  1. I finally settled in what I want to do after my undergrad degree which is a masters in counselling. After numerous hours of research trying to find a silver lining in this dire situation of mine, I finally accepted the fact that my inadequate GPA (3.2) and lack of research lab experience is not competitive enough to join this race. What I do have is 400 hours of experience working with people living with disabilities (physical, cognitive, and psychiatric) and another 400 hours to be completed this coming school year (my 5th year in psychology). Alongside completing the additional 400 hours this coming september-april, I will also be completing required courses to finish my program. Basically, I want to retake some courses that I didn't do so well in, take other courses to bump my GPA, and gain more research experience. My 5th year is already swamped with things I need to do, therefore I will need a sixth year to accomplish the abovementioned. In conjunction with the shame of needing a sixth year, I am worried whether needing six years to complete my undegrad will have any effects on my chances of getting into masters in counselling in Canada? Any tips or insight will help this stressed avocado. (Additional info if necessary: After my degree, I'm hoping to apply to MA (ED) counselling psychology in University of Ottawa, but beggars can't be choosers)
  2. Hi everyone! I am currently finishing off my undergrad with a pending application for University of Ottawa's MA(ED) counselling psychology program for Fall 2018 admission. With the results coming out slowly, I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions I have about the program and the admission procedure. 1. Do they conduct interviews before sending out offers to potential candidates? In the results search section, it seems like people never do pre-admission interviews. 2. Has anyone received offer of admission from this program? 2. What exactly happened to their PhD program? On the website it just says admission to the PhD program will be suspended until further notice. 3. How would it look for other schools if I finish this program and apply for their clinical/counselling programs (masters or doctorate)? 4. Any other general tips?
  3. This topic is intended to share info and newz about FALL 2018 applications for Master's or PhD exclusively for CANADIAN institutions, either domestic or int'l applicants. I am a domestic Canadian applicant , non-native speaker, and applied for Master's in Education, concentration in Counselling and PhD in Counselling. I have already MA and PhD but not in Canada/US. GPA: BA ( Psych): 8.1/10 ; MA: 9.1/10 ; PhD: B- Publications: yes ; work experience: yes ; research experience: yes OISE (University of Toronto) - PhD in Counselling status: APPLED Western Ontario University - Master's in Education ( Counselling) status: APPLIED UNBC- Master's in Education ( Counselling) status: APPLIED UVic - Master's in Education ( Counselling) status: APPLIED
  4. Hey there! This topic invites all of us Education ( counselling) Masters applicants to vent and talk about our expectations. Any news from the front? If not, what are your real expectations? good luck y'all !
  5. Master's programs in clinical psych tend to be research-oriented and focused on preparing students for doctoral training. Is anyone aware of master's programs that are applied/terminal programs that allow you to become licensed as a professional counsellor or psychological associate? I know of one, which I am currently enrolled in but am curious to see whether there any similar programs out there. Sidebar: I know that a master's in clinical mental health counselling is the alternative to clinical psychology programs for those who aren't interested in research; however, I'm focused on clinical psych programs that give you both the option of terminating or advancing to a phD.
  6. Has anyone applied for the Master of Education program at Thompson Rivers University for counselling?
  7. Hello! Somehow, this year, no one seems to have started a Canadian Thread for applicants for Clinical and Counselling Psychology. I figured, I would start! Applied to: University of Manitoba (Clinical), Queen's (Clinical), McGill (Counselling), New Brunswick (Clinical) and Wisc-Madison (Masters/PhD - Counseling) No, news yet except for Wisc-Madison PhD - rejected, but one of my referees didn't put in my reference in time (a week after the deadline) Let's start talking because I think we all need an outlet and to find out from each other what is happening in the world of invites, acceptances and rejections. (PS, if someone does know about another link - 'cause I cannot find my fellow applicant peers)
  8. Hi folks! I need advice! Can anyone give me some pros and cons to these 2 programs?: The University of Windsor Child Clinical Track OISE Counselling and Clinical Psychology I have my own pros and cons but don't want to list them because I want some fresh ideas for you guys I'm just confused about OISE's program because I'm not sure how much of an emphasis is put on the counselling aspect and therefore compensating for the clinical work and training. I'm also concerned about how limiting the child stream is at Windsor and if this will restrict any future work with adolescents or adults? Please - any thoughts are much appreciated!! I'm not sure how else I can ask for their opinion! Thanks Congratulations to all who have heard back and goodluck to those still waiting! 0
  9. Hi! Has anyone else applied to U of Toronto's OISE Masters in Counselling Psychology program? If yes, have you heard anything yet? There aren't any postings on the results page, but there haven't been many in previous years either. My application status is still "under review", but I'm not reading too much into this as my application status to the same program last year didn't change to "decision made" until my application to the program THIS YEAR turned to "under review". Sick of the waiting, blahhh. Thanks!
