  1. I am currently a Junior attending Florida Institute of Technology for their Forensic Psychology program. I also have a Pre-Law minor and the CAST certificate for child advocacy. I am studying abroad in the spring, so i was advised to take the GRE before i went so that i would have time in the summer before my senior year to re-take it if possible. Due to some confusion about who was paying for it (my parents or me) i now have two dates scheduled for the GRE. I will be taking it October 22nd and November 30th. I took a GRE review course offered by Kaplan over the summer and made HUGE improvements in my practice tests, but that course has since ended. I still have the review books and everything for it but i am wondering if anyone has tips for studying in the weeks before my testing date? The best i did on a practice test was 97th percentile in Verbal and 37th percentile in Quant i would LOVE to have above 50th percentile in quant since my verbal has been so high.
  2. Hi all! Since Columbia SIPA"s early application deadline is right around the corner, I wanted to start a thread for other SIPA hopefuls who- if they are anything like myself- are quietly panicking right about now. Anyone else struggling with the ridiculously short SOP word count? Has anyone actually submitted their app yet?
  3. I heard back yesterday from the first school I interviewed at in early Feb, saying I had an acceptance offer and to respond by Feb 26. However, I know for a fact that the other 2 schools I interviewed at send out offers in early March. I'm really looking to get into these other 2 schools but don't want to lose the first acceptance offer if I get rejected by both. Should I email the director of the first school to ask for an extension, or ask the other two schools for an earlier notification? (I'm leaning towards the former, since it won't hurt me as much). Also, all these programs are tiny so all the directors know each other well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  4. Hello All, I applied to the MSc Statistics at LSE and was rejected in only 2.5 weeks. Is this strange? I have a 3.74 undergrad GPA (and spent my senior year abroad at the LSE). There are certainly weaknesses in my application, but for some reason, I thought it might be slightly odd that my profile would be rejected so soon... Lastly, they said they sent an email, but nothing has been received from my end. Appreciate any thoughts on this!
  5. I've been accepted to a college and will attend their recruitment weekend soon! Their itinerary states a full day of events on Friday and Saturday (up until dinner on Sat), and nothing on Sunday. I'd rather go home on Saturday evening instead of Sunday morning. My question is whether it'd be okay to leave after dinner on Saturday? Does the school need to know whether I check out on Saturday evening or Sunday morning? Is it rude to skip unscheduled events after Saturday's dinner (e.g. drinks with current grad students)?
  6. Hey guys haven't seen any Fletcher thread so started this one I applied on Nov.15h just in time for the deadline. Checking my email every day even though i know its too soon. Little bit info of myself: I am an international student and have a PolSci and IR major from US public university, graduated in May2017, currently working in my home country. Last Year i applied to NYU and BU while i was a college senior and got into their MA programs however there was no scholarship so i declined both the offer. Good Luck to all of you

  8. I'll be applying for Fall 2017 Masters programs in the US and was wondering if there was any advantage of applying early? Of the 9 colleges that I am planning on applying to only U of Chicago has an "early action" deadline. If I apply early do I get my reply earlier? Is my application evaluated earlier? Any help is appreciated Thanks
  9. so first, YAY i got accepted into maryland-collage park's phd program, which was in the middle of my preferred schools list (so not having to settle or anything like that). but second, what? that was awfully fast. and now that i'm reading the acceptance letter, i have to let them know of my decision by march 1st. that sounds awfully early, and i'm... vaguely suspicious about this as a deliberate strategy on maryland's part: my top choice schools won't let me know of my status until march/april. so uh... what can I do in this situation? ask maryland to give me a longer deadline? ask the other schools to hurry up?
  10. First-- HAPPY NEW YEAR! Woo hoo! I have a rather strange situation. I am currently working on my master's degree in theology with a focus in world religions. I would like to do a Ph.D. in the sociology of religion. I will not finish my master's degree until May of 2013, but I am thinking of starting the Ph.D. application process at the end of 2012. I am thinking of doing this because I don't want to wait a year before entering my next program. Ideally, I'd like to get accepted to a Ph.D. program in the Spring of 2013, finish my master's degree in May 2013 and begin my Ph.D. program in September 2013. My gut says that it won't matter because there will be applicants who don't have Masters degrees... The bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement-- so it won't matter if I've finished my master's degree, eh? Now for a curveball: I'm worried about the timing of my applications because my undergrad gpa is very low. I dropped out at 20 yrs old with a 2.10... I transferred to another school a few years later and finished with a 2.98... The average cumulative gpa for the two programs will be around 2.50... (I suffered with severe clinical depression associated with a chronic, disfiguring disease that I still have, but I sought help for my depression at the age of 26 and have developed tools the tools I need to be successful. I'll be hammering that home in my personal statement when I apply.) My grad school gpa has been consistently around 3.50 (not stellar, but better than 2.10), so I think I'll need to show what I've done in my adult years because it's far better than my performance in undergrad. Do you think it'll matter if I apply to a Ph.D. program prior to finishing the graduate degree given the obvious weight my new grades will carry in the application cycle? I understand that it is IMPOSSIBLE to answer questions like these with any certainty, but I figured it might be somewhat helpful to open the topic for discussion among people who may know a little about how review committees may think. Thanks, and happy new year again.
  11. Hi everyone! I just began my MPH this semester and I love learning, but I think I would like to finish next December instead of the following May if possible. My only concern is that this will be a lot of work to cram in. I would have to take 14 hours this Spring and next Fall as well as 6 hours (hopefully online) over the Summer while doing a Practicum. Has anyone done this before? Is it doable? I searched the forums and didn't find anything like this. If someone could help me out, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
