Background: International student with a background in engineering and economics. I have a PhD offer from the University of Michigan's School of Information. The program looks good with a lot of interdisciplinary research. But, the Econ side of things doesn't seem to be as prominent as CS, HCI or stats within the department. On the other hand, I have PhD offers in Econ from UC-Davis, Ohio State, Iowa State and Arizona State. These are good econ program but don't have the prestige or the name recognition of UMich. After my PhD, I am equally open to an academic job or a research role i

Trying to choose between two very different programs
topaz998 posted a topic in Decisions, Decisions
I was just accepted into my first choice, UC Davis! I had been waitlisted and I just got the notification today. I'm pursuing a degree in art history and UC Davis is also my undergrad school. I am now feeling a bit confused as to where to attend. When I was waitlisted, I quickly applied to other schools and I was also offered a place in Claremont Graduate School's program for a degree in Arts Management. It's super hard to compare the two programs. Davis focuses mainly on research and also offers TA positions, while CGU is more focused on getting professional experience. Its location is a -
Hi guys! Anyone have any insight or comments about the UC Davis Master's program? Trying to decide between it (funded) and a non-funded program with much more name recognition. Mainly doing a Masters to gain experience while I decide if I want to push for a PhD, or turn toward museum education. I study ancient art if that helps, but I'd love to hear any info you might have!

Hi Everyone, I'm not sure if anyone else is applying for this program. We don't have much of a presence on the results page over the past 8 years so I was just curious to know if anyone else had applied this season? I haven't heard a peep from Davis, but two rejections supposedly happened in early Feb. Also, compared to previous years it appears that decisions are coming out later than usual? Hopefully, decisions haven't gone out yet, but I guess it's possible that they forgot to reject me. D:

Cross posting it from the Computer Science thread: I've got admits from University of Colorado, Boulder and University of California, Davis, both for MS CS programs. I'm interested in machine learning (and NLP, recently) and I'll probably not be pursuing a PhD after MS. From what I've found, UCD is somewhat cheaper overall and has marginally better ranking in ML but is pretty poor NLP wise whereas CU Boulder is great in NLP. Research interests line up in both schools. No funding in either, and as far as I'm aware, job opportunities are somewhat better in California than Colorado becaus

My main issue is whether a degree

Hi all, I've been having a hell of a time choosing which school to attend for my PhD in geology this fall. I have full funding at both schools. My dilemma is that I like the advisor and my would-be lab mates at UC Davis more than at UCSB, but I like the research more at UCSB than at UC Davis. Also I think the quality of life is just higher in Santa Barbara. Does any one have any advice? Thanks!

Hey guys, Just posting on here as I'm super nervous and not sure as to what to do. So I applied for PhD in MatSci and am trying to decide between UC Davis, UCLA and UCSD. Now I really like the UCSD research as they have a lot of faculty working with physics related stuff (I have a BS in physics) but I don't have gauranteed funding. One of my POI's at UCSD says he can't guarantee me anything between when I messaged him and April 15 so I can't base my decision on him, and others say they don't have funding for a GSR this year and they'd take me next year Similar situation for UCLA, on

Yesterday I received the decision of UC Davis, I was admitted in PhD Program in CS. Yeah I was crazy at the moment, but in the second look I found there's nothing about funding information except this: The graduate adviser or program staff member in your graduate program will be happy to discuss the program, course enrollment, and faculty interests at UC Davis. The graduate program is also your point of contact concerning any financial support that you will be offered or for which you have applied. Information on enrollment and fee payment will be sent at a later date. Please continue

Have anyone heard from UC Davis regarding admission decisions for Masters in Statistics ?
-
Hi all- If you were accepted into UC Davis by your department, have you gotten the official paperwork from the grad admissions office yet? I've been accepted and offered funding by my department but don't have stuff from admissions, and the website still doesn't show everything. Thanks

I was just wondering if anyone is applying to these programs for the Fall 2012 and how your applications are going. It would be nice to talk to people in the same boat and maybe compare notes. (This also applies to grad students currently in these programs.)

When I talk about academic plans and research interests, do I go for a very narrow scope (i have research experience and have an idea of what i would do for my research project in my MS program), or should I talk about a broad set of research interests? I know that what you propose on your application doesn't have influence on what you end up actually doing in grad school, but should I show the committee I do have a specific idea about it and show that I have given what I would want my project to be a lot of thought? or that I am flexible and open to doing a broad range of research within a ce
