    Southern Applicants

I wanted to start this post so we can track the speech pathology programs in the south. There are so many threads regarding the northern schools, it gets tiring sorting through all of the different posts. This thread is for southern school programs ONLY (ex. schools states like Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, and the Carolinas).
  4. If anyone has been accepted by UGA Georgia for PhD program, maybe we could gather and interact here?
  5. I submitted my application back at the early deadline and it was confirmed that all of my supporting materials and fees had come in a couple of weeks later, but I still haven’t heard anything? I applied to the gerontology concentration and they told me it’d only be about 2 to 3 weeks to hear back about a decision, but my admissions status is still listed as pending. I’ve tried to get in contact with someone to no avail lol. So it’d be nice to hear about how long you had to wait! Also, if you have estimates for how long it took to hear back from Georgia State, that’s good too!
  6. Looking for feedback on the Speech Pathology Graduate Programs at the following schools: 1) Auburn University 2) University of Georgia 3) Samford University 4) University of South Carolina 5) University of Tennessee- Knoxville 6) University of Memphis Any information regarding thoughts towards the programs in general, program length, accreditation, town/ location, faculty support, costs, assistantship position availability, internship placement help, housing, cohorts, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
  7. I have got admit from DPhil in University of Oxford (funded) and MSCS in Georgia Tech (not funded, but can easily get TAship). My goal is to do PhD (in case I go for GaTech, I will definitely apply for PhD) and then go for an industrial research. I have a bachelors degree from India. Can you please discuss the following points: (1) Chance of working in US/Europe (after PhD completion) (2) Reputation of the degree (3) Oxford has 3.5 yrs program while in US it will be 5 years. Thanks!
  8. Hey Guys! I was wondering - Have any of you heard back from Georgia Tech yet? I applied for the MS program (Aerospace Engg.) for Fall 2017 and I've already sent them like 3 emails. They are just not replying. :/ Do any of you have any information as to what's happening? Thanks a ton.
  9. Hi all: I applied to the University of Georgia's MPA program back in early January (the 4th if i remember correctly) for the 2017 Fall semester. Has anyone else applied for this term and heard back? I've heard back from 2 of the other MPA programs I've applied to (one good and one bad), but nothing from UGA yet? When should I expect to hear back?? Thanks!!
  10. I am an undergrad beginning applications next Fall semester, and I need advice on my current school list and perhaps any experience with the schools or living in the cities. I am primarily interested in Southern literature, theory, identity, and philosophy, Civil War literature, history, and philosophy like Transcendtalism, and African American literature from pre-Civil War to now. I plan to pursue an MA first then go on to a PhD. My current top two MA schools and potential advisers or professors with whom I am interested in working are Leigh Anne Duck and Adam Gussow at University of Mississippi and Cody Marrs at University of Georgia. Aside from University of Mississippi and Georgia, my list includes, in order, University of Alabama and Kentucky, and if I decide to pursue Rhet/Comp instead, University of Illinois. My dream PhD schools are UNC Chapel Hill and University of Virginia. I am confident in getting a good placement for the MA level, but I am concered about things like living stipend, fit with the university, and potential for improvement before moving to PhD. I have a strong application which I think will place me at the top of any MA level group of entering students, but I do not think it would be strong enough to ensure me a spot at my dream PhD schools. I will definitely be applying to an MA at Miss., Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky. Would the application fees be worth it to also apply to PhD at UNC or Virginia? Does anyone have experience with Mississippi or Georgia and their faculty working in Southern Lit? What are some schools I am not considering which also have strong Southern lit faculty? What is it like to live in Oxford, Tuscaloosa, Athens, or Lexington? How do the costs of living compare? Of the four, Alabama and Georgia offer the highest MA living stipend at $13,500 and $14,000 respectively, but Georgia expects a much higher teaching load at 3/3 for the second year. Mississippi offers $10,000, and I do not yet know Kentucky's stipend. I have chosen each of these MA schools because they offer funding. Mississippi is my top interest, but they also have the lowest stipend offer. How likely am I to get other fellowships or scholarships in addition? Will $10,000 go very far in Oxford? That is already below my lowest margin for a stipend, but Mississippi seems like where I want to be for Southern lit.
  11. Has anyone heard anything from Valdosta? I don't think I've seen any acceptances or rejections from them. If anyone has heard anything let me know!
  12. Hi, everyone! I don't think a thread has been created yet for incoming UGA graduate students this year. It would be great to talk with other incoming students as we begin the process of moving to Athens and enrolling in classes. To introduce myself, I will be attending UGA as a PhD student in the Department of Plant Biology. Did anyone attend the Accepted Graduate Students Day last Wednesday (April 6)? I am planning to attend the May 26 event and look at houses the day after.
  13. I received an acceptance letter from GA tech ISYE department, but it says that acceptance is not final until I receive one more letter from the graduate admissions office. Is there a chance of being declined admission by the institute, even after being accepted by the department ,or is it just a step to check the authenticity of the application material.I have a deadline to accept another offer by 23rd and GA Tech is on spring break till 25th.Can I be sure I will receive the other letter?Or am I risking it by letting the other offer go?
  14. Just curious if anyone has heard back from UGA about their admission status. If so, was it via email, phone, post, etc? Thanks!
