort as well as fall. Is it less competitive? Or is it better to build my resume and apply again for the fall? This whole process is SO expensive I would only apply to 5 schools max for spring. But after getting rejected from 12 schools this fall, I am going to have to up the amount to like 30 next year! Ha!!
  20. Looking for roommates starting Fall 2016 in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Masters program at the University of Central Florida! I really want to live with 2 or 3 others in the program, and any gender is fine with me. I'm very neat and clean and would love to have roommates going through the program with me.
  21. Hi! Just reaching out to meet other people who got accepted to Georgia State's CMSD grad program. Anyone know if a facebook page has been set up yet?
