  1. What kind of positions are there for an organizational psychologist whose primary interest is leadership and organizational ethics?
  2. Four years out of undergrad. Great work experience so far, interning and then later clerking for a year with Speaker of the House of Representatives at the state capitol. Spent last two years working for a large, national nonprofit coordinating a 35,000 person volunteer program. It's been a little less than half a year since I was promoted to Grants Manager in which I apply for and oversee half of a $1.7 million grants budget. Hold a Bachelors of Science, double major in Philosophy and Law. (3.9 GPA) Two study abroads under my belt. Lots of community involvement. Served on a board of directors, built some houses, scholarship panel for several years, etc. Letters of Rec from Speaker of the House, Chief of Staff, and Vice President of the public education foundation in Nashville. All I know personally. I should mention that the Speaker holds a doctorate from Peabody. I took the GRE 3 1/2 weeks ago first time. Got a 305 (148Q; 157V; 4AWA). Retook yesterday and got a 314 (155Q; 159V) I expect my writing to come back at a 4.5-5.0 range. What are my chances of getting into Vanderbilt Peabody's M.Ed. in Leadership and Organizational Performance?
  3. Hello. I just joined the forums because I need help but have no one to ask around me. I just got accepted to Columbia University's MA program in Social-Organizational (IO) Psychology. I understand that the program is mostly designed for students who are looking for a terminal program. I hear it is possible for students to continue their studies into a doctorate but it is not so common because the program itself isn't research based, but rather theory based. However, I don't want to rule out the option to obtain a PhD in case I do decide to continue my studies. The MA program at Columbia does not seem to be the ideal choice IF i decide to go all the way (for a PhD). On the other hand, I have also been accepted to Roosevelt University here in Chicago, for a PhD program. The school might not be as prestigious as Columbia University; however, it does give me an option to continue all the way for a PhD degree from the get go. I understand that Columbia University is a more prestigious institution known around the world, and furthermore, it is possible to continue all the way to a PhD, but I would be the minority and it is not the conventional route. However, If I end up deciding to go to Roosevelt University, it would be a more straightforward path towards a PhD. In conclusion, I guess what I am arguing with myself is whether I should choose a more prestigious school for an MA and limited opportunity for doctorate, or rather a local university where I can obtain an PhD at a more straightforward path. Thank you in advance for your input! I appreciate it.
  4. Hey Everyone! Stats (graduating this spring, 23 years old) = 3.0 GPA, 3.7 Psych Gpa, taking gre this weekend. Psychology major/Business Minor and 1 year of research assistance. 3 years of sales and management experience in the auto repair industry. I am getting ready to apply to graduate school and I just want to know if anyone has, or knows anyone in a similar situation. I have been working full time since the day I turned 18 and let my GPA fluctuate throughout the process. When I finally decided I wanted to pursue I/O, i switched from business to psych and haven't gotten a bad grade since(including stats and research methods). I can practically recite every program's average GPA's and acceptance percentages, So I dont expect to get into a top tier program. But I do want to get into a decent on-campus, public program. Has anyone with stats like mine squeezed through the admissions process? If so, what schools accepted you? Any information or advice helps!
  5. Hello, I will be attending school for an I/O Psychology master's degree in the near future. If possible, I would like to do mental health counseling as well, on a part-time basis. My question is: After completing a master's degree in I/O Psych, what is my best option to prepare myself to do this? Instead of completing an entirely separate degree, is there additional or supplemental schooling I can complete? A friend of mine mentioned a certificate might be possible. I'm just exploring my other options. Thank you! Nate
