I got an offer from the Uni of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Ph.D in Educational Research. It comes with an assistantship funding. Tuition fully waived plus monthly stipend. Received offers from Ivy League schools as well (but ! they are so expensive!). Alabama is the most generous one. The assistantship is very tempting. I haven't decided yet. Is there anyone in the same shoes? Has anyone accepted the offer from Alabama? Maybe we could have a chat or something. Thanks.

Hi. I am an international student and just got accepted by PhD program in Biological Sciences at Purdue University and PhD program in Immunology at University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB). They are really great program and both programs have the faculty who I would like to work with. I've never been to West Lafayette nor the Alabama. It would be really great if someone studying or living there could tell me more about the living quality (public transportation, dorms, house rent, etc), funding and working opportunities, school supportive system, research intensity or the general reputation of both schools? Any thoughts or ideas are welcome! Please leave any comment you can think of and help me decide=) Thanks!

If anyone going to the University of Alabama for library science sees this, would you like to join a facebook group? Over 4,000 people have seen my previous post but only 3 other people attending Alabama have responded. I will be in the on campus cohort and would love to start a group.

Hi All, I'm from California, fairly liberal, openly queer, car-less, and just applied to schools all over the country for my MFA in creative writing, including Sarah Lawrence, Rutgers, University of Alabama, Iowa Writers' Workshop, Virginia Tech, University of Houston, and University of Texas. I'm wondering if these cities/colleges are accepting? And is there a queer scene at all, either at the college or in the city? Further, I don't have a car, and I've never traveled to any of these places. Are there other means to get around? Could I bike, take the bus, walk? Or is everything spread out? Thank you! Also, if anyone has any favorite spots in any of these areas, feel free to share.
