  1. Hi all! Is there anyone else that has applied for Biomedical Science/Biology/anything similar PhD courses for 2020 entry? I've applied to the following: NYU Sackler Institute (US) Johns Hopkins (US) ICR (UK) Imperial (UK) Where has everyone else applied??
  2. Hello everyone! Since most of us are almost towards the end of applications, I thought it'll be a good time to start this thread. As a continuation of @IceCream & MatSci's post last year, I thought this could be helpful. So those of you who are applying for Materials Science and Engineering programs for Fall 2020, this is your place to share and talk to fellow aspirants! (It won't be wrong to call this a 'support group' now, would it?) Feel free to post your credentials, and results using the following format! Undergrad Institution (approx. rank/reputation in STEM): Major(s): Minor(s): GPA in Major: x.xx/4.00 Overall GPA: x.xx/4.00 Demographics/Background: GRE Scores: Q: xxx (xx%) V: xxx (xx%) W: x.x (xx%) LOR: Research Experience: Publications/Abstracts/Presentations: Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Fellowships/Funding: Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Other Miscellaneous Accomplishments: Anything else in your application that might matter (faculty connections, etc.): Research Interests: Institutions/Programs: Comments:
  3. I just got an email from them requesting to know my availability for a skype interview, but also stating that they won’t interview everyone this email was sent to. I’m wondering if they sent this to all applicants or just a handful—what does this mean?
  4. Hey everyone just wanted to know if anyone has applied to any Canadian Public Health PhD programs for Fall 2020? I'm wondering if anyone has gotten an interview request yet or acceptance, etc.
  5. Has any written an exceptional consideration essay for their grad school application due to have a GPA below a 3.0? If so, what did you include in it? My GPA isn't low due to a significant event taking place. it had a a lot to do with procrastination so I am not sure what exactly to write about.
  6. [PROFILE EVALUATION POST] [TL:DR: Need suggestion on graduate school selection] Hello good people, Hope you are doing well. I have found the resources available in this site really helpful and am on the verge of applying to graduate schools for PhD in CS. I may have a below than the average profile due to a lack of publications or a slightly concerning GPA. I have prepared a VERY LONG list of programs that are aligned with my interest. However, most of the programs I found are from the top 50 universities and it seems their acceptance rates are very low. I will try to apply to some of those ambitious schools. But what I am stressing about is actually finding at least 2 or 3 safe or moderate programs. The deadlines are closing in and I would really appreciate it if anyone can give me any suggestion. My profile: CGPA: 3.48/4.00, (institution is in top 10 of my country) GRE: 324 (Q165, V159, A4.0), Toefl: 104 ( R30, L: 25, S20, W:29), Research experience: Undergrad thesis on phylogenetic trees( relevant to computational biology) Publication: NONE, Job: 2 years in the software industry, Research Interest: Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Advanced Algorithms, Theory of Computation. LoR: 2 from university professors, 1 from former employer Some universities I found aligned to my interest: (with their usnews ranking) 1. Rice University [20] 2. Johns Hopkins University [25] 3. Pennsylvania State University [30] 4. New York University [30] 5. University of California--Irvine [30] 6. University of Virginia [30] 7. Virginia Tech [40] 8. University of California--Davis [37] 9. University of Colorado--Boulder [40] 10. Stony Brook University--SUNY [40] 11. Michigan State University [55] 12. Indiana University--Bloomington [55] 13. Iowa State University [61] 14. University of California--Riverside [61] 15. Case Western Reserve University [68] 16. George Mason University [68] 17. Florida State University [82] 18. University of Central Florida [82] 19. CUNY Graduate School and University Center [82] 20. University of Connecticut [83] 21. University of Texas-San Antonio [119] I have got only a few generic replies from some professors of these schools. But could not decide any. Some programs ask for a Master's degree for PhD admission and I only have BSc. Also, TOEFL speaking score is making me omit some programs from this list too. My Queries: [1] What usnews ranking ranges could be considered as ambitious, moderate and safe based on this profile? [2] Could you suggest any safe schools for this profile?
  7. Hello! I couldn't find a thread for those preparing to apply for PhDs this year to the US for Fall 2020 admission so I've started this (please point me to a thread if it exists!). This thread is for applicants to get to know each other, ask questions about potential universities, make lists, and most of all: to freak out with. About me: I'm looking at history, gender studies, and south asian studies departments. I am interested in gender and legal history of colonial south asia. I'm an international student, from India. I did my B.A at Bard College, New York and M.A at SOAS. So far I am looking keenly at: Columbia (MESAAS), Cornell, Duke, U Michigan (ann arbor), U. Washington, U Wisconsin-Madison, Rutgers U, UChicago, UTexas Austin. Introduce yourself, your themes, potential unis, and your fears and aspirations! 🌻
  8. Hi guys. I know this might seem a little too soon as I have barely seen any other discussions happening on Fall 2020. But I have finally narrowed down to this course and I wanted to see if anyone else has started to shortlist schools for MS Business Analytics/MS Analytics. For now, I have referred to the QS ranking list to see which universities would be a good fit for my profile. Please do share your progress on this post. Let us all get through this nerve wracking one year together!
