  1. Hey folks I've actually got a few of questions under that more general heading I've titled this post with. They're listed and explained a bit below. 1. Best programs to explore that fit my interests Generally speaking, I'm looking to conduct policy-relevant research in the field of environmental security. Research Focus: I'm particularly interested in the relationships between regional environmental change and specific sub-national conflict dynamics related to armed groups, polarization between conflict parties, and national governance in developing states, as well as how enviro
  2. It's almost priority deadline day for Yale FES and Duke Nicholas. Anyone else applying? And any other MEM or MPP/MPA programs environmental policy?
  3. Hello all! One element of my PhD that I am really struggling with is actually finding out about conferences. I'm within environmental policy and how policy can direct more sustainable natural resource management. I would like to present at some conferences soon (anywhere really - I am lucky to have a fund to access), but I'm not really sure where to look. Thanks for any help!
  4. Hello! Would anyone be interested in reviewing my SOP? I am applying to a bunch of Environmental Management and Policy programs. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uIoun1IXWnKmcoKrSa-UMA6ajss1FN8E0JRjFt1xmYE/edit?usp=sharing I've linked my SOP above; feel free to leave comments on the Google Doc. For some context, this version is meant for a California school, which is why I mention the state. I, of course, tweak my SOP according to the program I am applying to. This version is slightly long. For the other applications, I will cut
  5. Hello. I'm looking to submit a bunch of applications in the next couple of weeks and I'm not feeling so great about my SOP. I'm looking for feedback and criticism to tighten my SOP before submitting. I'm applying to a bunch of environmental management programs and MPP/A programs, with an environmental specialization.
  6. Hi all, I’ve been lucky enough to be accepted to my top two programs, the Master of Public Administration at Cornell and the MPA- Environmental Science and Policy at Columbia. I am kind of torn as to what to do, as both programs have strengths that seem equally important for me, so I was hoping I could get some advice from a forum I have religiously stalked this entire process ? With the funding I have received, what I have saved, and living expenses factored in, Cornell is about 13k cheaper, but I would be alright paying a little more for the program from Columbia if that was a better op
  7. Hi guys, I applied for the MES fall 2018 at Penn and i'm yet to hear back from them. I just want to know if anyone else applied and is equally waiting to hear back. I submitted my application before their April 1 deadline but completed my application end of may , that's 6 weeks till date. I have written to the school and i was advised to wait two more weeks (which ended Friday). Should i be worried? Eek ? considering i'm international and would probably have to apply for form i20, campus housing and student visa.
  8. Hello, I would appreciate thoughts regarding graduate school decisions/comments from people in the same boat. Interested in environmental policy and potentially private sector consulting or NGO work. Accepted to: GWU - Environmental Resource Policy, Trachtenberg School ($10k/year fellowship) Still waiting on a decision from UCSB Bren MESM. Obviously this could all be for nothing depending on decision from Bren, but going into this process I regarded UCSB Bren as my #1 choice due to program respect in the environmental field, location (Santa Barbara sounds nice), etc. Howe
  9. Hey! I was secretly hoping only one of these schools wouldn't accept me because I absolutely hate making decisions. Obviously, I am going to do a little bit of research again before I decide but I wanted to know if other people had any advice. I got into: Boston University - MA International Relations and Environmental Policy (with a tiny bit of $) American University - MA Global Environmental Policy (no funding) I want to try to make my concentration centered around wildlife conservation. I want to work in a place like the World Wildlife Fund or something similar. My problem i
  10. I have a bachelors in Economics from India and an MSc. in Environmental Management from UK. I also have 4 years of experience in policy research. What universities in US/Canada can I apply to? I want to do research in environmental policy in developing countries. Most programs I look at have a science focus rather than a management one. My GRE score: V- 160, Q-163, AWA- 5 Top Unis like Columbia and UC Berkeley are out of my reach. Any suggestions of schools which have great PhD programs in Environmental Management?
  11. Hi, I am looking to apply for environmental policy PhD for the fall 2017 intake. I have an undergrad in economics from India and an MSc. in environmental management from UK. I have 3 years of work experience but only a year of that is in environmental research, other 2 years of work ex is in finance. I will be appearing for my GRE in September, though I currently score between 300-320 in my mocks. I wanted to know which programs should I apply to with my background? I found Ivy League colleges like SIPA columbia, FES Yale and Duke's PhD but I am skeptical of my ability to get admis
  12. hiya long time lurker first time poster. anyone hear yet from the ecm masters at oxford?? the wait's killing me. seems like everyone here has applied to the us programs like at yale, michigan, and duke. ps: how does the 1 year oxford program compare to those 2 year programs?
  13. Hey guys, I depended so much on this forum when I was applying for schools so I thought I'd put myself out there as a resource for anyone who is thinking of applying to GSPP. I'm a current student, focusing on international environmental policy and sustainable development. To give you a short list of why I chose GSPP over other options: Berkeley is hands down the best place to be for those interested in energy/environment/sustainability, there are amazing research opportunities in every field, the program is extremely flexible but also quantitatively rigorous, and $$. I know that when
