I got invited to Michigan State's BMS interview weekend from the 10-12th of January and I'm looking forward to it, but they ask each interviewee to do an 8 minute presentation in front of current BMS faculty, grad students, and current applicants. Anyone have any tips for this? I already made my presentation and sent it in, but I just wanted to see if anyone had an idea of what the presentation is going to be like. Thanks!

What is the best way to present a total synthesis project? Should you begin with presenting the importance/bioactivity of the natural product or with the method that allows to obtain the scaffold? How do you ensure to convey that this research is important?

Hi all, I've been asked to make a short presentation (5-10 minutes) for one of my interviews and I'm not entirely sure what I should put in it. The presentation is supposed to contain a short introduction with some information about my previous research accompanied by some slides. Should I include short info on all the projects I have worked on, or simply focus on my master's thesis (currently working on it)? How much of a background should I put in about me (like where I'm from and where I currently am)? Should I include a short section of questions I am interested in exploring? My advisor mentioned that this can be both good an bad; it's good because it showcases how you think and that you are looking ahead in your career, and bad because the lab group/PoI may already have a basic plan of what they want out of their student and if this is too different from this plan, they might think twice before accepting you. Is there even a correct way to do this? I'd appreciate any help

Hello, I am not sure if I found the right place to answer some of my questions but here we go. I'm thinking of going back to school. Never studied on university level before so I'm a little nervous and not sure if I'm cut out for it. I really want to work within the field of psychology, more precisely counseling (individuals, couples, families) as far as I know... this might however change after I acquainted myself better with other areas of psychology. Anyway I need to calm my nerves some so I'm very curious about the practical aspect of studying psychology (bach>masters) on university level. What's the curriculum look like, deadlines, how are the tests and presentations designed (written, oral, reports?) and generally how hard are the courses? I know the latter is subjective and altough I appreciate any input, I'm mostly interested in the practical aspect and what it's like. Literally no detail irrelevant or too small. If it's of any relevance I'm planning on attending an university in Oregon, probably Portland. Btw I don't live in the States and I'm not american, I'm thinking of taking the route via community college as international student and then transferring to an university. Thanks
