  1. Has anyone heard back from the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program at USC?
  2. Has anyone heard from the Indiana University's Department of Education? I know they offer several degrees. I have applied for the EdD Literacy, Culture, Language Education online. Applications were due January 15 though, mine was in December 5th. Should the acceptances go out at the same time for PhD and EdD in the same department? It seems like they would. I have not seen anything on the board yet for this year and a year ago they went out on the 13th. I am also unsure about the possibility of funding for an EdD. I would assume that's a no and they would be happy to accept my fully qualified monies. I have tried to be patient, but honestly since February 15th my patience has worn. Its frustrating. There are not a lot of distance programs for an EdD that fit my needs as an educator. I teach in Georgia and Georgia Professional Standards has to approve programs for advancement and they will not approve a Curriculum and Instruction EdD as a new field unless that is a field in the state where the program is located. I really want something that fits my interests and current context. My masters is in Applied Linguistics, I teach French in the IB program. The Indiana program seems to combine everything. Although, I have had some communication issues. Hoping for positive answers soon. Thanks for reading.
  3. Hello, everyone! I teach Speech & Debate and Mock Trial at the middle and high school level. In the last few years, our program has risen to national prominence; we have over 100 members, a thriving parent group, and significant name recognition (it’s a major reason that we get new students to attend our fledgling school). I have mid-level leadership positions in several public speaking education-related nonprofits, like our state’s High School Speech Association and National Speech and Debate Association. I love my job and position, but want to eventually transition to 1) create/lead competitive education-focused companies and 2) teach other teachers/school systems how to develop strong programs of their own. I think an EdD gives me increased professional credibility in this space. I just completed my online Masters in Organizational Leadership/Learning. It was a very positive experience; I’m better at running teams now, have been offered professional development leadership opportunities at my school, and feel much more confident in my ability to juggle work and school. I want your advice/counsel. Do you think it’s smarter for me professionally to get an online EdD from a well-known university or leave what I’ve built here to get an in-person EdD at a Penn or Harvard in a little while? Does the benefit of an in-person program grossly outweigh the online one in terms of professional credibility and recognition? I’m considering USC, Johns Hopkins, and Vanderbilt in terms of online EdDs—what do you all think fits my profile best? UG GPA: 3.3 from UCLA. Grad GPA: 4.0 from GWU (Online). Work experience: Four years of classroom teaching, team-coaching, community leadership, and nonprofit development. GRE: Haven’t taken yet. Will take both HBX CORe and GRE courses this Spring. I am very confident in my LORs and personal statements.
  4. Hey all! I've applied for the EdD in Leadership and Learning in Organization program at Vanderbilt's Peabody Online. Has anyone else applied to this program? Has anyone else heard a response for May 2018? I know this program and the online format is new for Vanderbilt. The anticipation / wait is absolutely killing me! Patience is not a virtue I was graced with...
  5. Hello Grad Cafe Forum! I have yet to see a USF forum and thought I would start one. I am applying for the Ed.D in International and Multicultural Education program with a concentration in Human Rights Education. Does anybody know what their acceptance rates are like? I guess I am just really nervous about the GRE since I haven't taken it yet.. Thanks in advance!!

    JHU EdD Program

Does anyone know anything about the online EdD program at Johns Hopkins? It is relatively new. I can't find much out there. Anyone have any experience with the program or know anyone that has? Any information is appreciated!

  8. Has anyone applied to either University of Nebraska's PhD or EdD in Educational Studies? How about Johns Hopkins' EdD program? I'm anxiously awaiting. I haven't heard anything so am naturally worried! Thanks for sharing all of your experiences!
  9. I was looking into Columbia's Ph.D and Ed.D programs and was unable to find clear information on how Teacher's College handles Ph.D funding. On the website it says "Ph.D. students normally receive the annual prevailing stipend and appropriate tuition and health fees for five years, provided that they remain in good academic standing and, in the case of student officers, have discharged responsibly their pedagogical or research duties." Other programs that I have looked at have more or less stated explicitly that all Ph.D programs have their tuition covered for 5 years. Does anyone know if tuition is covered for Ed.D programs/Ph.D programs at Teachers' College? What's the funding like (if any) for these programs? Thanks for your help!
  10. Hello! I'm interested in applying to the Doctor of Education in SLP at TC Columbia in the future and would like to get some information from anyone who attended or has applied. I'm interested in knowing how the program is structured (classes, research, and possibility of having a job while studying), how selective the application process is, how much work experience applicants typically have and so on. I'm also wondering if there is any funding available (I've heard it's scarce) and whether the experience overall was a good one. I hope to get a Bilingual Extension Institute certificate from TC before applying for the doctorate and possibly get a better idea about the school. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
  11. This may sound silly, but I'm still an undergrad and wondering about the EdD application requirements. I'm doing initial licensure in teaching (Massachusetts) as an undergrad, but would like to eventually get into an EdD program in educational leadership (hopefully). But my question is, will I need an MEd or MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) first, or does it depend on the school? I'd prefer an MEd (seems more prestigious/relevant), but it seems that when I first start teaching, the MAT will be easier and convenient for me to get. Any thoughts on this? Or can I go straight into an EdD without a Master's? Sorry for all the questions!
  12. Thought I would start a thread for those of us applying for the 2012 school year. Let's share and discuss! I am applying for culture, communities and education- anyone else out there?
  13. Hi there! I couldn't find a forum that was dedicated for the Fall 2011 applications for Education Doctorates in 2012, so here it is! I really hope this will be a good place for mutual questions and support, as we all know this process is never an easy one! Anyway, to start things off, here are my specs.
