  1. Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences graduate program? I seem as though they are looking for candidacy to be accredited? I am not too sure. Any info will help! Thank you!
  2. Hi everyone! I just recently decided that I will be attending Teachers College, Columbia University in the fall to begin my M.S. in Communication Sciences & Disorders. I just made a youtube channel where I have posted reactions to my admissions decisions and a video about why I chose TC. This channel will be a "lookbook" of my life throughout graduate school. Please like, comment, and subscribe!! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMIgNkX2Gz5UiNqXpH7Yw9Q

    Penn State Decision

Hey guys! I recently got accepted into Penn State's Master's program for speech and I'm super nervous about committing. The program offers everything I want, but I am nervous about the town and housing. I am from NYC and I am nervous about moving to the middle of PA. Can anyone tell me some good things about the area (things to do, festivals, shopping, etc.)? Also was wondering if their downtown is fun. I appreciate any input!

Will my GRE score ruin my chances?

I didn't have much time to study for my GRE, and I'm not a native English speaker (I'm an international student) so I scored 148 and 147 in verbal & quant. I have a high gpa, undergrad degree in comm. disorders, over 300 hours of work experience in the field, more than 90 hours of direct contact, good recommendation letters, I'm a trilingual, I have much to offer but I'm afraid my GRE score will ruin my chances. do you guys have any idea if I can pass with these scores? and my analytical writing scores haven't come out yet.
  7. Hi all, I am looking to hear from those of you who have attended any of these schools for SLP grad school. Idaho state, university of Montana, BYU, University of Northern Colorado, Wyoming, Washington State, and Easter Washington University. Some question I have specifically: 1. Do a lot of students receive funding? I will by an out of state resident and some of the schools listed don't offer to WGRP, so I will have to pay out of state tuition. I am wondering how likely it is to get it waived or get funding to help with the cost? I have competitive application: 3.98 GPA, 152 V 158 Q, 4.0 AW. 2. What are your experiences with the clinic? Do you feel like you are learning within the clinic and are becoming ready to be working on your own? 3. What is the major focus at your school? Thanks for all your help! I greatly appreciate it!
  8. Hello there! I'm an out-of-field student (majored in History) who is looking to apply to grad school for SLP for Fall 2019! I'm currently looking at the following schools: San Jose State University CSU East Bay UT Dallas Northern Arizona University Marquette University Montclair State University Grand Valley State University University of the Pacific University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign Here are my stats: 3.97 GPA, Currently taking prerequisite classes and will have 2 by application, 161V/160Q/4.5W. I was a teaching intern at a literacy/creative writing nonprofit, worked at my college's writing center for 3 years, worked with elderly people at a safe/affordable housing nonprofit, was an AmeriCorps college access counselor for low-income high school students of color, and currently work at a speech therapy private practice with preschoolers. I'm also certified as a Registered Behavior Technician and hope to soon start doing ABA therapy at my current job. Is there anything else I can do to improve my application? What are my chances for getting into the schools above? Thanks!
  9. Hello everyone, I am kinda freaking out right now because idk if I will get accepted into an SLP Master's Program. I know that it's a very competitive field and I don't have the best statuses. Here are my stats, Overall GPA 3.3, Major GPA 3.5, GRE: 139V 142Q 3.0AW (I know its bad Dx). I am planning to retake the GRE one more time before August and hoping to get in the 150's (I've been using Magoosh and it's been helping. The practice tests say I would probably score 145-150, but I still have a month til my test). I currently live in Nevada and there's only one Master's program here. I am currently looking at these schools: Old Dominion, Hampton University, distance programs such as Nova and NYU Steinfield, Louisiana State University, Arizona State University, etc. If you applied or was accepted can you tell me how you like it and if I have a chance of being accepted. Thank you everyone~
  10. Hi all, I am thinking about taking a graduate level class online through ENMU. I am currently on the waitlist and I'm hoping it will help me out. The director of the program said the one in the summer is 6-8 weeks long and moves quickly. I have all summer off bc I work for a school district. This should be perfect, right? I feel a little intimidated bc it's graduate level and fast paced. Has anyone taken a graduate level speech class like this online that is this short? Just looking for other ppls experience with this. Thank you!

    Grad school tuition question

All schools seem to advertise their tuition as [insert amount here] per year. So, if a school advertises its tuition as $10,000/year, is that for two semesters or three? If it’s for two semesters, would tuition for three semesters (a real year) actually be $15,000? In addition to this, if a grad program is 5 consecutive semesters, then that’s only 18 months, so on a calendar, just a year and a half? This is relevant to room and board expenses. Paying for 19 months of room and board is way different than 24.
  12. Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from Jackson State Universtiy? Applications were due at the beginning of March. I've yet to hear anything, but I saw someone posted in the admission results that they got accepted into the program already. Thank you!
  13. Hi! I was just accepted to Worcester on Monday and am very excited. Does anyone know anything about the program? I saw that we have a short intro class in May.. is there any other classes this summer besides that one or do we begin in August?
  14. Hi! I have been accepted to LIU Post, Hofstra, and St. John's for the speech language pathology graduate programs. I'm having trouble deciding on which school I would like to attend. I'm hoping someone could give me some input or insight on each program to help me make my decision? If anyone knows anything about the SLP programs at any of these three schools, please comment and let me know! Thank you!
  15. Hello, This is addressed to current and past students who have attended AND completed Eastern New Mexico's Masters of Communication Disorder's hybrid-program. If you have the same or similar questions please do not re-post question. If you have a different question addressed to this group feel free to add. Questions: What circumstances impacted your decision to attending ENMU? (i.e. family, affordability, distance, etc) How responsive are the faculty and the professors? If you had difficulty reaching them, what resources did you turn to? What was the most challenging aspect of the first semester? What were your thoughts on your practicum placements? If you were required to relocate, how far did you move? How do tests and finals work out? If you graduated, how prepared were you for your CF year and or your career as an SLP? Any other comments you may have on the program
  16. It just started up last year and there are four courses listed (intro to language science, phonetics, hearing science, and anatomy and physiology of speech). The coordinator says to hope to open up all the classes within the next year as long as demands are met. You can take whichever courses you need as long as they are available They are 8-week long online courses. SDSU's graduate program (not to be confused with the essentials) is known to be #1 in California and #24 in the nation. It doesn't require application, but it doesn't guarantee acceptance into their graduate program. I'm not quite sure if I should do the essentials program or just apply for postbacc program. My GPA isn't the highest, so this seems like a good option, but I don't know when all the classes will be available... and I don't know if all the classes that will become available will fulfill the prerequisites and/or qualifications for other graduate programs. I have at least three possible choices: 1. Keep applying to Post-baccs. 2. Take courses through SDSU SLP Essentials and hope they'll offer all the courses. If they do, eventually apply for graduate school. 3. Take courses through SDSU SLP Essentials and continue to apply for postbaccs. (In this situation, will the classes I already took be taken off of the list that I need to take in the postbacc?) Please let me know what opinions you have on my situation. If you have any suggestions, or if you would like to share your own experiences, I'd be happy to read them. Thanks! Click here for information on the SDSU SLP Essentials Program

    MS --> PhD

Hello Everyone! This is my first post on GradCafe. Still not totally familiar with the platform but it seems very resourceful. I am currently working on a MS in Biology at a state school in CA. My thesis is focused on coronary artery disease. I intend to advance to the PhD level upon completion of my program. Not entirely certain what areas as of yet. I am leaning towards biomedical sciences or cell biology programs. I would like advice from those that have made the transition from the masters world to the PhD world. I suppose any person from any discipline can weigh in on this question. Do top-tier programs tend to not select students that already have a grad degree? Is it possible to finish sooner? Was there a significant lifestyle change? Anything else that you would like to add would be greatly appreciated!
  19. Hi! I am someone who is reapplying to schools after not getting in the first time. Its been 2 years since I last applied. I'm wondering if I should expect to get in this time with my scores. (they have improved quite a bit in verbal) I want to start grad school more than anything right now but I really think that my scores on the GRE/ my GPA will hold me back. Tell me what you think ! GRE: (V: 152 - 56th percentile) (Q- 149) (W: 3.0) GPA: 3.67 Thanks for your help! Dani
  20. I got put on the waiting list for Pacific U's SLP masters program. Anyone else? I'm curious how many there are. Also, they said they don't disclose wait list positions which makes it harder to know if I should wait it out or not. Anyone else have this concern?

    April 15 resolution

I was just accepted into a graduate program that follows the april 15th resolution, what exactly does this mean? If I accept this offer then get off the waitlist at a preferred school does this mean I am not allowed to rescind my acceptance or just ask their permission? The april 15th resolution states: "Students are under no obligation to respond to offers of financial support prior to April 15; earlier deadlines for acceptance of such offers violate the intent of this Resolution. In those instances in which a student accepts an offer before April 15 and subsequently desires to withdraw that acceptance, the student may submit in writing a resignation of the appointment at any time through April 15. However, an acceptance given or left in force after April 15 commits the student not to accept another offer without first obtaining a written release from the institution to which a commitment has been made. Similarly, an offer by an institution after April 15 is conditional on presentation by the student of the written release from any previously accepted offer. It is further agreed by the institutions and organizations subscribing to the above Resolution that a copy of this Resolution or a link to the URL should accompany every scholarship, fellowship, traineeship, and assistantship offer." Thanks in advance!

    MGHIHP Speech Path?

Hi everyone! Like many of you, I'm having a really hard time making a decision. MGH was originally my top choice. I have always been really impressed by its clinical affiliations, on campus clinic, and of course its amazing reputation. However, I noticed that MGH requires about 20 more credits than the other schools and requires an extra semester of classes. Many of its semesters also require 6 or 7 classes as opposed to 3 like many of the other schools do. I wanted to know if you enjoyed your experience, and whether you found the work load to be overwhelming. Did you find these extra classes to be beneficial in your placements? I have heard some stories of other girls in the program who were mentally and emotionally drained by MGH's demanding workload. Although I love MGH, I can't help but wonder whether I would be slightly less stressed out at another program in Boston. If anyone is currently at MGH or went to MGH or had a friend at MGH, I was wondering what your opinion on this was. Is the workload crazy? Is it manageable? Did you like it? Thank you so much in advance!!
