Hey all, Im an undergrad majoring in Economics and I am thinking of applying to IPED, but I'm not sure if I can get in because I don't have any experience in the peace corp or any other service job.. But I think I have a good background otherwise, president of my uni's economics club, I'm the economics department representative for our uni's student senate, presented economic research at many conferences and won awards for it, have completed 15 other economics research projects as well. I studied abroad in Japan for a year, model UN twice, worked as a student ambassador for my university's business program, and this summer I will be interning at my states department of revenue economics forecasting office, and some other stuff... but I'm not sure if that is good enough for IPED without work experience in development. Any insight into my situation would be much appreciated!
Hello everyone! I wanted to start a thread to see if there are any other applicants who applied to, or have heard back from, Fordham's IPED program. I know it is one of the smaller programs, but it also provides many funding opportunities and has some unique partnerships and career trajectories.
Hello everyone, I just received an e-mail from Fordham stating I was accepted into the IPED program 2016-2017! Woohoo! This is one of my top choices, and I visited the department this past August and really like the program. I am an RPCV and so had applied for the Coverdell Fellowship. However, I was just notified that I am being offered an Arrupe Fellowship. I'm ecstatic that I am being offered funding, but at the same time I'm a bit confused by the offer. Part of the conditions of applying for the Arrupe is that you explicitly express your desire to work for a non-profit and for Catholic Relief Services upon graduation (as well as a couple other technical things as part of the application process). Not only did I not do any of the things required for the application for the Arrupe, I explicitly expressed interest in mutually exclusive fellowships. Additionally, the conditions of the fellowship require me to take courses outside of my expressed field of interest. My question is, what does this mean exactly? Were the other fellowships that I applied for filled by more qualified applicants and this was simply offered to me as the next best fit? Could there possibly be any chance that it was a mix up and someone else out there applied for the Arrupe and got something else? Does anyone have any advice for how I should ask Fordham about this? Anyone want to trade fellowships?
