Hi everyone, So I am evaluating Macro programs. I am a current BSW student at UIUC, which has an advanced standing Leadership and Social Change Program. From what I understand, UIUC has a good program, I like the setting and instructors. My main hesitation is that the Macro program is much smaller, and I am concerned about the amount of field placement for Macro that might be interesting to me. I am also looking at UChicago. UChicago is much more expensive, but I feel like the city of Chicago is a great place to get set up for Macro work, The SSA is ranked #3 nationally in Social Work, and I think that the field placement opportunities would be much more in line with my career goals and I think UChicago would allow me a better opportunity to network with people. UChicago also has some dual law classes that I think would help with my interest in the intersection of social work and law, but not require the intensity of a dual MSW/JD program. I used to live in Chicago and love the city, as well. One of my main hesitations is the degree is an AM rather than MSW, and I worry a little about how this is perceived. Both of these programs would take about a year with advanced standing. I'm also thinking about Boston and Columbia, but they don't really make me super excited. Can anyone share experiences with these programs, and offer some wisdom?

Is anyone making the decision between these two schools? I have not visited either and would appreciate any thoughts or input!

hi, i am deciding between uc berkeley and university of chicago for my MSW. i am interested in macro-level social work and organizational leadership, specifically at youth-serving non-profits and gov't agencies. I'm especially interested in positive youth development, management and planning, and issues/intersections of race, ethnicity, poverty and inequality. i like to work hard and study complex issues in my classes. I would like to practice social work in the Bay Area after graduation, but SSA seems like the best academic fit. Do you agree? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you.

I was recently talking to a graduate from the SSA program at the University of Chicago, and she was highly critical of the program. In summary, she thought that the non-clinical classes were ineffective and that the school in general barley addressed systemic racism and created a culture of social workers with a white savior complex. I was wondering if other's have opinions on the program?

Did anyone else receive an email from SSA saying that decisions are delayed even though they were supposed to come out today. Does this mean that I'm not getting in? Has anyone gotten their answer today?

Didn't see one of these yet for this cycle. Anyone else Apply by December 1st? I'm starting to get extra nervous. I have a pretty high GPA but am coming from the Humanities with a background in community organizing/activism. Shooting for clinical, to boot.

Hi Everyone! I will be graduating with my BSW and CADC in May. I'm super excited about moving forward because I will be volunteering two years in Africa with the Peace Corps! It's honestly my dream come true. However for some odd reason I'm still stressing about grad school admissions. I recently was accepted conditionally into the MSW/MA in women studies and gender studies at Loyola University. Now I'm just waiting to hear back from the University Of Chicago SSA. I plan to weigh my options and defer my admission (if I am able). I guess my question is has anyone heard from U of C that applied by the 1/15 deadline? Also U of C is my first choice but the MSW/MA program at Loyola sounds really interesting and I've already had faculty reach out to me. I'm happy to have this dilemma but it's also very much stressing me out. Any thoughts, opinions or personal experiences with either program would be very helpful! sn: I applied to UIC but.... I'm not all that set on going there. Plus they take forever to get back to you. Thanks! AW Applied: Loyola 1/23, University of Chicago SSA 1/13, UIC 1/15 Accepted: Loyola 2/25
