  3. I am accepted into 2 PhD programs. My research interest is in Image Processing. So, keeping that in mind I have applied to research programs focusing on biomedical image processing as well as computer vision. I have got one offer from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center UPMC (collaboration with CMU) in the bioengineering department and the other one from UCSB in the ECE department. Both are prestigious in their respective departments. Now I am struggling a lot with my decision. Any suggestions/advice?
  4. Hi All, Each year we organize a Summer School for senior undergraduate students. This year, the four-day fully-catered event will be from July 3rd until July 6th, inclusive. The Summer School will consist of wide-ranging talks on the theory and applications of data analytics & visualization given by program faculty and industry experts. This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to learn about cutting-edge research in the big data science and network with subject matter experts and fellow students from other countries. We are inviting applications from exceptional students worldwide. The event is free to attend, and moreover, the successful applicant’s travel and accommodation expanses will be covered by the program. For more information or to apply, please visit http://www.lassondecreatedav.ca/ About the CREATE DAV Program The program is a multi-institution, multi-sector collaboration between York University (the lead institution), OCAD University, Concordia University and the University of Toronto, together with a number of leading Canadian high-tech companies in Toronto and Montreal focused on applications in cloud computing, digital cultures, health technology and smart cities. The goal of the DAV program is to provide opportunities for exceptional graduate students (MSc and PhD), undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Students accepted into the program will receive highly competitive financial stipends and enhanced training from a collaborative group of internationally known subject matter experts in the field of data analytics and visualization in a broad range of application areas. 6. I am looking for 1-2 school suggestions that might be possible for me to get into. My profile : B.Eng in Computer Systems Engineering - 2:2 i.e 3.0 GPA Worked 2 yrs as a trader so unrelated field but was fairly successful at the job. Msc in Computer Vision, Distinction Perfect(4.0)GPA GRE : - Q:162, V:157 : A: 4.5 Not very impressive overall I understand. I am looking for decent schools not aiming for the top ( although I am applying to two top schools just coz Ill kick myself if I didn't even try) My area of research interest is in Biometrics( Face/expressions) and Surveillance/Human behavior analysis. 7. Hey Everyone, I need help choosing which university to go to! I narrowed it down to Gatech and Penn (University of Pennsylvania) from the following list: Gatech, Penn, USC (Southern California), Wisconsin-Madison, Columbia, Brown, Rutgers Interest: Computer Vision and Deep Learning Cost Restrictions: None. I am willing to figure out how to pay if the university is worth going to. Goal: Planning to do a PhD after my masters. Therefore, I plan to do a lot of research during my MS. I was able to narrow down to these 2 universities based on professors and research done at these places in CV. I am leaning towards Gatech but I'd like to hear some advice from others on future prospects of getting into good PhD programs from either school. Also, let me know if you think I should consider any of the other schools on the list. Thank you in advance!

  9. My interests area are computer vision and robotics. I have four admits for MS CS. I would want to work in some RnD department in the field of computer vision after my graduation. 1) Northeastern University at Boston 2) Washington University in St. Louis (MS fellowship, research inclination) 3) Rochester institute of Technology (40% Scholarship) 4) SUNY Buffalo
  10. This is a similar post. But my situation is a bit different. First of all, I am very afraid of coldness, so is the winter in CMU that intolerable? especially compared with Stanford. Second question, (a large question) I am interested in research, Computer vision and deep learning. I want to pursue a PhD (at CS top 4 schools) and do not want to work after my masters program. And I do not have any interest in startups. CMU MS Robotics is a research program, so that applying a phd would be easier? (I am not sure about this point). But Stanford MSCS is a general program. It seems that its course load is heavier than CMU. As mentioned in the above post, is it true, that CMU would treat its masters student better? Anyway, it's an old post and I think Adamah has a different research interest. Stanford has less faculty than CMU, and many of its faculty is engaged in industry. So my Stanford PoI's group is usually very large, about 20 people. Would that make an MS student get less attention? Considering the weather, I would probably go to Stanford, but is it that hard to be admitted from a top 4 university after the Masters program, a PhD in Computer Vision and Deep Learning? I will appreciate all of your opinions!
  11. I have received admits from NCSU and ASU for the MS Fall 2017 program in Electrical Engineering. I wish to specialize in Signal and Image Processing with Computer Vision. I would like to know in comparison to these two universities, which amongst them is better and how so? The ranking amongst these two are almost one and the same and I dont really care about the rankings. I would like to know with respect to the courses offered in this specialisation, research done, availability of funding and the job opportunities. Thanks in advance

  13. I currently have two admits for Masters in Computer Science from University of Central Florida and Stony Brook University. Where Stony Brook has a highly ranked Computer Science Department, UCF has a reputed Computer Vision Department led by Professor Mubarak Shah but its ranking is not so good. I am in a fix right now and unable to decide between the two universities. It would be extremely helpful if anyone could help shed light on this and help me decide better.
