  1. Hey everyone! As the title kinda suggests, I'm waiting to hear back on my MI application for UofT. Just wanted to see if anyone else is on the same boat!
  2. Found the other thread from 2018 related to the University of Toronto's iSchool programs very helpful, so thought I would start a thread for this upcoming year. Anyone else apply for the ischool programs for next year? Have you applied to other schools ? I applied to the Master of Information program for fall, and got an acceptance letter in mid January. I submitted my application in early November. I have also applied to the Communication and Culture at Ryerson, but haven't heard back anything from Ryerson yet. The MI program is my preferred program between the two, but I am only worry about the iSchool program is the cost compared to the program at Ryerson.
  3. I've seen some posts on this forum about MA decisions (which are most certainly welcome here as well) but none for PhD and very little about the current year. Has anyone heard back yet?
  4. Hello, I was wondering if anyone has heard back from U of T for the Med counselling Pscyhology program?? Its Mid-March and i have heard nothing! Any information would be appreciated.
  5. Hello everyone, I have a rather unusual question... hoping you can give some advice from your end. I have applied for my MA in History at U of T for fall 2018. Applications actually just closed less than a week ago Jan 7th, 2018. What do you think the chances are of me getting in giving that I graduated from my undergraduate studies at U of T in 2005 ( joining specialist History and Political Science) so its been 12 years since I have been in school. The past 10 years I have been working as a Communications professional - point being no links with academia and research etc since 2005. My GPA is pretty damn low. 2.7 CGPA. ( U of T expects a 3.3 to get into the program) Though my history GPA is 3.1 I went and spoke to the Admissions Committee who said to go ahead and give it a shot but to try again for next year as well. ( not very encouraging but honest at least) My area of interest is South Asian History for which the Munk Centre offers a collaborative studies program. The point in brining this up is, it is a fairly new department within U of T and I think they are eager to engage students in this discipline. So first question : Simply looking at these facts above what do you think are my chances of getting in ? Has anyone had a similar background and working with the premise that you put together a really robust thesis/research question, were you able to gain acceptance ? Or do you know if anyone who who has ? Now my second question. My husband has just been offered a job in Europe and we need to make a decision soon. If i got into the Masters program we would stay in Toronto but acceptances do not come in until March and we need to make a decision on the job by the beginning of Feb. Do you think it would harm me if I asked them to review my application early due to this potential move explaining to the Admissions Committee that I would actually ask my husband to refuse the job based on my application decision but I just need to know by Feb rather than mid March ? I realize these are really random questions and a lot is based on speculation. I have just been out of the academic circle for so long that any advice, ideas or ways of looking at this situation would be really helpful.
  6. I'll be applying to it in January 2018. I have a psychology and neuroscience background. I don't know what exactly they look for in applicants. I'm mostly interested in how much they care about extra-curriculars and which, and volunteer/work experience they look for. Thanks!
  7. Hi everybody I am applying to both Munk School of Global Affairs (U of T) and NPSIA (Carelton). I am also applying to GPSIA (U of Ottawa)...but i would say that it is my third option behind these two schools. I had a question regarding what criteria should I use to determine which program is a better overall program and why I may attend one over the other. I've already considered factors such as - My own research interest (Intelligence, Global Security) - Faculty Research (For me, Carelton wins this one) - Location - Concentrations/field designations - Tuition (20k v. 8k tuition + living expenses), - Reputation (both are stellar schools) I remain unclear on the following: - employment prospects (employment percentages) - global reputation - opportunities throughout the graduate year - co-op/internships etc. If anybody could help me out, that'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  8. I am thinking of applying to the university of Toronto's MSc Biostatistics program for fall 2017. However, I am from the u.s. and have read that applying to u of t for masters is similar to applying for a Phd here so I don't want to get my hopes up. If any others with experience on this could please help me get a better idea of my chance of acceptance. I'm currently majoring in statistics, my overall GPA is 3.4, major GPA is 3.5. I noticed they look at last 5 senior level courses though, which depending on fall course grades I believe could range from a 3.5-3.8 GPA. I also will have completed a thesis as an undergrad through a honors in the major program and will have a year of experience as a clinical data analyst by the time I apply. I have noticed two people have already been rejected from this program, and that international acceptance is very limited. So do you think my chance of acceptance is low(probably?), moderate(possibly?), or high(lol)? and should I turn my focus to Biostatistics programs elsewhere?
  9. Hello, Any other applicant(s) to the U of T MPP programme for fall 2016. I'm an international applicant, my status now shows 'under review'. Anyone know when they start making offers? I also applied to Carleton's MPPA and UBC's MPPGA.
