  1. I'm about to enroll in a University of Phoenix online "Fundamentals of Physics" course. Does anyone have experience with this class (quality of teaching or difficulty?) or any other prerequisites with University of Phoenix? I've seen plenty negative reviews on Univ. of Phoenix, but since I'm just doing a single course, I'm hoping it won't be too bad. The math placement exam was HARD for me! Is the difficulty of that test indicative of the difficulty of the course?? Thanks!
  2. I’m currently applying for a masters of science SLP program at my state university. But as I do more research, I realize that this degree will take long to acquire and the pay outlook in my state is subpar at best, but I would like to do this profession later in life for sure. During research, I’ve come across another masters degree in instructional design and tech that I’ve fallen hard for (I'm loving educational tech) and has a better job outlook and pay expectation but it’s not something I think I could do in my older age or as tech changes so frequently. I want both degrees and I think both degrees can be used later to benefit each other so while I have the capacity, I’d like to do them both now. Is it possible and legal to apply, get accepted and attend 2 different universities at the same for 2 different degrees? I’d like to add that one program is an MS and the other is M.Ed, also one school is a state university and the other is an online (out of state) college that does not accept government financial aid so financial aid/loans wouldn’t be a conflict. Note: I know that 2 masters programs will be very time consuming and hard but I do not intent to work full time while completing them and the MS is extended over a few years while the M.Ed is only one year.
  3. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good online graduate program online in Art History (preferably with an emphasis on ancient history, but I know many MA programs give a broader range of course material). I know that Academy of Art University has an online degree in Art History, but since it's a for-profit school, I don't feel like it would be a respected way to pursue my goals. Aside from that, the only place I have found that has an online program for Art History is Lindenwood University, which I hadn't heard of until I went on a search for a school in the U.S. that had an online Art History graduate program. The local university does not offer art history even at a BA level and I cannot yet afford to move again, so if I want to pursue my second MA, I would have to do it via distance/online learning. Thanks, all!
  4. Hello everyone. I am wondering if anyone knows if online programs like Laurentian Universities' (I know they are having a hard time currently) Online BA in Psychology - (Honors) program could qualify for CRPO certification or at least lead to a Masters Program worth enough for CRPO certification? I know it is not on the approved list, and CRPO is not able to say without an actual application, so I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this? I have been accepted to a few Brick and Mortar Universities but my life situation is pointing towards Online Education being more suitable for me currently. And since I need an Honors Program to go for a Master of Psychology and I need it to be online, Laurentian is all I have found. Any help would be much appreciated.
  5. I am in my senior year of philosophy at an online college. I've been thinking about studying a masters degree in philosophy, but for the near future (2-3 years) my only options would be online (there is nothing around and I cannot relocate). What do you think about Edinburgh's MSc in Epistemology, Ethics and Mind? Is this a good option if I want to apply to a PhD program after said period, at what point I'd be able to relocate?
  6. I was admitted to a humanities research MPhil with taught methodological components. Does anyone know -- or have some sense as to -- whether Cambridge will be online next year? If not, can one petition to complete such a course online?
  7. Hi everyone, I am looking for a Masters degree (or even a PhD) that is available through online distance learning. The field I am looking for is History... or a closely related field. There are some programs like the one at the University of Edinburgh but I am looking for something that is cheaper than that. Doesn't matter which country. If anyone knows, please help. Thanks in advance...
  8. Creating a thread for those waiting to hear decisions from Laurier for the online part time MSW to begin in May 2021.
  9. Hello all! Has anyone heard anything about the University of Montana's online SLP program? I am interested in it but can not find any info on it? Is anyone in the program? Is anyone planning to apply this fall? Thanks in advance!!
  10. Hi All, I had a question that I was hoping I could get some insight on. I am in a current speech pathology program at CSUSM. I am not very happy with the program as I feel it is extremely impacted and I don't feel any of the professors really seem interested in guiding any of there future SLP's. I was wondering if anyone knew of some great prepatory SLP online program here in California? I am open to any and all or in Arizona. I have only taken 2 courses and I am already feeling I may have chosen the wrong school. I did some research and my college didn't even pop-up for possible prepatory programs. I am very grateful for being given the opportunity to attend but I am feeling very frustrated. I would greatly appreciate any and all insight and recommendations to help me through this difficult time. Thank You, DreamsOfSLP86
  11. Has anyone taken online classes at ENMU? I'm pretty sure classes start in less than a week and I haven't received any information about a syllabus or anything. What was your experience with this? Any tips? I'm taking Aural Rehab with Hall and Research and Evidence Based Practice with Bennett. Thanks!!
  12. Hi there!! I have been doing extensive research and trying to decide which Online MSW programs to apply too. I am really curious about anyones experience on the program you chose and if you are happy with it. I'm a bit nervous to bite the bullet on an online program, but I can't financially swing something totally in-person since I'll be working to pay for school!! A little bit about me: - This would be my second Master's, first in Public Administration - Decided I wanted to transition to clinical Social Work with an emphasis in counseling. - Considering Simmons and Case Western, but horrified on the reviews from Simmons. It sounds good on paper, but hard to tell what it is actually like!!
  13. Hello all, I have applied to Denver University and was accepted. I live about an hour away and would have to drive there two days a week. I have also applied to Metropolitan State University Denver, which has an online MSW program. I am wondering if anyone has experience with an online MSW program and/or if going in-person is better? I have taken online classes before and I do fine. The other question I have is if the name matters in MSW programs? DU is a lot more expensive, but also has a better-known program than MSU. Any help is appreciated!
  14. Hi there, I'm new to TheGradCafe and couldn't seem to find a forum about only California / online schools, so I thought I'd start one to get some insight on other people's experience. I applied to San Francisco, San Jose, CSUN (online) and UNR (online) and am waiting to hear back from all of them (although I have an interview scheduled with CSUN)! Is anyone applying or waiting for similar schools? Or know of the timeline by which we hear back from any? Naturally, I'm feeling anxious and eager to hear back, but I know it helps me to hear about other people being in the same boat. Congrats to everyone working hard, and I wish you all the best!
  15. Hello! I have been finishing my bachelors degree online because it is the best fit for my family. It is not an exclusively online university, I just don't live on or near campus. I started my college career in-person at a different school, and had to transfer to a different school, and online, when we had a baby. Will this prevent me from getting into PhD programs? Will I be taken seriously? Does anyone else have experience with this?
  16. Hi! Has anyone been accepted into the Jan 2020 cohort for Emerson or applied to any other online programs such as NYU, Baylor?? How long did it take for you to hear back? I'm waiting and it's super nerve wrecking being it's my 2nd time applying for speech. Thanks!
  17. Hello! Has anyone interviewed with Emerson for their online program? Was it difficult at all? Any info would help! In an email from my advisor, she indicated I had to schedule one when I'm ready. Super nervous Thanks!
  18. Hello! I’m looking into online/distance SLP grad programs. I’m already $65k in debt, so I don’t want to pay more than $15k per year (I’m located in CA so I know there’s some restrictions because of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). I have good grades (3.8+ GPA, great LoC’s and above avg GRE scores). I got accepted to emerson and NYU with scholarships but it didn’t cover enough of the cost. I really like North Colorado University, CSUN, and Akron University. Id prefer to do my clinical practice/extends hips towards the end of the program because I’m working as a nanny and committed to 1.5 years, they are flexible and will allow me to travel up to 3 weeks for clinical/labs. What is your best experience?
  19. I just received a call from ENMU that I was taken off the waitlist and accepted. I said yes but will call back with final decision. It was my last choice but now its my only choice for starting fall 2019 or else I will apply to a different program that is in my state and residential for Spring 2020, whose program I love. I am unsure about this hybrid-online program but mainly worried about the online portion. I have had bad classes in undergrad that were online and I am hesitant on fully accepting. If you are part of an online program please help me. Is the ENMU hybrid-online program good? Any information on the program or any online program would be of great help! Edit: After researching and talking to someone in the program at ENMU I have decided to accept this offer. One positive note is not having to endure the long application process again.
  20. Hi! I am planning on applying to Columbia's MSW Online Advanced Standing Program here in the fall, I was hoping someone who applied in past years or who might be in the program can give me some insight as to what they might be looking for, how to make me a more competitive candidate or anything to help out a stressed college student. Thank you much!
  21. HI! I'm interested in applying to SLP online programs. The ones I'm interested in are Baylor, Emerson and NYU for January 2020. Is anyone else also applying? Or is anyone currently in any of these programs? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Hi all, I’ve been accepted to two online MPH programs — Michigan and Dartmouth — and am having a lot of trouble deciding between the two. Both will cost me about the same. I plan to work full time during the program and use the degree to move up within my current field (management consulting). I understand Michigan has an actual School of Public Health, whereas Dartmouth’s program is housed within the medical school. Does this matter? Which will look better to employers (should I decide to move firms)? Both programs look fascinating but focus on different areas of public health. Dartmouth’s program is hybrid (requires 3 campus visits a year) and has a heavy emphasis on quality improvement, policy, and data analysis. Michigan’s program is completely online and more of a traditional MPH. I have one week to make a decision! Any feedback/input would be greatly appreciated!
  23. I had been rejected from UT Austin's on campus MS CS for Fall 19 and they offered me an online MS admit instead. The program is new, starting in Fall 19. While I have an admit from another lesser ranked school, Austin was my first choice. I have heard Georgia Tech allows you to convert from the online program to the on campus one after a year. Can I join the other school and transfer to UT Austin's on campus MS CS after a semester? What do they usually look for when transferring schools? I know its a long shot, given that I have already been handed out a reject, but wanted to know my options and chances. Thanks in Advance.
  24. I got accepted to NYU and Emerson's online SLP programs recently but both are very expensive. Also, Emerson's program has clinical placements starting very soon (I work) and I'd have to take a pre-requisite that would put me back another $4k. I only applied to these two schools because I didn't have the GRE/letters of rec figured out before the CSDCAS deadline. I was banking on financial aid to help me since I'm now considered an independent and got an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of $0. I submitted it sorta late, like mid April and added the two schools last week. I already have ~$60k of debt and don't want to go into any more. I have decent stats; 151V, 149Q, 4.5W 3.84 cumulative, 3.75 department GPA and lots of experience with research/ABA. Should I pick NYU/Emerson or should I reapply next year, pay off some loans and then choose?
  25. Hi there everyone! I applied to CSUN, CSUSB, and LSU for their MSW online programs. Has anyone heard anything? I have received emails from all of them that they have my applications, but nothing more than that. CSUSB sent me an email saying I was accepted by the school now I need acceptance into the school of social work. fingers crossed. They are my first choice, since it is the cheapest program.
