    UBC GRADS UNITE!

Hi all, I officially committed to UBC today for my PhD in Geography. As I'm an international student from the United States and won't have any close family or friends in the Vancouver area, it would be great to start building a network of ALL UBC Masters and PhD students. Comment here to connect and share what you'll be doing at UBC. This would also be a great place to share housing, neighborhood, activities and such. A bit about me: Married, have a dog, enjoy hiking and the outdoors, looking forward to Vancouver coffee culture. Cheers, C

    Recommend programs Canada 2019

Hi, I am a postgraduate in Molecular & Cellular Immunology from University of Aberdeen, Scotland (2009) and a graduate in Biotechnology from Bangalore University, INDIA. I have acouple of years of teaching experience in the related field and good amount of experience in customer service related jobs. What programs (masters)other than MPH could suit my profile to get some field related jobs in Canada. I am looking to apply for 2019 fall.
  3. Hi! I'm new to this forum but have a question about what my options might be for postgraduate studies in counseling psychology. Here's a bit of a background: I'll graduate in May 2019 from Penn State with bachelor's degrees in journalism and psychology with likely around a 3.7 GPA, and I've spent most of my undergraduate career stuck between those two degrees (essentially debating whether I wanted to go to graduate school for psychology or enter into a communications-related job right out of school). For that reason, most of the extracurricular activities/work experience I've had has been in the communications field (for ex., editor at my school's primary media outlet and a corporate communications internship this summer). But after different work experiences and lots of inner debate, I've decided that a degree in counseling psychology would be the most fulfilling career path for me. I wish I could have somehow come to this conclusion sooner, but I'm hoping my choice to have psychology as a second major left me with a few options. I've considered applying to either master's programs or PsyD programs, and I have also considered applying to programs abroad (I spent this past semester in the UK and would apply there). For now, I'm taking steps to prepare for the GRE, but I'm hoping to get some insight/suggestions (possibly from someone who's been in a similar position before where they weren't always sure they wanted to go to graduate school and might not have prepared the same as other psychology students). A potential path I've considered is getting research experience during the summer of 2019 and applying for graduate counseling certificate programs in the UK for the 2019/20 academic year, before applying to a master's or doctorate program. Any insight would help -- thanks!

    Oxford 2018 Postgrads

Hi guys I couldn't find a thread for Oxford applicants this year for postgrad so I thought I would make one (feel free to link the thread if there is one and i've missed it!!) What's everyone applying for?
  5. I applied to Cambridge University's MPhil program for Modern and Contemporary Literature. I have been unable to find information online regarding the MPhil interview process, though I am fairly certain that one does occur. Does anyone have any knowledge regarding this application process? Is there an interview, and if so, at what point (roughly) does the university reach out to request one?
  6. Hi everyone. I am a Chinese student. I failed in this year's Ph.D. application. However, I found there are several postgraduate associate positions in Yale. But I have very limitted information about those positions. So I wonder if someone applied for those positions before or is preparing for them now?

  8. Hi all, I'm an engineering student in Ireland and as the title of this thread suggests I am deciding between doing a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering ONLY or in a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering WITH business. I am unsure of what I want to a do moving forward in my career and I am unsure which will be better in the jobs market upon graduation. I do enjoy studying engineering but I do feel I could really benefit from studying business related subjects, to become more rounded and increase the number of roles I could work in moving forward. I have read the statistics about the amount of times people re-invent themselves in the workforce and I feel that the joint masters minoring in business may provide greater flexibility down the line if I decide that better opportunities are away from the very technical focused jobs . There is only 5 more mechanical engineering classes in the Mechanical Engineering only masters but I am unsure if this would put me in a disadvantage in applying for purely mechanical engineering roles later in my career from a perceived less complete engineering education. Would HR Departments read through my cv if I chose the masters in engineering with business and decide I am not as capable and as good a candidate when it comes to applying for purely engineering roles? Which program would you recommend? Both are delivered in a good school Thanks for taking the time to read this. I would love to hear your feedback.
  9. Hello, Is there anyone who knows about a master degree called Comparative and International Education at Oxford? I'm wondering what kind of interview questions there are. Not to mention the difficulty of the critical reflection... Moreover, I'm curious about the reputation and career after graduating. I'm getting info from the website but it would be good to know if there is some "live" experience sharers. Thanks
  10. Hello fellow students, I have a quick question for any postgraduate (preferablely a masters student) currently studying in one of the london universities. Is studying in London any good? I am super excited to apply for neuroscience at Kings and Imperial (and maybe UCL but its very expensive) but after sending my applications off, I now need to make a plan for if I actually end up going. Whats living in london like? Is it very expensive for postgrads to live in london? What were or are your financial plans for your studies? If you go to Kings or Imperial, what is it like to study there? Thanks for the help!

  12. I want to learn more about science and environment so that I can report on issues in these areas with more authority. I was a really good biology student in high school, but could not continue it. What programs can I consider now? I'm 26, and a fairly accomplished journalist with 5 years of experience covering pharmaceuticals and healthcare in India for an international news agency. Thanks in advance for any thoughts/ideas/suggestions.

    Postgraduate Loans UK

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone from the UK has any insight into the new postgraduate loans scheme. More specifically, are EU students eligible or not for such a loan? Everything I've been reading is quite contradictory (one source says yes, another one says no - unless you've been a resident of the UK for the last x years, which I'm not). Any info would be greatly appreciated
