Hi all! I was wondering if there are any people here who's anthropology PhD research combines elements both from sociocultural anthro and biological anthro? If so, on which of the tracks are you? Do you have advisors on your committee from both tracks? How did you initially present your ideas in the applications process? I'm asking because my proposed PhD project is rooted within sociocultural anthropology (which is also my background), but it does derive (at least potentially) from biological anthro, and I'm wondering how should I present it to potential advisors, especially in depa

Hey guys! I've been working on my SOP for PhD (BA holder) in cultural anthropology for over a month now and the more I read it, the less I believe in it. I'm on a tight turn around (Dec 1st) and could really use some guidance! The one program requires a 500 word SOP/Personal statement and the other wants a 1000 SOP + 500 words on what I assume is a personal statement. If anyone would be wiling to take a look please send me a message and I'll get you what I have. Also, good luck to everyone out there who is nearing the end of their application process, you can do this (simultaneously

Anyone on here applying to Tulane for Anthropology or Linguistics this year? I've applied to both Anthropology (cultural) and EEB for PhDs, and my partner applied for Anthropology (linguistic) and Linguistics. Tulane is our top choice, so I'm super nervous about getting in/getting funding! My GPA is okay (3.35 for unofficial transcript, probably gonna be 3.5 by final transcript - it's mostly my freshman year weighing me down), as are my GRE scores (QU: 150, QA: 160, W: 4.5), but I've got 2 major research projects, 2 internships, a small business (unrelated to the field of study), and even

I finally accepted an offer (Woo!) and am already preparing to schedule my first semester of courses. In addition to my RA position, I'll be taking three courses my first semester. One is a mandatory pro-seminar so I don't need to worry about that, but I am free to choose the additional two. I am a cultural anthropology student, and in looking at the course catalogue, I see there are quite a few classes that are very relevant to my proposed research that I think would be really interesting to me. I am definitely going to contact my POI for advice on what classes would be best for my first

Hi All! Does anyone have any recommendations for a good cultural anthropology PhD program that focuses (or has faculty focusing) on digital/cyber anthropology? I know there are some digital anthropology programs out there but all I've found are for BA or MA. I've already received by MA and I'm looking to get my PhD. Any help is appreciated!

Does anyone know of any organization or grant that offers funding for short-term or summer research projects for graduate students? So far my attempts have been futile--finding only programs for undergrads or for dissertation research. Thanks!

I graduate in May 2011 with a Master's in cultural anthropology and my dream is to pursue my PhD, however, I did not get into the only Antho PhD program in my city. I'm married and I own a house. Therefore, I have to stay where I'm at for a couple years (hence why I only applied to the one local program). I'm planning on applying to programs for fall 2013 but, until then, I'm working in an unrelated field to save up money. My focus in anthropology is on cyberanthropology (particularly social media) and I'm managing social media and PR at my current job. So I could tie it into my resesarch
