    Gatech MS-HCI Fall 2019

Hi guys, I heard that GT sent out admissions on Feb.22 and Feb.26. Congradulations to those who have been admitted to this competitive program!!! I am wondering if the four tracks (IC/ID/PSY/LMC) send out admissions independently? If so, which track did you receive your admission from? Thanks & Congrats!!!
  2. Hey everyone, I've recently got admits at CMU MCDS (systems track) and Georgia Tech MSCS. I want to do mostly systems courses, especially OS, and am not into ML/AI. I'm trying to keep both prospects of job/PhD open which makes it hard to decide - by this I mean at the moment I will be going down the job path (related to systems), but I do not want to completely cut off the possibility of a PhD, so if I get a chance to do some research that would help me in the future then it would be great. I do not want to decide purely based on brand name (CMU) or fees (GaTech) but I find myself falling back on these two criteria all the time. Hoping for a more holistic outlook from others. Could anyone provide their opinion as to which they would pick and why? TIA :
  3. I am trying to decide between a funded masters in mechanical engineering at MIT or a PhD in Robotics at Georgia Tech (I received a fellowship). Any advice on which would be better for getting an industry job in robotics? I realize I could always do the master's at MIT and continue for my PhD later but I am worried about being successful at MIT based on how difficult it is. It might just be impostor syndrome but I am shocked I even got into MIT and would probably be at the bottom of the intelligence spectrum there.

    MSHCI at Gatech - waitlist?

Is there anyone here who has applied to MSHCI at Gatech and whose Status still says "To Dept For Review". Plenty of people have already got admits and rejects in the past few weeks but mine is still under review. I contacted the HCI dept through the Contact form and got no response. Anyone else in a similar position?
  5. I got this email a while back from Georgia Tech. What does it imply? Do I steel myself for a rejection? Thank you for your interest in Georgia Tech’s Master of Science in Computer Science program. Due to a record number of applications this year, we are still working through the evaluation stage. Decisions will start going out as they are made over the next few weeks. What this means is that not all decisions are going out on the same day. Please be patient and let us work our way to you. Thanks, College of Computing Graduate Programs
  6. Hello, I have received an admit from ECE CMU and ECE Georgia Tech. My interest lies in computer architecture, FPGAs, digital design and hardware acceleration. I feel the course of CMU is better than Georgia Tech. But I am confused whether ECE CMU really worth spending extra 30K USD? At Georgia, I will have a better opportunity of getting an RA or TA. At CMU, program is professional masters while at Georgia I have an option to choose Thesis . I request you to please provide a better comparison of two programs from the perspective of my technical interests. Any help is appreciated.
  7. I recently received three ECE PhD offers from UCLA, Gatech and UIUC. It is really hard to make a decision. Could anyone give me some suggestions. I want to find an industry job after my PhD (Prefer Silicon Valley). UCLA pros: 1. High reputation 2. Good location. 3. Prestigious adviser Cons: 1. Large research group, very few attention from adviser 2. High living expenses Gatech Pros: 1. High reputation for ECE program 2. Interesting research project Cons: 1. Location (Less tech jobs in Atlanta than Los Angeles?) 2. Security UIUC Pros: 1. High reputation for ECE program Cons: 1. Location 2. Cold
  8. Hi guys, a prospect who wants to purse a BE/BME PhD degree here. I would like to ask if anyone knows in great details on the pros and cons of the Bioengineering program at the University of Washington (Seattle) and Georgia Tech. Which bioengineering disciplines are the two schools strong at? Which of the two would you rather choose to purse your PhD, and why? (history?, strong fields/faculty member, funding, weather, etc.) I really appreciate your help!!! Thank you in advance

    Georgia Tech 2018 Admits

Hi, I thought it might be good to meet each other and discuss the questions we may have. I am admitted to Georgia Tech ECE PhD program for fall 2018.
  10. I am applying for MS CS for the fall 2018 session. I am confused about which university I should choose from these four options - Columbia, Gatech, USC and Pennsylvania. My primary interest is in the are of machine learning and AI. Here are my stats - University - JIIT Noida Sector 62 CGPA - 6.8/10 (My mother was admitted due to some illness for 3 years during my college, so there is a steady decline in grades, and the trend is apparent in my transcripts. Amounts to approx 74%) GRE - 323(Q:165, V:158, AWA: 4.0) TOEFL - 107 Resume - RESUME_Final.pdf Can somebody guide me and give me some realistic chances of acceptance. I am leaning towards Columbia and Gatech, but I don't have any knowledge of their acceptance rates. Regards, Piyush Kathuria
  11. Hey Everyone, I need help choosing which university to go to! I narrowed it down to Gatech and Penn (University of Pennsylvania) from the following list: Gatech, Penn, USC (Southern California), Wisconsin-Madison, Columbia, Brown, Rutgers Interest: Computer Vision and Deep Learning Cost Restrictions: None. I am willing to figure out how to pay if the university is worth going to. Goal: Planning to do a PhD after my masters. Therefore, I plan to do a lot of research during my MS. I was able to narrow down to these 2 universities based on professors and research done at these places in CV. I am leaning towards Gatech but I'd like to hear some advice from others on future prospects of getting into good PhD programs from either school. Also, let me know if you think I should consider any of the other schools on the list. Thank you in advance!

  13. I have got admit from DPhil in University of Oxford (funded) and MSCS in Georgia Tech (not funded, but can easily get TAship). My goal is to do PhD (in case I go for GaTech, I will definitely apply for PhD) and then go for an industrial research. I have a bachelors degree from India. Can you please discuss the following points: (1) Chance of working in US/Europe (after PhD completion) (2) Reputation of the degree (3) Oxford has 3.5 yrs program while in US it will be 5 years. Thanks!

    GaTech aero decision

My status on applyweb has changed from 'To Dept. for Review' to 'Dept. Decision Made' since 1st April. I haven't received any communication from the department. Does anyone know what's going on? Have I been rejected?
  21. I got accepted into UCI and GaTech for PhDs starting Fall 2016. For UCI, I got accepted into the Informatics department as part of the Donald Bren School of Computer Sciences and for GaTech I was accepted into the Human-Centered Computing program which is prat of the School of Interactive Computing (Its one of the branches in the Computing School). I have PoI's in both places, and am being flown out to GaTech in two weeks to visit with faculty and students on their dime. I am super torn on which school I should attend. First off, I completed by B.S. at UCI, so I had that going for me when I applied. I also already live in SoCal, and so does my partner of six years. But I want to make sure I make the best decision for my Doctorate. I've heard a lot of back and forth between friends and family. I do not want to choose UCI simply because it is more convenient. My partner is planning on attending UCLA for a Masters that takes 2 years. This doesn't bother me so much, since we have agreed that if I take a PhD offer out of state they will follow after their Masters is complete. Having been together for six years, two of which were long-distance before, we are pretty confident we can make it through a possible two more years. My biggest concern is, of course, which is the better school for studying and doing research in my areas of interest? Which are: Social Media, Social Computing, AI and Games research. I do a lot of research in the affects of toxicity with the forward movement in the IoT. What do you think?
  22. This is my profile: GRE - 310 (V-149, Q-161), TOEFL - 100, CGPA - 8.31, 3 LORs from Assistant Professors from my college, West Virginia and Stanford, 4 research publications all in the field of interest, one of them in the best conference for HCI - UIST. I am applying for MS in CS with specialization in HCI and Machine Learning. What are my chances to get into UCSD, UCB, UIUC, UCI, UMCP and Gatech?
  23. I am going to Georgia Tech this Fall for pursuing PhD in Biology...... Sadly I see very less activity in the Gatech community... and I cant really find people who are joining Gatech.... If any of you guys are joining or atleast any current students reply to this.. twill be wonderful..
  24. Hello, Was just wondering if anyone got any sort of information from Georgia tech?? I got a skype interview and was wondering if there are others out there.... thanks, sat
  25. Hi Folks, I had got "Denied-Program Full" as the rejection reason for my MS CS, fall 2011 application. I would like to know if anyone can explain what exactly it implies. My immediate thinking says that my application met their requirements but admission was denied due to lack of slots. But then I have an alternative thought saying that there was no real need to evaluate the then-remaining applications (including mine) once the program became full. Now, which one would would you think as more applicable rather realistic? It will be helpful to hear, if you have been through the same and know the exact implications of "Denied-Program Full" status. Moving ahead, I have reapplied for MS CS, fall 2012 with Action-Dept. Decision Pending as the current status. How far would you feel this status is going to assure the admit? I need to mention that I had "Pre-Eval Dept. Decision Pending" when receiving the reject for fall 2011. As I have observed "Action-Dept. Decision Pending" is one step ahead of the "Pre-Eval Dept. Decision Pending". Cheers.
