  1. Hi! I am wondering how much weight do y'all put into the PhD stipend and location while making a decision. I am confused between offers from UConn (polymer science) and UBuffalo (biomedical engineering). UConn's offering 9k more than UB for first year, 10k more for subsequent years. Personally I won't care about stipends so much, but 10k is quite a lot of extra money for grad students. But then again I will be thrown away in the remotest of of villages in UConn while with Buffalo, I will be living in a major city. I have lived in major cities all my life and moving to a place like UConn scares me a bit. As far as department and my research fit are concerned, I believe I have a better fit with Buffalo biomed. But then it is a seriously low ranked program while UConn's polymer program is one of the well known polymer programs. I feel like choosing Buffalo would really make me question my career decisions (due to the low repute), but then choosing UConn would basically kill my personal/social life and I might not feel as much at home as Buffalo. It's all so confusing right now, I wish I got an admit from my top choice right now so that all of this confusion becomes irrelevant. Anyway, I would really appreciate inputs on these topics from you guys.
  2. The department's website says acceptance processed by April 1 st. Anyone heard anything from UConn? Do they usually delay reposes? Thanks
  3. Hi Everyone, I just found out I was accepted to uconn today for their masters in speech-language pathology! I was wondering if anyone has any up to date info on the current cost of tuition for out of state students, and who is eligible to be considered a "new england regional student?" I've been trying to find info on the website all day, but it is very difficult! thanks for your help
  4. Uconn Health Center Biomedical PhD

Is there anyone that had an interview at Uconn's health center for their biomedical sciences PhD program, and NOT heard back yet? I know they sent out some acceptances and rejections, but I have not heard anything.
  5. UConn SSW Fall 2017

Anyone else applying? My application is almost ready- just a few more questions to fill out for the personal statement and I'm done! The waiting game anticipation is already starting to consume me... ah!
  6. Hello guys, I need some guidance as I will be applying for Phd programs for 2017 with cool projects but low GPA and no publications. I designed robots, worked on projects for many years. I even started to build things when I was in high school. During my undergraduate, I involved with research, worked as a research assistant at biomedical lab for two years. Then, I did a research internship at one of the finest universities in Turkey about a year. Now, I am pursuing a masters degree on mechatronics and simultaneously working as an r&d engineer at a small startup firm designing robots for handicapped people. I am able to get at least one stellar reference letter from my professors who know me and my projects. I don’t have any publication but I have almost 2 years of research experience. I have a crappy undergrad GPA, 2.70, with no good reason; and my masters GPA is 3.21. I have worked full time while pursuing masters, thats the explanation of 3.21. My GRE score will probably get around 320 - and my TOEFL score will be in 99-105 range) Do you think I have shot at these universities: Worcester Polytechnic Institute Oregon State University San Diego State University (has joint doctoral programs with UCSD - I have no idea how hard is it to get admitted) University of Connecticut These universities have awesome research topics that I want to work on them. I might be able to add 2 or more universities to my list.
  7. I got admitted into those three statistics master program. But it's hard for me to make a decision between those three schools. I am more interested in go to industry instead of Ph.D. after graduated GWU stat program gave me $5000, but the living cost in DC is pretty high. And the program has more than 100 ms students this year, soooo many people. Umass stat program is under math&stat department, it is a small program, only have around 15 students each year. And I heard from students there, most of ms students can get TA or RA, so it means I won't pay lots of tuition. But I am not familiar with the job market in that state. If you know could you give me some information? Uconn, actually this is my least option. most of the professors are biostat, which I am not interested in. and they don't have fellowship or TA to ms students. If you know something about those three schools or states, please give some advice or information, so I can make decision. Thank you so much
  8. Hi all! I'm deciding among a few acceptances for a PhD in School Psychology. My interests are in diversity/cross-cultural issues in school psychology. I hope to begin my career working in public high schools, but may eventually pursue private practice or research. I am deciding between Fordham, University of Maryland, University of Rhode Island, and University of Connecticut. Does anyone know anything (good/bad) about these programs? Research fit is great for all of them. Thank you!
  9. Hey--has anyone heard anything back from UConn Ph.D. in EEB yet? I see one rejection in February, but nothing recent.
