  1. Hi all, Does anyone have a successful Horowitz Foundation grant application that they would be willing to share? The word limit is killing me.
  2. Hey guys. I really need your help with my choice towards MPP programs. I have admitted by Harris MPP program and Ford MPP program. My interest is in social policy and poverty. Harris(#3, #4) and Ford(#1, #1)'s rankings are similar in public policy and social policy. Thus it is really a tough choice for me to make. UChicago has a better ranking on the best universities list and Chicago is the third biggest city in the USA which probably means more collaborations with private sectors and non-profit organizations. However, Harris seems to release too many offers this year, at least 200,
  3. HI all, I earned my master's in applied sociology a few years ago from BC. I'm currently thinking about returning to school for a PhD in Sociology with a focus on social welfare, poverty/homelessness, immigration and nationalism, race/class (SES/mobility), political sociology, and mixed methods. I've been working in research for about 6-8 years (in policy think tanks, program eval, and private industry). Any suggestions on sociology programs outside of the top 10 who are accepting of students with aspirations other than the ivory tower?? Thank you in advance!
  4. Hi All, Having checked out the previous years' blogs there isn't a lot of information or grad-cafe people who have indicated they applied for this programme. I have applied this year and so would love to kick-start a thread with whoever else has. I get the impression that due to its interdisciplinary nature this programme is applied to by people across several different disciplines so I figured it would be better to post here than under the subject threads. My background: Undergraduate degree in English and a MA in Comparative Education (both degrees are from universities at the top
  5. So here it goes. I am an American student who has been accepted into LSE and Edinburgh for MSc programs (Social Policy and Planning at LSE and Comparative Public Policy at Edinburgh). I am having a difficult time deciding between the two for a couple of reasons. LSE is more prestigious, I know this and I understand how important of a factor it is in future job prospects. I have heard however that the student experience is pretty low; students don’t get much time with professors/facilities are over crowded/good job training not great education. On the other hand I have heard that Edinburgh is l
  6. Hi guys, I am an international student from Nepal and came to this website after another friend applying to grad schools highly recommended it. Nothing relevant to me was showing up when I was searching for Urban Planning in this forum so I figured I would write this post. Here's my problem, I really need to find 2 safety schools and I was hoping I could get some recommendations. I know it sounds vague but since MURP doesn't have rankings for schools I really can't tell where I'm competitive. Here's my Bio: Interest: Community Development, Social Policy, International Development
  7. Hi! I have a GPA of around 2-2.5. in equally bad in both undergrad (commerce, business, accounting) and Masters (Economics). I have a decent GRE score of above 1400, quant - 720-800 and verbal 700-800. Final score will be available in mid-november. I am interested in pursuing a PhD in communication. Something like the program at UC San Diego seems very suitable to my interests, but I might be aiming too high. Can anyone kindly suggest point to me the kind of universities that I should target? I will need full funding... Any advice will be highly appreciated.
