    MS CS (Canada) Fall 2018

Still haven't heard from UWO and York university for MS in CS (Thesis) for Fall 2018. Has anyone heard back from them? York's decision status says "No decisions yet" UWO's decision status says "Released to program" Considering CUPE strikes are happening in York, the decisions might roll out later (maybe ???) What about UWO ??

  8. Hi! I've gotten funded offers from both Bowling Green State University and Old Dominion University. I've drawn up a list of pros and cons, but I'm still not able to choose between the two universities. Can anyone give me some input on the reputation of these two programs? I'm aware that BGSU has one of the oldest programs in the country and is quite reputed. The faculty list is pretty impressive at ODU. Please help me, I'm really confused!

    Bring notes to the interview?

Hi guys, I am invited to the open house day for a Phd. Psychology program. I was told that I will have three interviews with three different professors at this program, and I had the opportunity to rank the faculty in the program from the most to the least that i want to work with. The truth is, I applied to this school was only because of this one professor's work, which I absolutely loved. Anyhow, i was wondering has anyone interviewed with faculty other than your stated POI in your PS? And also, I was wondering if it would be weird or unprofessional if I open my binder for some notes during the interview? Any comments will be appreciated!

  15. Hi fellow applicants! I believe all of us are in the same boat when it comes to decision making. While applying to every university, I looked at the pros of their curriculum, but now that I have a few admits, I am unable to weigh them against each other to decide the precedence. Coming from a non-public affairs/government sector/humanities background, I have a basic idea of my field of study during Masters, but no prior experience to help me determine where I ultimately want to end up working. Hell, I am not even convinced I do not want a career in academics - a small research experience in the field over the last few years has me convinced that I might want to pursue a doctorate for all I know. One thing I know for sure is that I intend to return to my country, and so the regular DC career vs. other careers in the US that we regularly see on this forum do not really apply to me. The factors I am weighing in as of now are: How well the education can be extrapolated in the context of my native. The sort of research at the university in my area of interest (technology ethics) Flexibility of curriculum, that may allow me to explore the wide domain of my choice and establish a niche over the next few years Obviously, the financial aid I receive! How are you guys planning to make this very important decision ultimately?
  16. Has Emory University's IMP program started giving out interview letters for Fall 2018 sessions?
  17. Just want to start a topic for those none-psych undergrads who are applying for psych grad schools for Fall2018. Thought that we can share our backgrounds and admission updates so far. I am an international student from China. Did my B.A. in China, and majored in English. Completed my M.S. in Education at Cal State. Enrolled in a Post-Bac Psych program, and loved it so far. I am doing RA at a social psych lab in the UC system, for about half year now. I applied to 13 schools this season (a0r1). It is a tough journey to get in to grad school, especially for those who are switching their fields.......
  18. I'm really worried about getting into a PhD program in school psychology. I have an undergrad GPA of 3.55, a major GPA of 3.65, really low GRE scores (below average). I was a research clinician for a summer program for children with autism- I have continued to work at the program as a research assistant for the Fall semester. I have also been on a research team for the last year. I was TA for a philosophy course (teaching experience). I worked at a community center for one summer, and I was a freshman mentor. I am also in Psi Chi. I have been in contact with all the professors of interest and spoken to them about their research. Will my GRE automatically put me out of the running? I have applied to: The University of Utah (top choice), The University of Virgina, The University of Georgia, The University at Buffalo, and Michigan State University. Does anyone know my chances of getting into any of these schools?

    PhD Program Interviews

Good afternoon everyone! I was wondering if there are any past Soc PhD applicants that have an idea of how interviews work? I got rejected from all programs I applied to in Fall 2014. Finished an MA program this past spring that has a small Soc/Anthro department and I'm not really sure what to expect in the next few weeks. Thank you in advance for the information that could help ease my anxiety!
  21. Hey everyone! I was wondering if people had experiences with getting into a PhD program with a master's degree in Sociology? I'm just a bit puzzled that only a few classes will be taken into consideration for the PhD. program. Were you guys set back? Or ahead? Did you have to redo some classes when starting the PhD program? Also, did you end up doing/getting another MA/MS along the way? What are your experiences? Looking forward to your stories!

    Pls Evaluate my profile

Dear all, I am senior in Petroleum Engineering at The University of Oklahoma and graduating in May 2018. I am preparing for my graduate school applications in Petroleum Engineering and Civil Engineering. I have a list of almost 20 schools that i am going to apply. Could you guys please help me evaluate my profile and the chance i get funded ? I need funding to go to graduate school. Profile: -Overall GPA: 3.60 ( Hopefully it will go up to 3.65 after this semester ) -Major GPA: 3.75 -Expected GRE: 320- 325 ( Quantitative: 165; verbal: 155; AWA: 4.0) -LoRs: 2 decent ones from associate professors and 1 strong from department chair ( The professor i am working with) -SoP: not very strong, decent. -Research Experiences: 1 internship with big company in oil field ( Worked as research intern), and 1,5 year experience working in the lab with well-known professors. I know my GPA and GRE are gonna hurt my application, but i dont think i could improve those in short time. The schools i will apply: -Petroleum Engineering: UT Austin, Texas A&M, Colorado School of Mines, OU, LSU, UL Lafayette, U of Alberta, U of Calgary, NTNU. U of Stavanger, Imperial College, U of Adelaide, Curtin, U of New South Wales, TU Delft, South Dakota School of Mines, New Mexico School of Mines, Montana Tech, Penn State, SouthCal -Civil Engineering: ( I chose this major because it shares some courses with P.E and my intern project was related to this field): GeorgiaTech, U of Minnesota, U of Illinois, University of Michigan, Cornell, Purdue ( I really dont expect much in these schools ) Please feel free to share your thoughts about my profile and my school choices.

  25. Hi guys! I am an out-of-field applicant applying this fall to start a leveling masters SLP program next fall. I do not want to do a post-bacc program I would rather go straight into a masters program and do my prerequisites within the program. I will graduate with my B.S. in Psychology and my current GPA is a 3.89(I am hoping it goes up a bit more this semester). I have yet to take my GRE but I have a feeling I'll get pretty average scores on the verbal and writing sections and slightly above average on the quantitative portions. I currently work in the field of ABA as a senior habilitation provider with kids with Autism. I volunteer at the children's hospital as an administrative assistant and in the playroom with the kiddos and I just recently completed 100 volunteer hours combined. For extracurricular activities I am currently in an environmental club. I have shadowed SLPs in geriatrics and in pediatrics and will soon start to volunteer with an SLP working in pediatrics. I am currently a research assistant for a program that works with middle schoolers and their parents to increase academic engagement and prevent adolescent health programs. I work directly with the participants and collect data from them (collecting saliva samples, their heart rate, asking questions, etc.). I will also begin to volunteer with the children's hospital in research. The options for my LORs are my anatomy, calculus, developmental psychology, research methods professors and the SLP I shadow offered to write me one as well. What are my chances of getting into a leveling SLP program? What can I do to increase my chances? Who would be the best options to write me LORs since I am an out of field applicant and I do not have any speech and hearing sciences professors? What are some schools that accept out-of-field applicants who haven't taken any prerequisites? What are some exampled of leadership experience or what can I do to get some leadership experience? Sorry I know there is a lot of questions but I am so worried that I will not get accepted for next fall.
