  1. I keep seeing that California schools are notorious for taking their own students, specifically CSU's. I think the reason why is because they have SO MANY specific pre-requisites that it's nearly impossible for someone to be as 'well-matched' and competitive as their own students. I went to SDSU and have a BA in speech language hearing sciences but am not applying to SDSU. For this reason I am looking into taking some extra classes that I didn't: Aural Rehab, Clinical Methods, AAC/Autism, and Speech Sound Disorders. I have a decent GPA and decent GRE and great experience working/volunteer but I'm not sure if I'm still a strong enough candidate. I'm curious what your opinions are on this? Is it worth it to take all of the extra classes and spend time and money to "catch up" to other applicants?
  2. Hi y’all! I have recently made the decision to enter this field. My undergraduate degree is in biology/chemistry, so I need to take the prerequisite courses for slp programs. Were any of y’all in the same boat? Did you take these courses prior to applying to grad schools? If so, where/which programs did you find that allowed you to take just those few classes? Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  3. Hi all! I am planning to start a CSD Master's program this fall, but I am missing several prerequisites. I'd like to do at least a couple of them this summer -- whatever I don't finish, I'll take alongside my master's. Do any of you have recommendations of where I could take these courses online this summer? *If you've done these courses online before, please tell me how heavy of a workload it was and what the cost was! These are the courses I'm missing: Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Swallow Mechanisms Introduction to Audiology and Aural Rehab Language Development and Disorders in Children Speech Development and Disorders in Children Any info would be much appreciated!!
  4. Hi all, I just met with an advisor at a top 3 school who said that, when the "out of field" prereqs are taken online, the admissions committee will default to considering the in-person, brick-and-mortar classes instead. Does anyone know if this is the case at most schools, or just at this one? I've been out of school for 6 years now, and there's virtually no way I can take those 4 science prereqs in person, given my work schedule... but my previous degrees are in Music, so I really need to prove myself on the science front! So yeah, is the disregard for online science courses typical?! Thoughts? Thanks!! :-)
