  1. I have 2 offers with very different field work: One of them involves really intense months of hiking, nest and bird identification, mist netting, and tracking. It sounds amazing, but I’ve never been backwoods camping for example, and have limited field experience. I wondered if anyone else had deep dived into this sort of intense fieldwork and what feedback you could share? The other involves fieldwork but is much more computational. In fact, if I didn’t want to do fieldwork they’d be fine with it (I do!). I’ll really have to push to incorporate more theoretical analysis into the first op
  2. Hello! Can anyone please share their impressions of the MSW for clinical/ micro/ direct practice concentration at these schools? In particular: - Do you feel that classes, fieldwork, and supervision adequately prepare you to use a variety of modalities and interventions ? - Does the fieldwork placement give you lots of opportunities for hands-on work with clients from the beginning? - Did you feel supported by field education admin? - Did your learning focus only on the immediate location the school is in, or is easily generalisable to other regions? I"d love to
  3. I am a linguistic anthropology Ph.D student who does fieldwork on language contact, migration, and interaction in Southeast Asia and could use some advice on field equipment. I am mainly looking for a good camera that I can use for pictures (mostly street photography) and video (for interactional analysis), as well as a durable laptop that can run programs like ELAN, Praat, etc., and handle basic video editing. Advice on good audio recorder (I’ve been looking at Zooms But haven’t made any decisions yet) would also be appreciated. Thanks so much!
  4. Hi all -- I have a question for those of you on the far end of the phd tunnel, or perhaps some of your who even have experience (or heard of people) that have had their field research component delayed. I was brought on to a research group last year in anticipation of our grant being funded to continue some of the lab's previous work in Antarctica. My adviser has a horrifyingly shocking success rate with grants (in 25 years he has never not had PI funding), which is why he brought me on before we had official confirmation. A long series of events later (including major funding uncertainti
  5. Hello everyone! I have a sort of stupid question. I cannot find the answer anywhere, not even among my peers, so I feel even stupider (is that a word?). Ok, I am leaving for 14 months on fieldwork in June. Have any of you got insurance for that year? Basically, I want to protect my computer and external drive. The laptop is relatively good and could get stolen. The easy answer is "don't take it" but I need to work while there. Also, I don't have enough money to buy a crappy one. Thanks! AP
