  1. Decided to start a thread for those of us applying to Canadian international affairs programs this fall/winter. Post stats, advice, or anything related to this topic!
  2. This thread is for anyone applying to the Munk School of Global Affairs program for Fall 2018.
  3. Hey all, I'm a current graduate student at Carleton University reading for an MA in international affairs (NPSIA). I'm enjoying the content of my studies immensely, but have more or less lost interest in leveraging my degree to work for the public service upon graduation. As NPSIA has a strong focus on placing students within the government, I realize that more schooling will likely be necessary to find employment elsewhere. I've been playing with the idea of pursuing a career in conflict/political journalism for some time now, and have heard good things about the Munk School's Fellowship in Global Journalism. It seems a practical course of study, with a strong focus on teaching fellows how to set themselves up for freelance careers. Given my education and interests, this sounds like an ideal fit for me. The issue lies in that most of the information that I've been able to dig up has been provided by the school itself - Obviously, U of T is going to be biased in promoting its own program to potential applicants. I was wondering whether or not anybody might have had some sort of experience with the program on these forums; I'd love to hear some anecdotes regarding the program's utility, and whether or not the sort of freelance work it purports to equip one for is a viable means of making a living in itself. If you've anything to say, I'd be extremely grateful to hear it. Likewise, if anybody has any questions for me, I'm happy to acquiesce as well. Cheers, Delidas
  4. Hi guys, I have been accepted to the MA program at Johns Hopkins SAIS, the MIA program at UCSD School of Global Policy and Strategy and the MGA program at Munk School of Global Affairs. I have read tons of info about these programs and I have attended the Open House events at SAIS and UCSD. However, I am still undecided. What do you think is the best program in terms of employability and education considering that I am an international student who wants to find a job in North America? My area of specialization is international economics and I would like to work in consulting/think-tanks/business/banks. Thanks!!
  5. I am having a very diffiecult time deciding betweent uoft MGA and graduate institute geneva (iheid) for international development major. In terms of job prospects, name value and quality of education, does anyone have insight?
  6. The title pretty much explains it. I wanted to open up a new post on the pros and cons and overall verdict of each school that is up to date. I believe the last time this was posted about was in 2015. Open to input from current applicants: Which are you choosing? and alumni: Did you love/hate your choice and why? Looking forward to this!
  7. Hey everyone applying to international and global affairs programs in Ontario, I've applied to NPSIA, and Munk for next year. figured I'd start a forum for everyone applying this year. I'm sure we could collectively answer a lot of each other's questions. My Munk app currently says "Under Review", and NPSIA just moved to "recommended for assessment". Does anyone know how many applicants there were last year, and also the number of those accepted in 2017? Good luck to us all, Dean
  8. Hi all, I thought I'd start a thread specifically for those of us applying to Munk and other Canadian international affairs programs for fall 2017. Topic name begins with Munk simply because that's my first choice lol Applications haven't opened yet but I figured, why not Here's last cycle's thread:
