  1. Hello, I'm am seeking a sharp, artsy, philosophically sophisticated, writting oriented person to help push a manuscript to potential. The project is a one act play dealing with lacanian psychoanalysis and continental philosophy. Any interest? It could be a paid position (I can afford $50 an hour for the right person) Thank you in advance! Moss
  2. Hello lovely people, Anyone know of English literature scholars or programs interested in avant-garde and radical drama? Anything from Artaud, Beckett, and Brecht to more contemporary playwrights like Joan Brossa and Susan-Lori Parks. I am most interested in finding a program with a strong emphasis on theory (especially psychoanalysis and contemporary Marxism). The programs currently on my list include Boston University, Washington University in St. Louis, Pennsylvania State, Columbia University, Rutgers, University of Illinois at Chicago, Purdue, University of Pittsburgh, and Northwestern. If you have any schools you'd suggest adding or removing, I'd love to hear your input. ❤️
  3. Hi everyone! Do you know any good graduate programmes (either US, Canada and Europe) in cultural studies/anthropology/etc. with a strong focus on (or supportive to) psychoanalysis? Or any psychoanalytic graduate programme which doesn't require previous major in psychology? I've heard about exclusively psychoanalytic programmes in UCL, Birkbeck and Essex, but I wish I had a wider choice. Thanks in advance! P.S. btw, my work lies in the field of psychoanalytical criticism of video games and digital culture as whole. So, I guess programmes in comparative literature (which could often be psychoanalysis-friendly) would not be a good suggestion.
  4. Hej! I'm an Australian student looking to study in the US, specifically around NYC (where my gf currently lives). I have an undergrad in philosophy at USYD and a Masters by Research in English at the University of New South Wales. My project was on the relationship between Hegel and Kierkegaard's respective modes of representation and the "ancient quarrel between philosophy and poetry." It centred on questions of the exception and repetition, taking 1843's Gjentagelse as its primary focus. Along the road I've picked up a lot of interests and areas of study. I've written conference papers on Badiou, Media, Hegel, Benjamin. I've also worked on psychoanalysis, Marxism, communist history and deconstruction. Broadly speaking, my overall project is concerned with the construction of universals across the gulf of difference, and the way that language/analysis might accommodate this. Because of this pick-and-mix I've been looking at places like the New School, but won't be able to support myself without funding so that seems to cast doubt. I've also heard that people have reservations about UPenn At the moment I'm looking at 1. Media at Brown with Joan Copjec 2. Philosophy at Columbia with Honneth or maybe Lydia Goehr 3. Philosophy at CUNY, not sure who with 4. English at NYU, not sure who with 5. Religion at Princeton with Eric Gregory I've done the GRE and got V-170, AW- 5.5 and Q- 149 (lol). Does anyone have recommendations on other programs that might accommodate a project as confused and baroque as this? Cheers!
  5. I have central interest in psychoanalysis. I have offer from Birkbeck - psychosocial studies and UCL - Theoretical Psychoanalysis. I do not have yet scholarship from any one of them and so my admission depends on loan. I will have to keep that in mind, UCL is more expensive than Birkbeck. I am interested in both the programme. As Birkbeck allows me to extend psychoanalysis to culture and society, while UCL looks at psychoanalysis theoretically. I will be engaging with themes of mental health and schizophrenia. Also, not sure which course has better chance of leading up a job to pay off loan? Later on, I wish to pursue Phd. I see my career as academician and therapist.
  6. Hi, everyone. I know its a little late in the game, but I am still struggling to figure out if my research interests are too narrow for a PhD program. I would really like to do something that combines literature and psychoanalysis; maybe an in-depth textual exploration of specific psychoanalytic concepts across different literary periods. My MA dissertation focuses on a similar thing, but in the realm of poetry, and at a much smaller scale. Looking at the faculty of different universities, I believe that SUNY, Duke, UC Davis and a few others will be the best fit for me. However, I read somewhere that admission committees prefer candidates with more traditional research interests. Is this true? If not, does anyone have any suggestions regarding mid-tier PhD programs with a focus on psychoanalysis? I could really use some help, especially since I am international student (from India).
  7. I have applied at various university in UK such as UCL and Birbeck for Masters taught program in psychoanalysis. I am awaiting results. meanwhile, I wish to apply at similar programs in US or other part of world. It could be US, Australia, anywhere. Could anyone suggest some good universities so that I could explore and research and apply? I love psychoanalysis, and either I desire to be psychotherapist or academician with focus on research.
