It's definitely on the early side, but I figured I might as well start the 2018 version of this thread! (I was just procrastinating studying for finals searching for a Facebook group for my chosen program, and I found last year's version of this post.) Definitely more efficient than scanning the Results page, etc. If you create a group, please post a link here! When others commit to a school, they can find the groups here. Congrats to everyone, and best of luck to all those still waiting and/or deciding!

Contacting potential supervisor over Facebook Messenger?
AvelineHilda posted a topic in Applications
Hi everyone, I am applying for an MA in English right now and I could use your advice for a question I have about contacting a potential supervisor. I am applying to my absolute dream school, and for their application they strongly suggest contacting a potential supervisor within their graduate faculty and name them in the Statement of Intent. I am already acquainted with the potential supervisor I have in mind, who is a tenured professor doing research in the same field I am interested in (post-1945 American lit & print culture). I met this professor at a conference two years ago (I have been a graduate student for some time; English will be my second MA) and we became friends on Facebook after connecting over our research interests. We have not kept in touch, although we will occasionally 'like' each other's research-related posts on Facebook. Now I am wondering if I should contact this person the traditional way, over e-mail; or send them a Facebook message. Normally I would always opt for e-mail, but because I already know them I thought it might be a good idea to add a personal touch. What do you guys think? Is a message too unprofessional? Thanks!- 4 replies

I know this might be a little early, but now that many of us have been accepted to different programs, I thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread containing Facebook groups for various programs. I've seen people posting groups in the results page and figured this might be more efficient. If you create a group, please post a link here! When others commit to a school, they can find the groups here. Congrats to everyone!

Hi everyone! If you have decided to attend Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health in Fall 2017 (like me) then feel free to join the Facebook group I just created so we can connect with each other, ask questions, etc. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1527643387247818/ This group is intended to promote connectivity between students admitted to a Master of Public Health, Master of Science, or Master of Healthcare Administration degree programs at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health beginning in September 2017.

Hello everyone, I have been accepted to the EPFL for the coming academic year. I will be doing my Master Degree in Computer Science starting from the Fall 2017 semester. I have therefore created a Facebook group in order to collect everyone who is coming. It will be a great place to know each other, share informations, ask for help and generally to make this Master Degree start right :-) Here is the name of the group you can search (without "") -> "EPFL Master Fall 2017 - 2019" Hope everyone will join and share it with friends. We need to make a very huge community! Take care

I would like to make a facebook group for the 2018 Speech-Language Pathology cohort at Northeastern University in Boston. In order to make the group, I need to invite another person and I am unsure of anyone else going! If you have accepted your admission and will be attending in the fall, let me know so I can make a group! Then we can all get to know each other!- 1 reply

Hi, friends! I have a question related to admissions and social networking. For those of us who are 21+, should we be worried about having hints about alcohol on our Tweets or Facebooks? My Tweets are unprotected and every once in a while there might be a small mention of alcohol, but nothing crazy. Should I be worried that a professor or admissions committee member will view that negatively? Again, I'm of legal age. Many have said that committees want to see that you're "normal"...
