  1. Hey everybody, Im looking to apply to various programs and have been doing research + getting everything ready etc etc .... I already have 3 reference letters(2 profs who taught me + 1 who supervised me for honors thesis) from last year as I applied to medical school and didnt get(yay) in and im just going to ask the referees to make some adjustments in the letter to fit grad schools if needed. Main question is how is everyone generally going through with the process of getting the letters and how many schools are you applying to. Also has anyone used interfolio ? Im thinking of putting my reference letters on there if possible as to not bother my references.. However I've also heard most schools dont accept it. * I'm just slightly worried about my referees having to upload their letters 10 different times* On that note how many programs everyone generally applying to at once, i understand this varies for everyone situation but I just want to hear some general feedback
  2. I am currently in the process of applying to PhD programs in environmental science/tropical ecology and conservation. I know–more or less– what schools I will be applying to. I also know who will be writing my letters of recommendation for me... but I do not know how they need to be sent to the schools I am applying for. I've heard about Interfolio, and I'm not sure what else it out there. I graduated from UCLA and UCLA offers a LoR service for alumni, but it is much more expensive than Interfolio. I've also heard about LoR writers mailing the letters to the schools themselves? I've tried to look into how you actually submit letters to grad school, and I still feel so confused. How do you actually send the letter to the school? I know it can be school specific, but any advice on the following would be much appreciated: - HOW do you send letters of rec to the schools you are applying to? - What services for sending LoR electronically is the best? (ex. Interfolio, through your alma mater?) This may seem like such a trivial question (and I'm sure I'l look back thinking it was a silly thing to ask), but I am just plain confused on how my LoRs need to get where they are supposed to go. Thanks!!
  3. Hi all, I just paid for the Interfolio service, only to find that it is likely not to work with a majority of my school programs. I thought it'd be helpful to have some data on what applications do and do not accept the service, so that future applicants can make a better choice than I did. Attached is a google doc. If you have had any positive or negative experiences with the service, feel free to edit! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14Gu4_uCx7ROtJPskRFaZ5JihRNDLHr1SXKlxxJWW0tk/edit?usp=sharing
  4. I have seen a lot of threads about Interfolio, but it is still confusing. I have already sent my letters to many universities with no problem, but I am having doubts regarding universities that expressly state that they do not accept letters through Interfolio. My confusion arises from the fact that Interfolio can deliver the letters in two different ways: directly to the university or through the online application. Of course that I am sending my letters through the online application. For example, Michigan's Political Science Department says the following: " The letters of recommendation should be submitted through the online application system. Instructions for submission can be found HERE. At this time we are not able to accept letters from letter services such as Interfolio." If Interfolio is able to upload the letter to the online application system (as they manage to do with most portals), would they accept my letter? I mean, perhaps the warning from UMich is referring to the fact that they do not accept letters directly from Interfolio but they are not considering the possibility of Interfolio uploading it directly to the online application. Anyone knows? Thanks!
