  1. Hi guys, I haven't seen a topic for fall 2017 applicants for masters programs in business and i/o psych yet, so I thought I'd start one. Where is everyone applying? What are your credentials? What's the status on your application? These are the programs I'm applying to: - Master of Applied Positive Psychology - University of Pennsylvania - MA in IO Psychology - NYU - Masters in Computational Social Science - University of Chicago - MS in Marketing Science - Columbia - MS in Global Marketing Management - Boston University - MA in Positive Organizational Psychology and Evaluation - Claremont Graduate University - MS in Human Resource Management and Development - NYU Regarding my credentials, I have a 3.96 GPA, lots of research experience, and 156V/158Q/5.5W on the GRE.
  2. Hi there, I am an aspiring PhD applicant for fall 2018 and planning to put in applications in top schools in US/EU. My areas of interest include Gender studies, collective, culture and management. The main dilemma I am facing is, whether to apply in US universities or European universities including UK. When I look up rankings of development studies programs many UK universities come to top. I am still in dilemma what to do. My research topic is not yet decided but I have interest areas which makes applying to UK universities a bit problematic. I need some advise on how to shortlist the target universities for application. My profile: Computer Science grad, Rural development masters (from top institute in India)and 3 years of hardcore development experience based on tribal women collectives. I have no publication. I have average grades throughout, very active in extracurricular and sports. In current job qualitative research tools forms part of daily tasks. I am also capable of conducting quantitative research and can program models in various programming languages. I can get good LoRs as well as writing sample from masters projects. I would appreciate a frank response on how my profile looks and what message it conveys to people who want to make some sense out of it. Any tips for improvement will be a big plus.
  3. Hello all! Longtime lurker, first time poster. Is anyone else here going out for any Theatre/Arts Management/Administration masters? This is my first year applying for grad schools so I really just dipped my toes in the water to test it out, though the eternal pessimist in me is telling me to not expect much this year. Most of my deadlines were at the beginning of January, so I know we still have a while to wait, but it's definitely difficult! Does anyone else have any stories/anecdotes/updates/etc., or just want to chat about the process? Best of luck to all!
  4. I am wondering will a school frown down upon a 303 GRE score. I studied for a few months and the first time I took it I scored 300, 146 quant and 154 verbal with a 4.0 writing. I waited 21-days and retook again, scoring a total of 303, 148 quant, 155 verbal and I am still waiting on my writing score. I have my Master's in Industrial/Organizational Pyschology and I have three years of research experience. Please advise!

  8. Yale FES vs Michigan SNRE

Hello Gradcafe, Struggling with a good problem to have. Got admitted to Yale's School of Forestry (FES) as well as University of Michigan's School of Natural Resources and the Environment (SNRE). Yale degree is Masters of Environmental Management; Michigan is Masters of Science. My research interests are renewable energy, green chemistry, arctic climate policy, and life cycle assessment. Both gave me equivalent financial packages. Visited UM before visit day and Yale at the open house. I'm torn about which to choose. Part of me feels like it would be silly to turn down Yale because its the golden key that will open a lot of doors. Something tells me the folks at Michigan seem a bit more realistic and pragmatic. They work in Flint and Detroit. Yale has opportunities (so many) around the world. Another major difference is structure: FES has no required courses (candy shop), whereas SNRE has a few core classes and a larger emphasis on tracks. So does anyone have any thoughts? Did anyone suffer with a similar decision? Anyone have any comments on the structures, outcomes, and attitudes of the two programs? So much help..seriously... I have eaten so many Tums (tm) the last week. With thanks and gratitude, greenisgood
  9. USC GERONTOLOGY

Hey everybody!! It's rare to see gerontology applicant posts so I decided to start one! USC is my dream gerontology program and I'm really anxious, nervous, nauseous, to hear my decision. I don't know of any of gerontology students so if you are a gerontology student let's network! We are a rare breed haha. We can use this to talk gerontology programs, schools, admission decisions and just help each other out through the process of graduate admissions! I have applied to USC, CSULB, CSUF, and University of La Verne. Haven't heard from USC, CSULB, or CSUF but I got accepted to La Verne for Fall 2016 Gerontology! YAY!!
  10. All, I have graduated with a BS. in Computer Engineering, and have 1 year of grad school in Electrical Engineering under my belt. I withdrew this past year because I didn't have the finances to continue (working part time, company not helping and paying for tuition wasn't cutting it) My idea now is to go to school in the EU, and switch up my degree program a little bit. After working in a cubicle the last few years I think that I'm not suited to be a conventional EE and want to get into the management side of things. I have been looking for dual Masters degres in engineering and business, but can't find too many. I found http://www.mastersportal.eu/studies/24106/electronics-electrical-engineering-management.html%20which%20seems%20great, but the international tuition would run me about 30G. Does anyone know of other combined masters programs that are in English? I have been looking in Germany (Cheap/Free tuition) but haven't found any similar degree programs in English, only German, English split. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!
  11. Anyone apply to one of the Phd Management programs at Purdue? This school is my #1 choice. The admission statistics say that a whopping 6% are accepted. I also heard that Purdue prefers to admit its own graduates. I have applied to 4 universities. And have been accepted to 1, but funding decisions are still pending. February appears to be the critical month for all 4 applications.
  12. Hello guys, I recently applied to OB PhD programs and in the process of waiting for interviews/admission results. Haven't seen a forum page for OB applicants (let me know if there is already one!) and thought I'd just open up a new thread to share information. Is there anyone who already received interview offers or admission results (reject/admit)?

  14. MEM 2012 applicants

Similar to last year's MEM 2011 thread, anyone applying to Master of Environmental Management or Environmental Policy programs is welcome to share their info and thoughts regarding the application process. Program Applied To: MA in Environmental Studies, MS in Natural Resources & Environment, MEM Schools Applied To: Brown University CES (MA), Duke University Nicholas School (MEM), University of Michigan SNRE (MS), Yale University FES (MEM) Schools Accepted To: Undergraduate Institution: UMass Undergraduate GPA: 3.41, 3.82 last 3 semesters Undergraduate Major: Political Science GRE Quantitative Score: 650 (59%) GRE Verbal Score: 590 (84%) GRE AW Score: 5.0 (84%) Years Out of Undergrad (if applicable): 0.5 Years of Work Experience: 1 Describe Relevant Work Experience: Internship with NGO focused on biodiversity and wildlife protection, internship with environmental writing website, internship at law office. Worked on a farm for the past few months. Strength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): Likely the best component of my application. My numbers are solid enough to make any cutoffs but unlikely to affect much beyond that, so it was crucial to compose the strongest SOP possible. Brown also requires a 10-page writing sample -- I polished and revised it quite a bit, with assistance from two GradCafe members! Strength of LOR (be honest, describe the process, etc): 1 from political science professor who I had for two courses (1 seminar and 1 upper-level), 1 from public policy professor (former mayor of city and currently the highest position in the state's conservation department), 1 from internship supervisor (wildlife biologist). Tried to find a complementary balance between the three. Best of luck to everyone!
