  1. Last year PSU announced admission decisions in early March, so I’m getting anxious to hear! I’m an out of state applicant. I loved the city and their campus, but was most impressed by their emphasis on medical. I’m curious to hear why others applied here. Also would love to know if anyone has heard anything from them yet.
  2. Hi! I was recently accepted to Lewis & Clark College for counseling and am interviewing at Portland State University this week. I haven't been accepted to PSU yet, obviously, so this might end up being a moot point, but I strongly prefer Lewis & Clark and wanted to see if anyone has any input. My main areas of concern are: Cost - L&C is more expensive by around $10,000 total, but from what I've heard from both PSU and Lewis & Clark is that they are more supportive of working during the program. PSU discourages working and students who have worked during the program have told me that it sucks. Potential funding - from what I can gather, neither program offers much by way of funding. Does anyone have a difference experience? Quality of program - I feel like L&C fits my goals really well but PSU is a good school. Does anyone have any insight into this? Congrats to everyone who's been accepted to school this cycle!
  3. Hi everyone! I'm getting started and planning ahead for the fall when I'll be applying to PSU's Counselor Education program, and I was wondering if anyone had any words of advice -- I applied to the PSU MSW program last year and wasn't accepted, which actually turned out to be fine because it made me reflect on exactly what program to pursue, and I've settled on an MFT Counselor track in the Graduate School of Education at PSU. That said, the application process last year was so stressful and it was obviously tough to be rejected, so I'm trying to come back much stronger this year. I have an undergraduate GPA of 3.4, and I have a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in sociology. I've volunteered in a domestic violence shelter for about a year (it will be 1.5 years by the time applications are due) doing direct-service work with participants, and have worked in administration at a couple of nonprofits for the last 6 years. I'm hoping to take the prerequisite 'Intro to Counseling' course at PSU this fall as a non-degree seeking student to get a little more face-time at the university and possibly make some connections there (the admissions advisor I spoke to said it was a good starting point). Does anyone have any wisdom to share? For the MSW program, the piece that I wasn't fully aware of was how much emphasis they put on direct social work experience, and I think that's why I wasn't accepted. I'm curious to know if there are any pieces like that in the GSE Counselor master's program that I should try and address now. Thanks!
  4. Hello!! I have not read much about anyone applying and/or being accepted to Portland State. I just got accepted on Friday, and will be attending in the Fall!! I am very excited. I am actually currently in an MSW program here in California, but I applied as a transfer student. Soo happy I got accepted. Is anyone else here going to attend PSU?
  5. Hi! I have just applied to a few programs and I'm just looking for some advice to see if I have a shot I guess. Also looking for any schools in Europe besides University College London that have what I'm looking for. A little background on me, I got my Bachelor of Science Interior Design at Drexel University in Philly with a minor in Art History. I graduated with a 3.3 GPA and a pretty solid portfolio (my strong suit is definitely my renderings). For the past 2 years I have been teaching at the Community College of Philadelphia as an adjunct professor teaching AutoCAD and Intro to Architecture, Design and Construction. I kind of fell into teaching but absolutely love it and love the flexibility and freedom it gives me to be creative in my spare time. Obviously with this, I need to get my masters to continue teaching at the collegiate level. My goal is to go into Exhibit and Installation design so I have applied to a variety of different programs involving this field. Mostly, I want to get more digital design knowledge (I currently am fluent in CAD, Revit, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, Laser Cutting and a little sketchup) but I want to learn more about 3D printing, CNC Routing which entails Rhino and 3DS Max. Mostly, I am curious if I have a shot at some of these reach schools of mine. But also if anyone has any insight into some more European Schools that have what I'm looking for it would be greatly appreciated. 1. UCLA - Design Media Arts 2. California College of the Arts - MArch (accelerated) 3. Portland State University - MArch (accelerated hopefully) 4. Pratt Institute - Digital Imaging MFA 5. UWash (Seattle) - MS Arch in Design Computing 6. UCL - MArch Design for Performance & Interaction ????? Thinking about: 1. Sandberg Institute (Amsterdam) - Studio for Immediate Spaces 2. University of Applied Science Europe (Berlin) - Media Spaces 3. London South Bank University - Digital Architecture and Robotics 4. Piet Zwart Institute (Rotterdam) - Interior Architecture THANKS FOR READING & HELPING!
  6. Hi all! I'm only applying to one PhD program so I am very nervous about getting admitted. Making it worse is that there is no information on here at all about my intended program. Is anyone else out there applying to the Earth, Environment, and Society PhD program at Portland State University?! Or has anyone previously applied or attended? Just looking for some people to commiserate with! Background stats for me: Undergrad: 3.0 GPA, UC Berkeley, Physics Masters: ~4.0 (no grades, written evaluations only), Evergreen State College, Environmental Science/Studies Experience: Tons of work experience in meteorologic data analysis for wind farms, coordinating educational programs, teaching college math/science, and working on science and sustainability with inmates in prisons. 1 conference paper, 1 conference presentation, 1 conference poster (AGU), 1 publication (chapter in book). Excellent letters of rec. GRE above average for PSU admits. Think I will get in? Cheers!
  7. Hey all, I'll be starting the 2-year MSW campus program at Portland Stat in fall. Just wanted to touch base with anyone else who's doing the same. I'm also finishing my undergrad right now at PSU, so if you're new to the school and have any questions I'd be happy to help if I can. Josh
  8. Hi! Has anyone heard from PDX Applied Social and Community? I tried searching through the Results Survey for some clue as to when I'd hear back, but there isn't a single thing. On the site it says March, but I'm getting anxious. Let me know please!!
