  1. Hello, I wanted to see what schools people recommend for graduate program in speech language pathology that look at more than just GPA and GRE. MY GPA is not competitive. My GRE scores are very low. I may retake them. I have a lot of experience. This round I applied to: NAU- summers program NOVA Chapman University Idaho State University Eastern New Mexico University .

    Advice on jobs

I'm currently working as a direct staff support for a home of adults that have intellectual disabilities. I thought I was going to be working a lot on communication with them but that part is pretty much 25% of it. The rest I am basically a caregiver-- cleaning the house, cooking, helping them with personal management, hygiene, etc. I'm looking into other jobs. I got an interview for an assistant to a teacher at a preschool but I'm not sure if that will better my chances at getting into grad school. I'm kinda having second thoughts about quitting the job search and sticking with the one I have but I'm not entirely sure. Anybody have any advice?
  3. Just wondering what the process is like to get licensed in a state that is different from the state you're attending graduate school in? Is this a difficult and pricey process? Also, can you do your CFY in a state that you did not attend grad school in?
  4. Anyone else bored and ready to start grad school. I'm literally counting down the days!
  5. I'm currently working as a direct staff support for a home of adults that have intellectual disabilities. I thought a majority of the job was going to be on communication with them but that consist of 25%-30% of the job. The rest I am basically a caregiver--cleaning the house, cooking, helping them with personal management, hygiene, etc. I'm looking into other jobs. I got an interview for an assistant to a teacher at a preschool but I'm not sure if that will better my chances of getting into grad school. I'm having second thoughts about the job search and just sticking with the job I have. I have a second job and between that and this other job, I don't have time to shadow SLPs. When I asked what I needed to improve on, the admissions said my GRE could use some work. I'm studying for the GRE but I feel that that is not enough and I don't want to waste my time with this job and not doing something else. Any advice would be great!
  6. Hello. I will be starting grad school in august and I don't really know what to expect. Everyone is always talking about how stressful and hard it is, but never explain how and why. Is it that much different than undergrad? Are the classes harder than they were in undergrad or is it just time constraints with clinic? Thank you!
  7. What are your responsibilities as a graduate teaching assistant?
  8. Hi! I have read that some Louisiana schools gave preference to Louisiana residents. Does anyone know which schools they know for sure that does?
  9. Hi, I am currently a Biochem major, my GPA is below a 3.0 due to a messy third year due to lack of ambition, and terrible study habits I made stupid choices in my third year which I completely regret. I am going to my fifth year now, I have done a lot of research on what I want to do, and have bettered my study habits a lot. I really want to pursue a master's in SLP and its something I gave a lot of thought. I plan on graduating after my fifth year and then coming back and boosting my GPA and then applying. I know that grad schools in Canada are really competitive, but this is something I really want to do Could someone give me some advice, or did anyone have a similar experience? I want to hopefully boost my GPA and then apply but I feel a little uncertain, are my chances of getting in really slim? I know I said Canada in the title but information about SLP in America is also appreciated! (I'm doing my own research but still would like to hear from everyone) I am doing my thesis soon and continue volunteering at my local hospital. For speech pathologist (or even audiology, since I'm interested in finding out) what kind of letter of recommendation do you guys get? Would an LOR from a Biochem or bio prof be irrelevant in this field? Any advice is really appreciated, please please help me!!
