  1. I want to go into the SLP program but I need to do a Post Bacc before I can get in. I’m worried for so many reasons and I’m losing sleep over it.. First, I am not a science or math person. I was never good at science and it is my weak point. I am a Junior in Undergrad right now and I am something like an Educations major because I thought about the teacher route until I found out about SLP. I would always avoid the hard science classes during undergrad because I was so afraid to get Cs and Ds or even fail. My gpa is not very competitive.. due to personal reasons I couldn’t do well in my freshman and Sophomore year. During my Junior year and Sophomore year, I have gotten 99% As though. by the time I graduate I will have around a 3.3 ~ 3.4 which when I read from so many forums doesn’t seem to be good enough and I will be rejected everywhere I apply. I’m terrified because I never did well in science and math and I know that the SLP program is very science heavy and I’m so scared that I won’t pass any of the classes required in the program and even for the post bacc. I know I have to get a good GPA for post bacc to even pull myself up as a good candidate to be considered but I’m so scared that those science courses will pull me down. I want to go into the SLP program but I’m so torn and stressed even thinking about it... My parents and their friends in SLP tell me that the studying is manageable and it isn’t that hard but I think they’re just very smart people and it stresses me even more. I’m stressing over the GRE too because I’m not that smart and although I will study and try hard, I don’t know if I can get a good score that fits the program standards. I live in LA and I don’t want to go out-of-state because not only can I not pay for it, I don’t want to go that far away and I want to stay near home.. I do want to do SLP... Can I get some advice?
  2. Hi all! Unfortunately this round of applications wasn't in my favor, so I plan to take the rest of the year to strengthen my application. One avenue I was thinking of taking would be retaking some CSD courses (mainly neuroscience and phonetics) because they were my weak points in undergrad CSD courses, along with some general requirement courses (physics). I've seen many people highly recommend schools such as ENMU for leveling courses, but I've also noticed that some say they're receiving a second CSD BA. Would anyone who has more knowledge of this be able to enlighten me before I go all in? I'm also curious if you've gone this route to strengthen your app, how did it work out for you? Is it worth doing? Any advice is greatly appreciated! I'll do just about anything to be a stronger candidate!
  3. Hello! I was accepted to the CSD Master's program at Teachers College Columbia University. It is my top school and I am very interested in the bilingual extension program, but it seems expensive to go there and live in the NYC area! For anyone who is in the program or who is an alumni of the program, is all that debt worth it? Did you apply for any scholarships or grants? How are you managing finances? Do you enjoy the program?
  4. Hello Everyone, I got an email for a graduate phone interview with Syracuse University in Speech-Language Pathology. Just wondering if anyone already had interviewed with the program? If you could offer some advice. I am just really nervous, so anything would help! This is one of my top choices. Many thanks!!
  5. Hi all, I just completed my application and interview for the May 2020 Speech@Emerson cohort last week. My advisor told me the turnaround time for a decision would be 3-8 weeks, however since I applied so early, it may be sooner. I'm excited because my advisor said the interview went well and everything I've submitted has looked good, but I'm a little worried because my undergrad GPA wasn't amazing. I graduated with a 3.1 cumulative, and my GRE scores were fairly average (I don't remember them off the top of my head ). I'm hoping my personal statement and interview will push the decision in my favor. Has anyone else received a decision yet? I would love to hear everyone else's experiences so far!
  6. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has gotten into Baylor's Masters Online SLP Program and how competitive is it. I just did an informational webinar for prospective students. I live in Dallas, TX so I know that the tuition will not be too much but still expensive. I currently go to Texas Woman's University majoring in Health Studies. I was going for Occupational Therapy but I have more of a love for Speech-Language Pathology. Also, could you provide your stats? I'm trying to see if I have a change. Thanks!
  7. Has anyone heard anything about UDC ( university of the District of Columbia) program for SLP? I can only find old info and it is not positive but the info is from like 10 years ago.
  8. I got into my dream school (Columbia)... but will need to take out an insane amount of loans to pay for tuition & cost of living. vs. attending a state school which will be almost free with a few scholarships i got. I don't know if going to an ivy league will benefit myself and my career... or if it doesn't matter and the loans are not worth it. They have an amazing program and offer a lot more than the state school especially for medical slp. I want to become a professor possibly eventually and think maybe a masters from Columbia would make a difference. Some people say, the better school is worth it and others say go where you'll have the least amount of loans If anyone has any advice would greatly appreciate it!!! Especially if you were in this position before :)
  9. I was wondering if anyone has taken a Speech Science or Speech Hearing Science fully online anywhere, that was easy and not proctored? (if it was a hybrid class that would be great too) I was thinking about ENMU but sounds like the professor isn't the best. Thanks in advance!!
  10. Hi everyone, I had my interview for Chapman two weeks ago. Still havent heard anything. Didnt get an interview for CSULA and got waitlisted to sdsu just now. I’m seriously freaking out. Has anyone heard back from Chapman yet?
  11. The first wave of acceptances went out to two of my schools and I haven't heard anything!! I am freaking out and refreshing my email every two minutes. If I don't get in I swear I am selling all of my belongings and moving to a foreign country. This isn't fun anymore. I'm not having a good time.
  12. Hi everyone! I applied to five programs for CSD/SLP, all in SoCal: SDSU, Redlands, CSULA, CSULB, and Chapman. I found out yesterday that I didn't get an interview for CSULA, but I did get one for Chapman and had it last week. I would like to see if others had heard back from CSULB, SDSU, or Redlands, or if people have heard an official admissions decision from Chapman. Let me know!!
  13. Has anyone received any word back from UTSA about their application? I know it may be a little early.
  14. Hey there! I got a 4.5 on the analytical section of the GRE but both the quantitative and verbal were under the average scores for the two. Should I be worried and retake the GRE? It would be my third time. Feedback would be helpful!!! Thanks.
  15. Listen guys, I spent there last 4 years trying to get in to a program.. This discussion board can be disheartening, and you may feel like you'll never get in because everyone else is so impressive.. But there is hope! I have loved this field for the last 6 years. I had a tough undergrad (2.8) GPA, took the GRE's 3 times never did well despite numerous classes (V145 Q 144 W 3.5). However my experiences as an SLP-A and LOR'S were amazing! Last year was going to be my last year applying.. I'm glad I didn't give up. You shouldn't either. IT'LL HAPPEN.
  16. Hi! I am retaking the GRE because I got a low AWA score and I hope to bring it up. I got good scores on Verbal and Quant so I am not focusing on those sections. I am worried that I may go down in those sections because I haven't been looking at them. Will most SLP grad schools take into account my highest scores on Verbal and Quant? Or will it hurt me if my scores drop when I retake it? Thank you!
  17. Hello! I recently took the GRE and I got a 157 in Verbal and a 151 in Quant. My AWA score was pretty low with a 3.5. I also have a 4.0 undergrad GPA. I was wondering if it is worth retaking the GRE to improve my AWA score. I don't want to retake it, but if it will make or break my acceptances into schools for Speech I will. I just want some opinions. Thank you!
  18. What schools is everyone waiting on? Interviewed, wait list, etc!!
  19. Hi! So the past few months for me have filled with endless stress and self doubt about applying to grad school and my future in general. I only applied to two schools because I didn't have much confidence that I would get in anywhere and didn't want to waste the money just to be rejected. I got rejected from University of Rhode Island and am currently waitlisted at LIU Post, which I'm actually shocked I even got waitlisted to be completely honest. As hopeful as I am that I'll get excepted, I know I need to be realistic. I have a 3.3 GPA, but with the way my grades are looking this semester, it's probably going to go down to a 3.2. I wanted to see if I could retake some classes in the summer to raise my GPA but my college doesn't let you retake classes to be factored into your GPA after you graduated. However, I could retake them as a nonmatriculated student, but it would make no difference in my GPA. Would grad schools even care if I did this? I was thinking about retaking anatomy because I got a C and I'm especially nervous about that being a CSD course, but I don't want to spend $1000 retaking it for grad schools not to even care. Anyway, does anyone know any ways I could increase my chances of getting accepted, or am I doomed because of my GPA? Am I even being realistic applying with a 3.2/3.3? And does anyone know of any backup plans/other career options with a bachelor's and CSD? I'm sorry this is so long, I'm so beyond stressed and none of my family or friends understand because to them, "I do have good grades". Thank you so much!!
  20. Hi! So i have been super stressed during this whole application process. I only applied to 2 schools because i didn’t have much confidence i would get accepted anywhere and i didn’t want to spend a ton of money just to get rejected. I got rejected from one school and waitlisted at LIU Post. Even though I’m trying to stay hopeful about Post, i know my chances are pretty slim. I have a 3.3 GPA but the way my grades are this semester it’s probably going to be around a 3.2? Am i even being realistic about applying? My GRE scores, recs, and essay are all pretty average so i don’t even really have that going for me. I wanted to retake some classes in the summer to try and boost my GPA, but my school does not allow you to retake classes for a higher grade once you’ve graduated. However, i could take them as a nonmatriculated student, but the grade would not replace my old one. Is it even worth it to do this? I was thinking of retaking anatomy because i got a C and I’m nervous because it’s a CSD course, but if grad schools wouldn’t even care then I’m not going to waste the money. Does anyone have any advice on ways to stand out more or any kind of back up plan? I’m so stressed that I’m not even excited about graduating. None of my family or friends understand because to them “i have good grades” (for any other major i would!) any advice is appreciated! And if you actually read this whole thing, thank you so much!
  21. Hi guys! I was accepted to NYU's on-campus program for Fall 2018, and am very seriously considering it. I'm an out-of field applicant, though, and right now I'm missing 4 prerequisites. I'm wondering -- do any of you know how their online prerequisite system works? Like, what is the structure of those courses? And would I have access to those courses during this summer, prior to starting the on-campus program? Any information would be much appreciated!
  22. Hi all! I am planning to start a CSD Master's program this fall, but I am missing several prerequisites. I'd like to do at least a couple of them this summer -- whatever I don't finish, I'll take alongside my master's. Do any of you have recommendations of where I could take these courses online this summer? *If you've done these courses online before, please tell me how heavy of a workload it was and what the cost was! These are the courses I'm missing: Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Swallow Mechanisms Introduction to Audiology and Aural Rehab Language Development and Disorders in Children Speech Development and Disorders in Children Any info would be much appreciated!!
  23. I'm applying to grad school this fall and I'm extremely nervous! Do you have any advice that you wish someone had told you when you were applying? Thanks in advance!
  24. I got accepted into the CSD grad programs at both CSUF and Chapman and need help deciding between the two. The only posts I've seen so far that compare CSUF and Chapman have been about the post-bacc programs. I am inquiring about the Masters Programs between the two. Pros and cons of each school? Any insights would be much appreciated. Thank you!
  25. Hey guys! So Emerson is the only school I got into so I’ll definitely be attending (and I’m thrilled, it was my top choice) but I’m having trouble finding the exact tuition online. Does anyone know how much the program will cost in total? Thanks! And let me know if you’re going to Emerson too!! ?
